On the way back from Sanjo, I couldn't resist entering Juuban Ukyo after seeing a sign saying "Drinks welcome." We had the scallop in Shaoxing wine marinade for 500 yen each, which had a strong flavor. I ordered a Momotaro tomato highball for 950 yen, while my wife got a medicinal ginger ale for 880 yen. We also ordered a caviar rice bowl for 2520 yen and truffle egg over rice for 2980 yen with less rice. The caviar bowl was delicious, especially with regular rice instead of vinegared rice. The truffle egg over rice had a strong truffle aroma and was delicious. I found that dipping the leftover egg yolk from the truffle egg over rice into the caviar rice was also very tasty. The total bill for a 20-minute stay was 9622 yen.

A stylish izakaya located in Asakusa. Although we didn't have a reservation, we were able to get a table because it was late. Inside, there were many foreign tourists, especially Chinese guests who seemed to be having a great time. It was nice to see them enjoying Japan. We had potato salad and bamboo shoot tempura, but I forgot to take photos. The highlight of this place is the delicious sake. The mapo tofu was spicy and numbing, which I liked but my husband found it too spicy. The famous egg over rice was good, but personally, I think there are other places in the same area that do it just as well. However, the atmosphere here is really nice, so I recommend it for dates or business meals.

A friend and I decided to celebrate their work achievement by taking a day off and going to a slightly upscale restaurant that we don't usually visit. We don't drink alcohol, so we mainly had tomato juice, apple juice, and orange juice. The restaurant had an amazing lineup of "last dish" options, so we skipped the alcohol and went straight to the last dish. While waiting for my friend to arrive, I enjoyed some delicious appetizers like bamboo shoot tempura and coriander salad. When my friend arrived, we also tried a special smoked hamburger with cheese, which had a unique ingredient that tasted like smoked cheese. We couldn't quite figure out what it was, but it added an interesting flavor to the dish. We then had to choose our final dish, and after some discussion, we settled on flower pepper sukiyaki rice, truffle egg rice, foie gras rice with soy sauce, and sea urchin egg rice. The rice portions were small, so we were able to finish them easily. My friend especially enjoyed the foie gras rice, while I found the egg rice with dashi and the unique texture of flower pepper to be a new and refreshing experience. We were planning to relax and chat all night, but my friend received a work call and had to leave suddenly. I hope they don't overwork themselves and take care of their health.

We ordered a Japanese sake set with three side dishes: mentaiko (spicy cod roe), shark cartilage, and salted innards of red snapper. The salted innards were tasty, but the crab and wagyu beef hotpot seemed to use imported frozen crab that did not match the price. Other dishes included instant-smoked amberjack, crunchy lotus root kinpira, instant-smoked hamburger, silver cod marinated in miso, sea urchin dumplings, and truffle rice topped with raw egg. The total bill was 11,000 yen.

I used to frequent this restaurant after work, but this time I was surprised! The attitude of the staff was extremely poor, and honestly, it was the first time I felt so unpleasant. Perhaps due to the relocation and downsizing after COVID, and maybe the staff has changed. We were shocked when a woman came and said in a strong tone, "It's been two hours, time to pay the bill!" It was quite rude. What was wrong with that woman? My friend and I are not ones to be bothered by small things, but anyone would be surprised by her attitude this time! Also, there were two male waiters and two female waiters, but they were busy on their phones and didn't notice us even when we tried to get their attention. It's a shame that the service has deteriorated significantly compared to three years ago. The food was delicious, so it's disappointing!
