As I was walking down Horikawa Street, I stumbled upon a cozy café that is not too far from Sanjo. It is run by an elderly couple, but there are two other staff members as well. The coffee, sandwiches, and quality are all top-notch, and the prices are very reasonable. It would be nice if they could wipe down the tables as a COVID-19 precaution, but overall, it is a great place to visit!

Located about a 10-minute walk north of Horikawa Street from Hankyu Omiya Station, on the southeast corner. It was my first visit in a while, but the depth of flavor in the siphon coffee was just as good as before. The only downside was that it is now non-smoking.

The masterful art of skillfully exchanging stories with elderly customers, creating a peaceful and gentle atmosphere. The staff sits next to the customers, getting closer and encouraging them to stay longer with clear and whispered words. The hospitality that does not ignore regulars or new customers is perhaps the secret to running a long-standing establishment. I hope they continue for a long time, as it was a cafe spot where people gather.

A cafe located a 7-8 minute walk from Nijo Castle. The atmosphere inside is very calming, with regular customers relaxing. I was brought here by a regular of this cafe. The couple who run the cafe and another lady manage the place. We ordered the half sandwich set for breakfast, with egg and coffee. The wife handled the cooking very efficiently, while the husband brewed the coffee. The egg sandwich that arrived looked fluffy, with thick scrambled eggs sandwiched between soft bread and thinly sliced cucumber on one side. It tasted as good as it looked, with the eggs being fluffy and gently seasoned. There were 4 slices of sandwich, which was a pleasant surprise. The coffee was rich and delicious. All of this for only 500 yen as a set, which was surprising. The service from the lady in the dining area was also very kind - she noticed the medication my companion had and even brought a glass of water without ice. Overall, the atmosphere was great, and the staff were all very pleasant.

On Sundays and holidays, many nearby cozy cafes are often closed, so it's valuable when one like this is open. It may have a slightly old-fashioned and rustic feel, but that just adds to the relaxed atmosphere. Since it's hot today, I'll skip the hot coffee and go for the iced coffee at ¥430. The shop is run by an elderly lady (at the time of visit) and everything is at a leisurely pace. The iced coffee I ordered wasn't anything special, as I was asked if I wanted it with syrup or without, so maybe they have them pre-made. However, since I visited to pass the time, I didn't expect much. Overall, it was a nice place to unwind. Thank you for the meal.

Today's shop is the nearby coffee shop "Bogota" as requested by Dar. It's located on Horikawa Street, and sometimes when I pass by the street next to the shop, I see a few regular customers gathering and chatting happily. The interior has a classic feel with coffee as the specialty, and classical music playing in the background. When I entered, there was only one customer, so it had a quiet morning atmosphere with the scent of coffee lingering in the air. The shop is run by an elderly couple, and the master is dressed smartly in a black tie and cardigan, while the wife is a lovely lady. The shop also has a second floor, but they seem to not use it much recently. There were three types of morning sets available. Set A for 630 yen includes fried egg, potato salad, and toast with strawberry jam. The wife quickly and skillfully prepared everything except the coffee. I chose the Half Sandwich Set for 500 yen, where I could choose between vegetables or eggs, and I chose vegetables. The sandwich had potato salad and cucumber, and being a half portion, it was just right for a light morning meal. The coffee was around 300 yen, which was quite affordable, and I noticed they had various sandwich options, with the hamburger sandwich catching my eye. As expected, the conversations with the regular customers in the morning always include topics like reading the newspaper and discussing pro baseball. It was a relaxing morning spent at the shop. Address: 240 Tsuboya-cho, Rokkaku-sagaru, Higashi Horikawa-dori, Nakagyo-ku, Kyoto. Phone: 075-256-2354. Opening hours: 7:00~
