Ganko Takasegawa is a mansion cafe located near the Kyoto Nijo Ohashi bridge. Did you know that they also offer afternoon tea at Ganko? It comes with sushi and has a great cost performance! Limited to 10 servings per day for 3,080 yen, you can enjoy it in a Western-style room overlooking the Takase River source garden. You can also enjoy original blend coffee and black tea using Kyoto Uji tea leaves. The meal includes various dishes such as Tanba black beans and tofu mousse, colorful vegetable salad, two types of nama-fu with honey, seasonal vegetable pinchos, flower sushi with tuna and salmon, egg omelette from a sushi restaurant, ham cream cheese bouquet, and more. For desserts, there's matcha-scented cheesecake, bean paste mochi pie, tofu jelly with black honey and kinako, bean milk balm kuuhen, seasonal tart (muskat), and more. They also serve freshly brewed coffee, Kyoto black tea (lemon/milk/straight), flavored tea (sun/moon), Cabernet Sauvignon juice, ginger ale, and orange juice. The flower sushi was cute and delicious, the nama-fu with honey tasted like a sweet treat, and the ham cream cheese bouquet was a cute idea with irresistible saltiness. The mini salad was a nice addition, and the pinchos with young corn, shrimp, burdock, and other flavors were enjoyable. The desserts were unique and delicious, especially the bean milk balm kuuhen and the tofu jelly with black honey and kinako. The matcha cheesecake with a four-leaf clover design was cute and tasty, and the seasonal tart with muskat was delightful. After the meal, you can enjoy a stroll in the Japanese garden for some exercise. The restroom is located towards the back, adding to the mansion exploration experience. Overall, it's a wonderful space with reasonable prices and delicious food. I'm looking forward to visiting again in different seasons! Thank you for the feast! It's been a while since I visited Ganko-san. I had a kaiseki course meal, which was delicious. Although there wasn't anything particularly new or exciting, everything, including the sashimi, was very tasty and satisfying. The tempura with mentaiko was especially delicious this time. The restaurant has many tatami rooms, making it suitable for group gatherings as well as for small groups looking to enjoy a meal while admiring the garden. Thank you for the meal.

I was able to enjoy a leisurely meal while looking out at the garden. The dishes were beautifully presented in fancy plates, and the shabu-shabu meat was just the right amount, not too much. I could savor plenty of Japanese cuisine like sashimi and tempura. Reservations are required, but even for large groups, the seats are spacious and relaxing.

We visited this restaurant last week with a group of friends. It's a branch of a stubborn sushi chain with its headquarters in Osaka. We visited the store in Sanjo, Kyoto, and when I tried to search for it on Google, I was surprised to see it pop up on the screen. I messaged the group on LINE, and everyone immediately agreed to join. A few days ago, a famous provider visited the restaurant and posted about it, leading to a surge in phone calls and online reservations that surprised the staff. I made a reservation online, and a few hours later, I received a polite confirmation call from the restaurant. The day before, I also received an email. Today, despite arriving 30 minutes early for the reservation, we were promptly seated. The entrance was impressive (I forgot to take a photo), and we were led to a room with a beautiful garden view. Even though I didn't plan to eat lunch, I ended up feeling full. You can choose from two drink options, one before the meal and one with the tart at the end. The assistant manager personally served us hot coffee. We also received greetings from the landlady, and everyone was satisfied from start to finish. ❤️

