On June 6, 2015, I stayed at El Inn Kyoto for one night. The location is about a 3-minute walk from Kyoto Station Hachijo Exit, near Avanti. I opted for the breakfast buffet plan and used it on the morning of the 7th. Even non-guests can enjoy a Kyoto-style breakfast buffet near Kyoto Station for 1000 yen at a restaurant called Mai. The restaurant offers 90 minutes of free parking for meal customers. The breakfast buffet included items such as watercress, simmered chicken and vegetables, grilled fish, burdock and carrot kinpira, pickles, tofu, cold udon, salad, fried potatoes, spaghetti, mini hamburgers, egg dishes, fried chicken, white rice, bamboo shoot rice, miso soup, and more. The bamboo shoot rice used pre-packaged ingredients. There were also items that seemed to be frozen foods. The 1000 yen price is cheap, but for those looking forward to Kyoto-style obanzai cuisine, it may be disappointing. While there were Kyoto-style obanzai dishes, they were mixed in with items like mini hamburgers and spaghetti in the same section. I thought it would be better to separate them. I was also disappointed that there were only carbonated drinks at the drink bar instead of fresh juice. Additionally, in terms of service, the staff did not bring refills unless you asked when the dishes ran out. I had to request a refill of bamboo shoot rice, which took some time. For those with train schedules to catch, I found this lacking in terms of service. I hope they can improve their service.
