Mrs. Kami and I went on a leisurely sightseeing trip in Kyoto on the first day. In my early thirties, I used to visit Kyoto about 40 times a year for work, mainly for meetings and the Gion area. I have only done typical Kyoto sightseeing activities 2 or 3 times, so I am practically a complete beginner. Mrs. Kami suggested that we should visit Fushimi Inari Taisha. Why? It's famous for bringing good luck in business... I didn't even know that, I am truly ignorant and a beginner. ^^; Upon arriving in Kyoto, we left our suitcases at the hotel and went straight to Fushimi Inari Taisha to pray for the success and prosperity of our company and for everyone to stay healthy and well. Mrs. Kami urged me that saying "I hope it doesn't go bankrupt" was unnecessary. ^^; Well, the sparrow was sold out. Quail... The female staff said, "You can eat everything from head to toe." Really? Seriously? With much hesitation, I started from the head... It was painful when the beak stuck in, ^^; From the skull to the brain? It was gooey and sweet... Oh no // I can't do it... I desperately chewed and swallowed it... I can't eat the bones, they might get stuck in my throat. There is a little bit of meat, but I gave up due to the taste and texture of the brain... The little girl next to me, about 4 or 5 years old, was eating quail from the head... Are you okay? She also had a really shocked expression... I guess so. I couldn't handle it either. Quail is considered a delicacy. So, those who love it, love it. Those who hate it, hate it... By the way, as for me ^^; You shouldn't judge without trying. Thank you for the meal. By the way, Mrs. Kami also couldn't handle it. She didn't eat the head though.

At the storefront, they were grilling quail, and there was a fragrant smell. The appearance is a bit... not my favorite. I ordered udon instead. The noodles in the kitsune udon were a bit soft, and the broth was light and delicious. The zaru udon had a good chewiness.

I took a quick look at the Yoshino River cherry blossoms in Yodo, and decided to move to Fushimi Inari. I wanted to go to "Nezameya" but it was closed, so I went to "Inafuku" in the Fushimi Inari shopping street instead. Their specialty inari sushi uses locally made tofu, and is seasoned carefully with dashi, sugar, and light soy sauce to create a sweet and savory flavor. It was light and delicious. The quail skewers, which I think I may have tried for the first time, were also tasty (I've had various bird skewers overseas, so not completely sure). My partner ordered the Juroku rolled sushi, which was also delicious. I would like to visit again. (PayPay was accepted)

I always visit Fushimi Inari in Kyoto every year. And I always stop by this restaurant. I take a break with a beer and some grilled chicken skewers. Then I enjoy some light Kyoto-style udon noodles. And of course, I can't forget the inari sushi. Thank you for the meal.

After visiting Fushimi Inari Shrine, I stopped by this restaurant. They were offering quail-shaped pastries and sparrow-shaped pastries to eat, but I heard they only have quail-shaped pastries available this season. Personally, I'm not a fan of pastries, so I had warm soba noodles and inari sushi instead. The inari sushi had thick fried tofu pouches soaked in broth, and it was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

I came to Fushimi Inari for the first time ♬ It was lunchtime and there were several shops, so I decided to eat something that would warm me up because it was cold. I had simple udon, but it was great. It had plenty of ingredients and was light to eat. They also have soba and several a la carte options, so if I have the chance to stop by again, I would like to try something else ♬

The kitsune udon was delicious on its own, and the inari sushi that was featured on TV was also very tasty.

Today's lunch was sparrow. It was my first time trying it. Surprisingly, it was quite bony. I felt like a cat. Others ordered sushi rolls, inari sushi sets, and inari sushi. It was a nice atmosphere at the restaurant. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal! ★

After leaving Izakaya Yakumo, I felt like eating Oinari-san since I had come to Fushimi Inari Shrine. I decided to enter a nearby restaurant. It seemed to be closing soon, with only one Chinese tourist inside. I ordered the Kitsune Udon set. The soft udon was comforting. I prefer udon where the broth is the key rather than the firm texture. The broth is the soul of the udon, with ingredients like green onions and fried tofu complementing it. Thank you for the meal.