Kyoto Ganko Takasegawa Nijo-en Oyashiki Cafe Afternoon Tea ¥3,080 (tax included) It's amazing to be able to enjoy afternoon tea in a historical and dignified mansion ❤️ Established in Osaka in 1963, Ganko is now known nationwide for its "delicious, affordable, and enjoyable" sushi and Japanese cuisine. In addition to casual stores in entertainment districts, there are also several stores located in historical mansions. Among them, we visited Ganko Takasegawa Nijo-en in Kyoto this time. Built in the Keicho era by the wealthy merchant Tsunokura Ryoei, the Japanese garden (also known as Takasegawa Springs Garden) was created, and later became the villa of the Meiji statesman Aritomo Yamagata. It was passed down to prominent figures such as the third governor of the Bank of Japan, Koichiro Kawada, and is now known as Oiwake-tei, serving as the Ganko Takasegawa Nijo-en restaurant. Passing through the grand gate, you enter the mansion. There are many spacious tatami rooms, but surprisingly, there is also a luxurious Western-style room where you can enjoy sweets and afternoon tea as a "mansion cafe". From the window, you can overlook the Japanese garden, providing a luxurious setting to enjoy afternoon tea, and it's surprisingly very reasonable. The meal set includes: - Tamba chestnut and soy milk mousse - Colorful vegetable salad - Two types of honey-drizzled fresh wheat gluten - Seasonal vegetable pinchos - Tuna and salmon flower sushi - Sushi restaurant-style rolled omelette - Prosciutto cream cheese bouquet The dessert set includes: - Matcha-scented cheesecake - Mochi-wrapped pie with sweet bean paste - Soy milk jelly with black honey and kinako - Soy milk baumkuchen The seasonal tart is Shine Muscat flavored. Drinks include a choice of two from: - Freshly brewed coffee - Kyoto black tea (lemon/milk/straight) - Flavored tea - Ginger ale - Cabernet Sauvignon juice - Orange juice For an additional ¥1,100 (tax included), you can choose one of the following: - Domestic sparkling wine - Special seasonal potage soup The tea foods have a wonderful balance of Japanese and Western cuisine, with a focus on Japanese dishes. The savory items include beautifully arranged temari sushi and rolled omelette from a sushi restaurant. There are also Kyoto-style dishes like fresh wheat gluten. The bite-sized pinchos are easy to eat and feature shrimp and a hearty burdock root stew, among others. A salad is also included with a variety of vegetables. The sweets feature a cute four-leaf clover design on the matcha cheesecake. The soy milk mousse is layered and smooth. A unique dessert is the pie-wrapped pie with mochi, offering a crispy, chewy texture with sweet bean paste inside. For a refreshing summer treat, there's soy milk jelly instead of traditional warabi mochi, with a bouncy texture and black honey and kinako topping. Another popular sweet from Ganko is the soy milk baumkuchen, available in the souvenir corner as well. It's garnished with chocolate sauce or bruleed, offering a unique twist. In addition to the cake stand, a seasonal tart is also included, currently featuring Shine Muscat. It's a generous size, and at ¥638 for a single cake, it's a great deal! The cream cheese cream is not overly sweet, allowing the refreshing sweetness of the Shine Muscat to shine. The drink selection is surprisingly extensive, with options like coffee, Kyoto black tea, herb tea, juice, and more. You can choose two from the list, and I couldn't help but exclaim to the staff, "Are you sure this is all included?" The Cabernet Sauvignon juice even comes in a full bottle of Alain Milliat! It's such a great value considering that a single glass at a hotel would cost around ¥1,000. With such a wide variety of dishes, a great selection of drinks, and the opportunity to enjoy afternoon tea in a historic mansion while overlooking a Japanese garden, all for ¥3,080 (tax included), Ganko is truly generous! I used it for a social gathering on a night in August. The riverside seating is in table style, which is much more comfortable than the traditional tatami seating. The food is typical Japanese cuisine. Some dishes seemed to be pre-made, so the quality was not the best. The tuna was quite watery, possibly thawed. Considering the location, the prices are reasonable so it's understandable.

The restaurant is located in a building that used to be the residence of the famous painter Koryusai. The atmosphere is very calm and serene. The garden, which used to be part of the former residence of the poet Kyorai, has a stream flowing from the source of the Takase River. Even in the hot summer, it feels cool and refreshing. The kaiseki cuisine is delicious and it's a great place to relax and enjoy a leisurely meal.

There were a lot of foreigners visiting the restaurant, casually strolling around the large garden. I visited for a company get-together and enjoyed various dishes in a kaiseki style. However, none of the dishes stood out in my memory. I will try a different menu next time if I have the chance.

