I had been told that this place was delicious and I finally got the chance to go. They seem to have a wider selection of fried dishes than meat dishes. I had croquettes, curry croquettes, and fried skewers for dinner, and I also bought croquettes and raw skewers to fry at home. The croquettes had a delicious sweetness from the onions, making them very tasty. The fried skewers were also delicious whether hot or cold, just as I had been told. Next time I go, I will make sure to open up my freezer and buy a lot more! 🍽️

Everyone has unforgettable memories. For me, croquettes evoke a sense of nostalgia. It must be because it is connected to distant memories of my own early experiences. In 1964, I was living in an apartment in Yamashina-ku, Higashiyama-ku, Kyoto. I could see the elevated tracks of the Tokaido Shinkansen being built beyond the fields outside my window. Occasionally, test trains would pass by, filling me with excitement. For a child who had just turned 4, it was the first glimpse of a future dream. Around that time, I remember going to a butcher shop in front of Yamashina Station with my mother. Large cuts of meat were hanging in the back refrigeration room. I loved the croquettes from this shop, and I would watch eagerly as they were freshly fried. I would love to eat those croquettes from that shop again, but unfortunately, the shop no longer exists. The shop was called "Iroha." I heard that the croquettes from a butcher shop along National Route 307, just east of the Hashimoto River Bridge, were delicious, so I decided to visit. The shop was also called "Iroha." Just hearing the name made me want to stop by. I ordered 5 croquettes, and they were fried on the spot. In less than 5 minutes, they were taken out of the fryer, perfectly golden brown. The hot croquettes were placed in a paper bag, and as I held them, a sweet aroma wafted up. I couldn't resist and ate one in the car on the way home. The crispy fried coating, the sweet and savory potato filling was perfectly seasoned. I wanted to eat them all right there, but I managed to hold back and took them home. I never did find out if this shop was related to the one that used to be in front of Yamashina Station. It probably wasn't. But at this point, that didn't matter. By the time I got home, the croquettes were still warm but starting to soften, which was also quite enjoyable. The well-seasoned flavor was best enjoyed as is. On a summer afternoon, enjoying croquettes with a cold beer was a deeply satisfying experience. Come to think of it, my late father also loved croquettes when he was healthy. The memories associated with croquettes are endless.

This is an old butcher shop that has been around for a long time, but a few years ago they relocated and are still in business. Their take-out croquettes are delicious, but I was surprised to find out that they are not listed on Tabelog (a popular restaurant review website in Japan). The croquettes have a crispy thin coating on the outside, and a soft, slightly gooey texture on the inside. They are made with sweet potatoes and minced meat, providing a satisfying chewiness. I could eat as many as I want as a snack. They offer a variety of fried foods, but I always end up ordering more croquettes. The meat they sell is also delicious. It has a flavor similar to Matsusaka beef, but at a more affordable price. I wonder if it comes from a nearby region. I haven't taken any photos yet, but I will next time. For now, I just wanted to register and leave a review.
