It is definitely not cheap. That's how amazing the lineup of Burgundy wines is. I think there was only one Bordeaux wine available (lol), and the atmosphere of the restaurant is also wonderful. It's worth stretching your budget a little to visit.

I visited Sayura, a high-end wine bar in a townhouse on the south side of Gion. At first glance, it seems exclusive, but I was warmly welcomed by the beautiful owner and seated at the counter. The counter is made of a large, solid Bubinga slab, which is quite impressive. The interior of the store is also very elegant. The wine menu is also very impressive, with a long list of Burgundy wines. I had a great conversation with the owner and before I knew it, 3 hours had passed. I feel like I was gently healed in some way.

It is mainly a membership-based place, but I went there on a whim because I heard that non-members can also go on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 3pm to 6pm. The location is across from the Gion Kaburenjo Theater on Hanami Koji. The design is sophisticated and refined, typical of Kyoto, and the staff are very knowledgeable about wine. They taught me a lot while I enjoyed a few glasses. I definitely want to come back soon.

After the meal in Iida, we were taken to a charming wine bar. It was a hidden gem with a referral system, which is always appealing to wine lovers. The place had a Kyoto-like atmosphere, and upon entering, we were greeted by an inviting space. The spacious white wooden counter gave off a chic and relaxing vibe. Despite being a members-only establishment, the owner, a woman, was friendly and a great conversationalist. We, a group of four, had a lively chat with her. The wines were on the pricier side, but on the flip side, it's not often you can enjoy such good wines at a wine bar. After a delightful meal, when you feel like having a wonderful wine, this place is perfect. Grateful to the friend who took us to this amazing spot.

Located along Hanami Koji Street, Sayura Van Fan is a bar that may appear to be a tea house from the outside. The interior is simple and does not resemble a typical bar, with a display of bottles arranged like in a traditional Japanese restaurant. In the back, you can enjoy a view of the garden. I tried the Fleury Pere et Fils Fleur de l'Europe Brut, a Champagne served at events like the Nobel Prize ceremony. It was not overly sweet, with a sharp taste. The staff aims to provide a unique experience in this space, focusing on the essence of the establishment. Sayura Van Fan is a place where you can savor the core elements without any unnecessary frills.

After finishing a dinner nearby, we walked over to Sayura for a wine bar recommended by a friend who lives in Kyoto. We had made a reservation for four people. The location is near the Gion district, where you can truly feel the essence of Kyoto. The entrance is marked by a lantern, adding to the Gion atmosphere. The sign for Sayura Vin Fins is small, so you might miss it if you're not paying attention. Upon opening the sliding door, you are greeted by a simple and elegant interior. Through another door to the left, there is a private room and further back, a counter. Beyond that is a small garden, giving a true Kyoto feel. We were offered the choice of using either the private room or the counter, and we chose the counter, which was spacious and comfortable. The wine recommended by the owner was a SAVIGNY-LES BEAUNE LES PEUILLETS Premier Cru 2011, which was delicate and feminine with a fruity and smooth taste. The owner was a charming and elegant lady. We look forward to returning for a more leisurely visit next time. It's a wonderful bar where adults can gather and enjoy a lovely atmosphere.

I visited "SAYURAVINSFINS" in Gion, Kyoto. It's a wine bar tucked away in a quiet location. The interior is elegant with a beautiful counter and a small garden. The wine list mainly features Champagne and Burgundy, reflecting the owner's love for Pinot. I tried a 1993 GEVREY-CHAMBERTIN from Domaine Henri Perrot-Minot, recommended by a friend. Despite the high price, the wine was well-preserved and had a smooth, balanced taste. The cheese platter was delicious, especially the rare Dutch Mimolette. Overall, it was a delightful experience in a relaxed Kyoto atmosphere.

When walking in Gion, near Kennin-ji Temple, there is a wine bar with a modest signboard. They only serve Champagne and Burgundy. As it was my second bar of the night, I decided to have a glass instead of a bottle. The spacious counter made of a single plank, the illuminated courtyard, and the wall behind the counter with only one painting create a calm atmosphere. The orderly interior design makes you feel relaxed. It's a space for adults where the owner's taste shines through.

