After finishing some errands near Kyoto Station, I went to "Kingyo" for dinner, which serves charcoal-grilled skewers and deep-fried skewers. The main branch is located in Nishioji Sanjo, and I remember visiting there once when I used to work nearby. The restaurant is quite small and cozy, with counter seats where we were seated. There is also a second floor. Even though my partner doesn't drink much alcohol, he enjoys these kinds of places with great flavors, so he really liked it. The beer was served slightly frozen, very cold and delicious. We ordered a skewer assortment (5 skewers) for 550 yen, which was a mix of different meats. I'm not a fan of certain things (like skin or internal organs), so I couldn't eat much of it. The negima (green onion and meat skewer) with sauce was delicious. We also had a sashimi assortment for 980 yen, which was thick and satisfying. The deep-fried skewer assortment (5 skewers) for 450 yen included salmon, octopus, pork, lotus root, and ginkgo. The thin batter was crispy, and the sauce was delicious. We tried ankimo (monkfish liver), which I rarely eat, and it had a rich texture and was tasty, but quite filling. We continued with some delicious sake and ordered two types. We also had sasamaki mentaiko for 450 yen, enoki bacon for 160 yen, quail egg for 160 yen, chicken and meatball for 120 yen, and shiso roll for 100 yen. The Italian gyoza had plenty of cheese on top, just as expected, and it was tasty. We finished with salmon ochazuke and plum ochazuke for 450 yen each. Feeling pleasantly tipsy, we enjoyed the delicious food and ended up eating a lot. The restaurant is located at Higashicho 581-6, Shimogyo-ku, Kyoto, open from 17:30 to 3:00, closed on Sundays.