The bullet train slid into Kyoto Station and the snow started falling almost at the same time. I had booked a hotel near the station, so I quickly walked the short distance shivering in the cold. After dropping off my luggage at the hotel, I set off for Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine in Kyoto. However, before that, I had to try some Higoban. The area was crowded with people, especially foreigners. I waited for about 10 minutes to get a seat at a restaurant along the approach to Fushimi Inari Station. I ordered a set meal while my companion had yuba udon with ginger-flavored sauce, which felt very Kyoto-like. Although the order was a bit mixed up, I ended up with grilled quail bones version. It was a busy meal with trying to warm up and cool down, but in the end, the udon helped me warm up. Now, let's go visit Fushimi Inari Shrine.

When it comes to Fushimi Inari in Kyoto, you must try the grilled sparrow! I really wanted to try it, so I searched for a shop that offers grilled sparrow on the way from the station to Fushimi Inari. Despite being famous, there are only two shops, one near the station (500 yen for takeout only) and the other near Fushimi Inari, where I chose to go. The second shop was 100 yen more expensive, and they only served grilled sparrows in the dining area, which felt like a tourist trap. I had to order one dish per person, so I ordered the grilled sparrow (600 yen for one bird) and the parent and child bowl (880 yen). The parent and child bowl was tender and flavorful, which was satisfying after climbing to the top of Fushimi Inari and feeling tired. As for the grilled sparrow, it looked quite unappetizing. It seemed like they grilled the bird whole, and when I tried eating it from the head, it had a liver and bone flavor, and the meat was not very juicy and lacked flavor. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't delicious either. The guilt I felt was more overwhelming than anything.笑

The other day, I had the opportunity to go to Kyoto, so I decided to visit Fushimi Inari Taisha for the first time. Whether you have been there or not, when you think of a place with many torii gates, you will probably go "ahh!" The time was limited, so I couldn't go all the way up, but before coming here, I had a mission that I must accomplish. "There's sparrow grilled whole (domestic)" I happened to be told. Sparrow!! Can you eat sparrows!? It was shocking. I had never thought about wanting to eat it, but when I heard that you could, I wanted to try it. I searched for it and found the shop quite easily. It's domestic sparrows!! Are there sparrows other than domestic ones? I'm not sure, but I guess domestic is the way to go (mystery). In front of the shop, a young lady was grilling something like chicken wings over charcoal. I had a vague idea, but I was too scared to ask, so I first sneaked into the shop. It's quite crowded... The photo above was taken when I had gained a little immunity and was able to take pictures on my way out. The lady was beautiful, I think. I forgot about sparrows and all... It doesn't look appetizing at all... It looks quite tough and I can't bring myself to take a bite >< I was thinking it would come out like yakitori, but come to think of it, it was a whole grilled sparrow... Maybe that's what she was grilling outside. I wonder where these sparrows were caught, or maybe they were flying around just a while ago... Various thoughts crossed my mind. I mustered up my courage and picked up a skewer. "You can eat everything from the head!" said the lady. It's hard to bite into. It feels like it's looking at me. I took a bite as if saying "here goes!" It feels like something came out. Is it some kind of brain... The body was hard with various bones, not easy to eat. I couldn't quite understand the taste. It didn't seem particularly delicious... But if you get a chance, definitely try it! It might be the most impactful souvenir story from Kyoto, "whole grilled sparrow." Some people might like it, so please give it a try!

My mother and I went to this restaurant on our way back from visiting a shrine. We ordered the domestic sparrow and large quail. The sparrow was seasoned with a soy sauce-based sauce that had a herb-like flavor. Although sparrows are famous at Fushimi Inari, we didn't enjoy the taste. We also tried the large quail, but it was difficult to eat due to the many bones. It was cooked with a unique sauce that also didn't suit our taste. By the way, the appearance of the sparrow was quite grotesque, haha.

Visited Fushimi Inari Shrine in Kyoto and then took out some delicious inari sushi from Inafuku-san. Although I wanted to eat soba noodles inside the restaurant, there was a long line. The inari sushi was small but juicy, with a large fried tofu wrapping. You can taste the kelp flavor in the broth, so delicious! They also had grilled quail skewers outside the restaurant, which looked intimidating but smelled amazing. It seems to be a popular dish.
