They are now a popular Kyoto souvenir, but back in the day when I used to buy them regularly, they weren't as well-known. I also bought an "Apple Pie" and "Marron D'Amour". The Marron D'Amour exceeded my expectations with its delicious taste, while the Apple Pie was a bit underwhelming when reheated in the toaster. Last year, I finally tried the product I didn't end up buying. ■ Summer Special Tea Land Gu Sha "Cool Tea Sweets" (3 pieces) @450 yen (tax included) A Kyoto-style baked confectionery with rich tea-flavored land gu sha filled with white chocolate. The regular "Tea Sweets" seems to have a bit more white chocolate, but I accidentally bought the seasonal product due to lack of knowledge. The land gu sha is crispy and fragrant. The white chocolate is delicious, but quite minimal. The size is small, more suitable for adults. The price is also reasonable, so it might be a bit challenging as a souvenir for school trip students.

I came across Marunouchi Blanc at various places, but when I visited the Isetan store, I found an interesting collaboration product! I'm not sure if it's only available here or if it just caught my eye here... It's a "tea confection" with a standing statue of Kuya Shonin from Rokuharamitsu-ji temple depicted on it for 450 yen (including 8% tax). The package features the statue and the confection itself shows a Buddha figure coming out of Kuya Shonin's mouth! Amazing! And, I think it might be my first time trying a tea confection. It's delicious!

Among them, Maruburanshi's matcha langue de chat cookies are perfect for a large group of people, such as coworkers. I bought some sweets from the Depachika at Kyoto Isetan. The strawberry packaging was cute so I got the Soft Strawberry Apple Pie with 3 pieces for ¥780 (excluding tax). I also purchased the Sakura packaging, the Tea Sweets - Matcha Langue de Chat with 3 pieces for ¥417 (excluding tax) which was also cute. The taste was consistently delicious.

The packaging and store exude a sense of luxury, but the product itself is disappointing as it lacks substance. It kills the matcha flavor and instead spreads the sweetness and aroma of white chocolate. The only saving grace is the crispy texture. I will never buy it again, and the only consolation is that I didn't purchase it for gifting purposes.

Back in my student days, it was a popular cake shop on Kitayama for dates, but now you can easily buy it at department stores in Tokyo... times have changed. Now, onto the choux cream - it was similar to Jofran in Hirakata, with a soft pastry. It was rich in the scent of vanilla beans, and the custard was generous. At 108 yen, it was a great deal. Her Kyoto souvenirs are always the same: Marublanche's Langue de Chat and rich matcha Fondant Chocolat. They are delicious, and I always love them.