The pattern of "Next is here after Ogata" is becoming more common. It was quite difficult to find, even though I said it was next to Kawatomi, the drunk Ten wandered around for about 5 minutes. It was like Harry Potter's station (laughs). But when I met Hitomi from Wonderland, I felt relieved. The wine list is quite DEEP PURPLE. Ten had so much red wine at home that he ordered a full bottle of 100% Arianico sparkling wine, which had a low acidity with a slightly sweet taste and a velvety texture, like a rare gem that could be called a red wine highball! It seems that the master Jacques Selos went to Italy to instruct and make it. It was interesting in its own way, but in summer, I prefer a refreshing Blanc de Blancs. I wanted to say "squeeze some lemon," but I couldn't. Because I would feel sorry for Hitomi if I made her cry (laughs). I'll come back next time. Let's have a chat over some sashimi next time. Muwahaha. After three months, I visited Kyoto again, unfortunately in the autumn rain. I enjoyed the first matsutake mushrooms from Tango at the trendy "Young Wolf" restaurant, and now, it's time for the second round. Oh no, I didn't think about it at all. I wonder if there's a DEEP wine bar around here? When in trouble, I called Kamiyama. The young landlady said, "Oh my, you were in Kyoto, weren't you? Unfortunately, my husband is currently in Tokyo. Oh? Are you looking for a wine bar? I'm not good at that area. I'll ask my husband now." I was introduced to this place by Kuto-san from Tokyo. It seems to be located at the Kinkaku-ji Temple on Hanami-koji Street in Gion, but I couldn't understand it well because of Ten's poor sense of direction. When I called the store, it seemed to be next to Kawatomi. But there was no sign next to the ordinary townhouse. Helpless, I asked the waitress at Kawatomi, "Is it Tayura-san? I think that was the name next door, but I don't know what kind of store it is (laughs)." But when I went outside again and looked carefully, I found a sign on a pure wooden board saying, "I found a small autumn, a small autumn, a small store name." When I entered the store, I couldn't find the master-like sommelier. Muwahaha. Now, let's talk about red wine. "Um, I'm the manager here..." What? Sitting there was a cute girl with exotic eyes that could be found in a Balinese spa. "Are you making fun of me?" I thought, but she smoothly recited her knowledge of Burgundy appellations, domains, and vintages. The atmosphere of the store was like a celebration of shadows with dim lighting. A suitable space for a hideaway on Hanami-koji Street with a straight counter made of a single slab of Bubinga wood. The wall was adorned with a single flower vase, creating a subtly mysterious atmosphere that was just right for Crow's taste. "Show me the wine list." Oh! A maniacal list that doesn't give an inch to Vandreve in Ginza. They even have a Romane-Conti '66. Probably frequented by geisha and some celebrity from somewhere. Of course, Ten passed, "We have sparkling, white, and red wines by the glass." "No, you're being underestimated. Let's see how you handle Ten's wine lecture." So, let's try JF Mugnier's Nuits-Saint-Georges Clos de la Maréchale '04 and Joseph Michel's Special Club '00. The cellar conditions seemed ideal. In perfect condition. Enjoyed with cheese and dried raspberries. 4 people for 44,000 yen. Cost performance is in favor of Vandreve. But anyway, this store is a truly invaluable place as a Gion red wine otaku hangout with her mysterious charm and a mood-filled hideaway in Gion. Now, all you wine lovers across the country who want to talk about red wine on Hanami-koji Street, crawl on the ground if you have to, find this store, become a regular customer now!

When I go to Kyoto, it's usually for a second or third round of drinks. This time was no exception, with another place to visit after dinner. I vaguely remember the location, down a small alley. It seemed like the kind of place where you need to know someone to get in. Not the type of place you'd find on a food review site maybe? We entered and sat at the counter. I liked the atmosphere of the restaurant - it was calming. But it wasn't the kind of place where you could have silly conversations; it was more serious. There were private rooms available, but it seemed like it would be difficult to make a lot of noise anywhere in the restaurant. We ordered a bottle of Burgundy wine first, then a vintage bottle. It felt a bit pricey, but we all had a great and satisfying time.

I first visited this place on a recommendation and I have been stopping by whenever I visit Kyoto. There are no signs outside, but once you open the door, you step into a lovely atmosphere with only female staff. The owner, who is a young sommelier, has an impressive knowledge of wines and even travels to France to personally select them. As we are fans of Burgundy wines, we always enjoy the best wines here. The cheese and chocolate we have with the wine are also delicious, and time flies by quickly. If you love wine, this place is a must-visit!

- Hidden gem wine bar on Hanamikoji Street, opened in 2004 and relocated to its current location in 2009 near the northeast corner of Kennin-ji Temple in Gion district. - The name "SAYURA" is a coined term with no specific meaning. - The interior of the bar has a Kyoto-like atmosphere with a courtyard. There are 10 counter seats, private rooms, and tatami rooms available. - Managed by Hitomi Takei and one other person. - Specializes in bottled wines with a selection limited to Champagne and Burgundy. - Only one type of Champagne, white, and red wine are available by the glass, with daily rotation. - No explanations are given for the glass wines unless asked. - The quality of the wines is excellent. - Glassware includes Kimura Glass and Schott Zwiesel. - Limited food options available such as pate, Caesar salad, nuts, and cheese. - Pricing system is unclear, but approximately 10,000 yen for one glass each of Champagne, white, and red wine. - Various other details.

