On October 25th, we celebrated the moon-viewing festival with some delicious treats! We bought a pack of moon-viewing dumplings for 198 yen, which included two white dumplings and two mugwort dumplings. The dumplings were made with domestically-produced rice flour and filled with sweet red bean paste. They were firm and chewy, not too sweet, and the amount of red bean paste was just right. The mugwort flavor was not very strong, but that's okay for this time of year. Overall, considering the price of 50 yen per dumpling, they were surprisingly tasty. It was a satisfying experience enjoying these delicious dumplings while admiring the beautiful moon!

I received this as a souvenir, and the person who gave it to me emphasized that it is often sold at a supermarket called Matsumoto in Kyoto, and it's really cheap. They said it's a kind of apprentice steamed yokan, not the usual kind, more like water yokan. I didn't really know what apprentice yokan was, so I looked it up and found out it's a steamed yokan. I forgot to take a picture because I ate it, but it was indeed water yokan. And it was big! It was about 10 centimeters square, a flat square shape. I'm not sure about the price since it was a gift, but scanning the barcode suggests it's around 200 yen. I shared it with someone and it was satisfying. The taste was refreshing and the sweetness was like the typical Japanese sweets from a supermarket. It was delicious. It seems to be famous in Kyoto, like a long-established store but with a down-to-earth feel. Thank you for the meal!