At the source of the Takase River, enjoying a matcha parfait in a garden✨ Born in Osaka Juso, I was amazed to find such a wonderful establishment. Originally built in 1611 as a villa for a wealthy merchant, this mansion has a courtyard with the river that is the source of the Takase River. Isn't that simply amazing?❤️ I heard that you can also enjoy a cool summer deck at the detached house facing the Kamogawa River, so I might go check it out when it opens!!┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈Matcha Sakura Parfait 1078 yen Coffee Set 330 yen + Service charge 10%

We used this restaurant as a group. The restaurant is located in the former residence of Kakunodate Ryoji, which has a culturally valuable garden that has been passed down as a villa for famous people and wealthy individuals. By using and maintaining it as a store, it is preserving cultural heritage. I am grateful for the opportunity to enjoy the scent of culture. Despite its location and appearance, which may suggest a high-class establishment, the pricing is reasonable and easy to use. It is perfect for experiencing a little bit of the extraordinary during a banquet. Initially, they prepared a room where we could view the garden, but it was changed to a private room due to a decrease in the number of participants. The autumn leaves were in full bloom, and the atmosphere was very lively and bustling. The dish in the photo is the Takasegawa Gozen, which I believe costs 4,500 yen. It was beautifully presented in a refined manner befitting the mansion and garden, and it was delicious. The sake, "Ganko Ittettsu," an original sake, was easy to drink and received numerous orders from the participants. The kimono-clad waitresses came by frequently to check on us, serving dishes, clearing empty plates, and adding drinks with meticulous attention. Surprisingly, there was a serving robot in the hallway that seemed out of place with the restaurant's atmosphere, but the waitresses still came to assist. The garden is beautifully lit up and can be explored. The autumn leaves reflected in the waterway drawn from the Takase River were very beautiful. The dishes were elegantly and beautifully presented, in line with the restaurant's atmosphere, and we enjoyed them visually as well. The Ganko restaurant's image I had in mind, as a more casual place, was quite different. Perhaps this particular branch is special. It seems that it has been featured on a TV show called "Buratamori." They also have a cafe menu, so stopping by for a garden viewing during a day of exploring Kyoto is nice, and enjoying a different seasonal expression at a different time of year would be lovely too.

This is a shop renovated from the residence of Kuroda Yoshitaka. The garden is wonderful. I enjoyed a leisurely meal with a Takasegawa Gozen. The appetizers in the tiered box were delicious. It was filled with small Kyoto-style side dishes. I added vinegar to the hot pot with yuba and crumbled tofu. Tempura, sashimi, rice, dessert. The soy milk jelly dessert was a bit too firm and not great. It would have been better if it was softer. Thank you for the feast.

Ganko in Nijo, Kyoto. The restaurant is located in a traditional building with a beautiful garden. I ordered the all-you-can-drink shabu-shabu course. Before the shabu-shabu, we were served colorful sashimi and small dishes, which were both delicious and visually appealing. It was enjoyable to dine while looking at the garden. The cost performance was good and I left satisfied. Thank you for the meal!

This time, I went to Kyoto alone for a quick 2-night stay. One of the main purposes was to celebrate the birthday of a geiko I love in Gion Kabu, with a lunch and photo session. On the second day for lunch, I visited Ganko Takasegawa Nijo-en. A meal gathering was held here with the geiko who served as models for the photos exhibited in the indoor corridor, which was related to the photo session. You can view the exhibited photos by clicking on the link below. The exterior covered with stone walls gives off a solemn atmosphere. Around 1611, a villa was built by a wealthy merchant at the source garden of Takase River, which was later inherited by renowned wealthy families. Despite being in the city, the water from the Kamogawa River's tributary, Misosogi River, flows into the garden pond and then into the Takase River, giving it the name "Takasegawa Genryu Teien." The garden was created by Kobori Enshu in the Edo period and further enhanced by the seventh generation of the Ogawa family in the Meiji era. Just admiring this magnificent garden made me feel elegant. However, the atmosphere inside the rooms (several 4-person table seats) was not as impressive. As for the food, in addition to the participation fee for the photo session, I paid the organizer 2500 yen for the meal. Drinks were generously provided by a participant. The dishes were brought to each room by robots and then served by the waitstaff from the entrance to the table. The menu mainly featured conger eel, fitting for August, but the taste was as expected for a large banquet setting. It was inevitable due to the fixed price of 2500 yen. The sea bream, the celebratory dish, was served individually on small plates after being taken back to the kitchen for preparation. The garden seemed open for exploration, offering a sight worth seeing, but I found it challenging to revisit for the food, as I am not fond of banquet-style meals for large groups. Overall, it was an interesting experience.