A hidden wine bar in Gion. It is basically by invitation only, but if you understand what kind of place this is by checking the website, it seems to be okay. There is no sign at the entrance, and the name of the shop is not visible on the nameplate, so you won't be able to enter if you don't know it. Inside, there is a splendid white wooden counter with about 10 seats. There are also table seats behind the counter. The interior is very simple, with all the glasses neatly stored on the shelves. When you look towards the back, you can see a courtyard through a large window, creating a lovely Kyoto-like atmosphere. I visited early in the day, so there were no other customers, just a woman who seemed to be not the owner behind the counter. I enjoyed slowly sipping on about 4 glasses of Burgundy. Unfortunately, I forgot the names of the wines... The snacks were a combination of dried fruits and cheese, beautifully arranged in a feminine way. The service was very polite. There seem to be many high-class regular customers, so the attention to detail is impeccable. Even for a customer like me who stands out, they didn't look down on me and even engaged in conversation. The owner also came during my one-hour stay, and the seats were filled with regulars. Since it's not a place to drink heavily, I left at a pleasantly tipsy state. After enjoying a tea ceremony, I could imagine indulging in conversation while tilting a wine glass here in Gion. It's a place where you need to be a bit mindful of the other customers, but I would love to visit again.

I heard that there used to be a shop in Ponto-cho, but I found out about it after it opened in Gion. It's located right in front of the Gion Kobu Kaburenjo Theater, but there isn't a very noticeable sign, so it's more of a place known to those in the know. However, once you step inside, it's bustling with regular customers. The atmosphere inside the shop is really nice, very elegant and calming. I don't know much about wine, but it's fun to talk to the owner and find a delicious wine that suits you! The prices are not cheap, but it's a luxurious treat once in a while. It might be perfect for adult couples!

I visited the wine bar SAYURA VINS FINS in Gion. It was recommended by a friend and I found the atmosphere very stylish, allowing for a relaxing time. They have a wide variety of drinks and the place is perfect for a date. I tried the wine recommended by my friend, which was very fruity and not too strong, very delicious. I usually prefer beer, but occasionally enjoying wine at such a stylish place is nice.

I walked on the cobblestones on the south side of Gion, just before Kennin-ji Temple, where there is a small sign for "sayura" on the right. I love the light brown interior of the shop with a magnificent one-piece counter. The harmonious blend of the vivid green of the garden and the light brown color is beautiful, and the owner, Mr. Hitomi, is so beautiful. Today, I will enjoy the wine chosen by the lovely person I am with. The first glass was a fruity and easy-to-drink wine, and the second glass was also delicious. I forgot to ask for the name... what a shame. I keep discovering such wonderful spaces... my list of favorite shops keeps growing. It's a place where women can feel safe going alone, and I think it would be a great choice for a date.

09/09 revisit I visited this restaurant twice this week. The white wooden counter is very lovely. I heard that they have added more dishes to the menu, so I am looking forward to trying them next time. It's a special place in Gion Hanamikoji, but it's always nice to be able to enjoy delicious wine at a reasonable price. 09/07 revisit The owner of this restaurant, Hitomi-san, is really hardworking. To think that at such a young age, she opened a stylish wine bar in Pontocho, and now she has an even more impressive store in Gion Hanamikoji. I heard that her ultimate goal is to expand to Tokyo, so I am excited to see what the future holds. Speaking of which, although their styles are different, Mr. Mankuchi from Rockfish also successfully expanded from Osaka to Tokyo and turned his restaurant into a thriving business. It's reassuring to see both men and women with such high aspirations. The Gion store has a larger counter now, and the single wooden counter is a stunning feature that is truly captivating. They also have private rooms, with tatami rooms on the second floor, providing ample space for a restaurant. With one more beautiful staff member, there is a more relaxed atmosphere in the service. I ended up here after drinking at Yamashita in Kiyamachi. I had a bottle of champagne with a crisp and refreshing aroma. They really offer delicious wine at a reasonable price. Champagne is often enjoyed as an aperitif, but after having delicious Japanese cuisine, champagne is sure to make you feel refreshed. The containers are also lovely, with Baccarat from 100 years ago, and they are casually brought out, which is enchanting to look at. As always, it's a stylish bar with a clean and tense atmosphere where you can enjoy delicious wine in beautiful glasses, like a wonderful hidden gem for adults. Previous review before the location change Located on the right side of the 13th alley, heading east from the intersection in front of the elementary school quite a bit down from Sanjo in Kiyamachi. There is no sign, so first-time visitors may be confused. And when you enter the store, you will be surprised again by the lack of anything else in the store except for the white wooden counter. It's a truly simple interior that seems to embody the architectural principle "Less is more" advocated by the famous architect Le Corbusier. Classical music quietly flows in the silence. Inside the counter, there is a beautiful female bartender. It's a different space that makes the hustle and bustle of Kiyamachi feel like a lie. Of course, they will serve you according to your preference, but as a principle of this store being a wine bar, they select and serve wine based on their own taste and sensibility, tailored to the customer's preferences. Yesterday, after visiting Yamashita in Kiyamachi, which I gave the highest rating in my TABElog post, I went there for the first time in a while and had a crisp and elegant white wine. It's a great place for a delicious finale.
