On the second day of the Kyoto autumn leaves trip, I spent about 4 hours exploring the Arashiyama area from morning. The combination of the elegant Arashiyama and the autumn leaves, which stand out even in the elegant Kyoto, was so artistic that it had an unreal beauty. I originally wanted to eat obanzai or soba in Arashiyama, but the notable restaurants were a complete failure at the reservation stage. I decided to leave Arashiyama and find a place to eat at the next destination. I headed to Demachiyanagi for a visit to Shimogamo Shrine and the Kamogawa Delta. Although I had no plan, there were many restaurants in this area, so I started exploring in the hope of finding something. Then, I found a line that seemed not too long and realistic to wait for (laughs). It was said to be a shop specializing in curry udon and oden with plenty of Kujo green onions. Alright! I also want to try the Kyoto-style oden. This will be today's lunch. Arrived on Sunday at 13:20, with 7 people waiting outside. Today's order: Kujo Negi Curry Udon with meat and mushrooms, Yakigohan lunch set ¥1,430, Kujo Negi extra ¥200, Gobo tempura ¥250, Daikon ¥300, Draft beer ¥600. First, beer and oden were served. Let's dig in. It's a light taste, but the dashi is strong and well-infused. The first bite may seem thinner compared to Kanto-style oden, but the taste of the dashi is solid, so there is no lack of flavor and it is pleasantly delicious. The daikon is soft, well-infused with dashi, and has a gentle taste. Kyoto-style oden is delicious. It's gentle, and it seems like it can be eaten deliciously at any time. This must be the strength of Kyoto-style cuisine. Next, the main dish, meat and mushroom Kujo Negi curry udon, was served. I ordered extra Kujo Negi, so the appearance was luxurious with plenty of green onions. The curry is almost like a thick roux rather than a soup, with high viscosity and a strong sweetness, but it seems that the spices are firmly working as I start to sweat. It's easy to eat and delicious. And the overflowing Kujo Negi is crispy and has a strong sweetness and umami of the green onions, without any unpleasant smell, making it very delicious. The udon is thin and flat noodles, I think? The noodles have a smooth and comfortable slurping texture, and although they feel slightly soft on the palate, when chewed, you can feel their elasticity. The gentle curry and the slightly soft noodles have a synergistic effect, making it a very easy-to-eat, gentle and comforting curry udon. Personally, I wanted a bit more soupiness in the curry, but it was delicious. With a rich variety of oden and a quick drink at night, it might be interesting to come here. Thank you for the meal.