This is the site of the former residence of Tsunenori Tsunekura, which later became the second Munin-an of Arisaka Arisato. The seventh-generation Ogawa Jihei created a garden by drawing water from the Misosogi River of the Kamogawa River into the garden and flowing it into the Takase River. I came here today to see that. In the afternoon, it's also okay to have just dessert for a cafe time. I was led to a lovely room-like space and enjoyed Shine Muscat tart and iced coffee, taking a breather. After that, I finally fulfilled my wish to explore the garden. It was a two-birds-with-one-stone experience at Ganko-en.

Sometimes I eat something other than ramen. I went to Kyoto for a work-related gathering. After the meeting at Hotel Keihan Kyoto Grande, we took separate taxis to this place. Personally, it was my first time at a riverside dining experience. Along the way, I saw many buildings that truly represent the charm of Kyoto. The restaurant itself was also wonderful, set in an old traditional Japanese house that seemed to belong to a wealthy family. The garden was also beautiful. We walked through the garden to reach the riverside dining area. The cool breeze from the river was refreshing and the food was quite generous in portion. The restaurant was quite busy, and the staff seemed very busy too. I forgot to take photos, but there was also a hot pot dish available. It was a fun experience. Thank you for the meal.

Ganko Sushi is a unique restaurant with a spacious Japanese garden, which is not commonly seen. I visited this restaurant on a company trip. We enjoyed a kaiseki course in a calm room at Takasegawa Nijo-en. The course started with an appetizer, followed by simmered dishes, tempura, sashimi, meat dishes, and finally, nigiri sushi. The portions were generous and everything was delicious.

This is my second visit. The atmosphere of the restaurant is nice. The food is okay. However, the restaurant's ambiance overshadows the food. The service is inexperienced, with the veterans just watching from the back. The price for this ambiance is luxurious, but there is no parking available, you have to find somewhere to park.

I remembered that I had been here before and this was my second visit, but it's been 9 years and time really flies. This time, I came for a party and was greeted by waitresses in traditional Japanese attire. The meal was a course menu starting with an assortment of appetizers and sashimi. There were also small dishes of fish snacks in a basket. It was fun to watch, truly a specialty of this restaurant. The meal continued with a soup, steamed egg custard, and the main dish of simmered yellowtail in paper pot. Nowadays, individual servings have become more common, and the communal pot-sharing culture seems to have disappeared. The meal ended with a crab gratin, which was a bit of a surprise, but overall, the course was enjoyable. After dinner, we took a walk in the beautifully lit garden. It was a delightful day with a pleasant buzz.

I visited a restaurant with a senior colleague for the first time. The room had a private garden and the food and drinks were served quickly. The service by the staff was good, giving a high-class traditional Japanese restaurant vibe. However, the food was just ordinary kaiseki cuisine. The atmosphere was nice, so it could be a good option for lunch during sightseeing in Kyoto.

It is said to be always crowded, but we were seated promptly due to the current situation. The biggest draw is being able to dine while overlooking a large Japanese garden with a river running alongside the Kamogawa River. The menu is rich in variety, especially seafood, and offers a reasonable price that is easy to order from both a la carte and kaiseki options. The fish dishes are all delicious and well worth the cost. You can also take a walk in the garden.

This is a ryokan run by Kanko at Takasegawa Nijo En. We enjoyed watching a maiko dance in a private room while having a meal, followed by a lively chat with the maiko in a mask. I don't drink alcohol, so I had water, which tasted delicious. The sashimi was delicious, as well as the final takikomi gohan. Other dishes like appetizers, simmered dishes, main dishes, and side dishes were all imaginably tasty. Dessert was almond jelly with coffee. We had a full two hours of maiko dancing just for us, making it a very special and precious time.
