I have been taken to this restaurant by an acquaintance a few times. When you slide open the stylish door, you'll find a white wooden counter where about 10 people can sit. There is also a raised tatami area in the back, making it a beautiful place that anyone would want to make their regular spot. You can ask the chef for recommendations of the day, or if you prefer, you can state your budget beforehand for peace of mind. When I went in January, I enjoyed dishes like young eel, seaweed and crab, and other seasonal Kyoto delicacies, followed by sushi as an à la carte option, which is my preferred way of eating. I also had a great experience with a set course meal in the raised tatami area before. Of course, the sweetfish sashimi and sushi are top-notch, as you would expect from a sushi restaurant. The chef is friendly, but the menu leans towards high-end izakaya style. I'm not sure if they still offer it, but I highly recommend trying their special rolled sushi. It's also amazing to enjoy on the Shinkansen ride back to Tokyo. While I wish the prices were a bit lower, I find it more enjoyable to savor the skillful work of a talented chef at one place rather than trying out manual dishes at multiple chain restaurants of big corporations. I really want to go there right now.
