Every year after going for a human dock, I look forward to eating a set meal at this Sakana Chikara restaurant. Before coming here, I had never eaten grilled fish at a restaurant. The first time I came, I had the half portions of grilled salmon belly and grilled horse mackerel with miso, and it was surprisingly delicious. Thanks to that, I went through a phase where I was obsessed with salmon belly and even bought it to grill at home. The oil from the salmon belly was so intense that I almost set off the fire alarm at home once (laughs). Now, this year...the human dock was busy and I ended up finishing an hour later than usual. I quickly wrapped up my consultation with the doctor and headed to Sakana Chikara, almost missing their lunchtime. They only had three half portion menu options left. I couldn't miss out on the grilled salmon belly with salt. I chose the set meal with grilled salmon belly with salt and grilled black cod with miso (1400 yen). 1400 yen...fish prices seem to be going up every year. I took the plastic menu board and went upstairs, which was a first for me. There was a number written on the back of the plastic board, and if it was a winning number, you would get one small side dish for free. Last year was a miss. The year before was a win. And this year...it was a win! "Choose one side dish you like!" they said, so I tried to pick the shredded dried baby sardines with grated radish, but they had run out for the day. So I ended up with seaweed vinegar (laughs). A few minutes later, the dishes arrived. (It's amazing how fast the dishes come out in this restaurant, even though they serve grilled fish.) But what arrived was not the potato salad I ordered, but seaweed vinegar (laughs). "Hey, I ordered potato salad, didn't I?" I thought, but the seaweed vinegar was delicious too, so I let it slide. The grilled black cod with miso was something I tried for the first time in my life. It was delicious too. Every year, I come here and learn about delicious fish dishes from Sakana Chikara. However, I'm not a fan of simmered fish, so I haven't tried their famous mackerel simmered in miso yet. Next year, I'll definitely try the mackerel simmered in miso. I'm already looking forward to next year's human dock. (My priorities are completely skewed, haha) Thank you for always serving delicious fish. Thank you for the meal.
