This is a small shop! The atmosphere is okay, but the seats are not comfortable - my legs fell asleep in just an hour! The food is average, nothing special. It's a bit plain compared to Tokyo. They usually don't have individual menu items, but on this day, I was able to order freshly caught conger eel, a special treat for the Gion Festival. It was my first time trying conger eel this year. Thanks to the lack of people due to the pandemic, I was able to finally enjoy the one-plate lunch at Gion Kirara, which I had been looking forward to. Luckily, the counter at the very back was available, so I could eat in peace. I chose white wine, which is rare for me. I was pleased that even when ordering by the glass, they left the bottle in front of me for a while. The Kyoto-style obanzai assortment was just right as a side dish. There seemed to be many elderly female customers.

In Gion, Kyoto. I ordered the Ayame-gozen for 2300 yen. You can enjoy Kyoto-style obanzai at a reasonable lunch price. The red lacquered counter is beautiful and gives a calming feeling. The dishes use plenty of Kyoto ingredients and are delicious and enjoyable. The corn cooked rice is gentle and soothing. It was very delicious. Thank you for the meal.

On the second day of my trip to Kyoto, I had made a reservation at a restaurant through the credit card company's concierge service over two months ago. During the reservation process, it was mentioned that there would be no sunken kotatsu-style seating or chairs provided in the raised seating area, so I opted for counter seating instead for my mother who has difficulty with her legs. When we arrived at the restaurant at the opening time, we were asked to wait at the entrance after stating our name. Eventually, we were led to a counter seat for two, where an extra chair was squeezed in between the two original chairs to make it a three-person seat. The food was delicious, but this action was very disappointing. I hope they reconsider the meaning of reservations.

Luckily, there was an available tatami room, so even without a reservation, I was able to get a table. The lunch set had beautiful presentation and each dish was delicious, showing that they are doing a great job. Oh, and the beer was also delicious and went well with the meal.

Exhausted from walking and starving, I was torn between the Kirara Gozen and the Ayame Gozen, but I chose the Ayame Gozen for ¥2,000. It seemed a bit pricey for lunch, but I guess that's normal for Kyoto cuisine. The food arrived quicker than I expected after ordering. The freshly fried tempura with plenty of vegetables and hijiki was delicious, with a Kyoto-style seasoning. There were 10 seasonal side dishes... not bad. The amount of rice was just right for the awkward timing we came in. I might have been able to eat the Kirara Gozen too. If I have the chance, I'd like to come back and try the Kirara Gozen at a proper time. It seems unlikely that I'll be able to come at night. I was a bit nervous entering a Kyoto restaurant, but the staff were kinder than I expected, which put me at ease. Thank you for the meal. It's really unusual to see so few people in Kyoto on a weekday. There were so many closed and empty shops around Kiyomizu-dera, which was a bit sad. So I spent money at various places before heading back. As a tourist, I made sure to purchase items that were demonstrated to me! I love the bustling Kyoto, but the quiet and calm atmosphere was also enjoyable and allowed me to relax. It was cute to see young people in kimonos enjoying sightseeing. Let's support the Japanese economy together!

I ordered the most luxurious "Kirara Gozen" for 3,500 yen, which included ginger rice, red miso soup, fresh yuba, tempura, and a variety of other dishes. The sashimi was delicious, especially the mackerel sushi. The ayu fish, salt-grilled, was perfectly seasoned. The delicious obanzai at Sai Gozen on Hanami Koji Street is fantastic. The tempura and seasonal vegetables really bring out the flavors of the ingredients. The mixed rice was also quite tasty. For 2000 yen, it's rare to find a meal of this quality on Hanami Koji Street.

In autumn in Kyoto, I took a photo of Yasaka Pagoda at night in Gion and was planning to eat at a certain restaurant, but it was closed. So, I wandered around. I always admired Gion, but was nervous because it seemed high-end. However, I saw food bloggers having lunch at a nearby restaurant, so I decided to go for it. It's located near Kennin-ji Temple on Hanami-koji Street in Gion. We had a 5000 yen course. My partner enjoyed Kyoto Fushimi sake while I opted for the Matsutake mushroom dish. The staff suggested adding Matsutake mushroom to our meal, and my partner had Matsutake mushroom steamed in a pot. It was a refined dining experience. After the meal, we stepped outside and the street was bustling with activity. We even saw a geisha, which made the experience even more satisfying. Thank you for the wonderful meal. It was a weekday night and we walked in without a reservation, but the restaurant was quite full at a later hour.
