"I was greeted by a cheerful staff member saying 'Welcome! Please sit at any counter you like,' as I entered the restaurant. I chose a seat at the counter near the entrance, which had 10 seats, while the rest of the seating was at tables. It was midday on a weekday, so there were more business people dining alone than families or groups of friends. The katsudon was delicious as usual, but I always add a generous amount of shichimi spice until the katsu turns bright red, and sometimes I also add mustard for a change in flavor. I feel bad for altering the perfectly seasoned dish they serve, but I can't help myself from using up a lot of shichimi..."

I forgot the name and everything. It was probably around 1200 yen for a mixed platter. The crispy batter was delicious, but the squid was hopelessly unsuitable for frying. The tonkatsu and shrimp, on the other hand, were very tasty! The rice portion was also generous, so I recommend it.

The aged pork cutlet (120g) set meal costs ¥790. You can add miso soup for an additional ¥110 or cold tofu for ¥140, making the total ¥1,040 (tax included). The taste was delicious and satisfying with a good portion size. They provide special sauce, Worcestershire sauce, sesame dressing, and Japanese dressing on the table. The parking lot is spacious and easy to park. I would like to visit again.

Located along a national highway, this family restaurant specializes in tonkatsu. I ordered the Barley and Chicken Cutlet Set (950 yen). The set includes one piece of chicken cutlet, barley rice, miso soup, pickles, and tartar sauce. The chicken cutlet is thinly breaded and fried to a crispy perfection, providing a satisfying crunch. There are various sauces available on the table, allowing you to customize the flavor to your liking. The barley rice has a chewy texture that pairs well with the cutlet. After enjoying the fried dish and barley rice, I am already full. Thank you for the delicious meal! \(^o^)/

On Saturday, we stopped by Katsu-an Fukuchiyama branch for dinner on our way back from Kinosaki Onsen. It was me, my husband, and our hungry son. The restaurant was full and very busy. We ordered the Aged Roast Pork Special Katsu Don, Aged Roast Pork Miso Katsu Set, Aged Roast Pork Katsu Don, and Katsu Curry. My husband had the Katsu Don (large), I had the Miso Katsu Set, and our son had the Katsu Don and Katsu Curry. The portions were quite generous, especially the Katsu Curry which our son almost finished two servings of. It was dinner time and the restaurant was packed, with some tables having to wait quite a while for their orders. The prices were reasonable and we left the restaurant satisfied and full. We will definitely visit again. Thank you for the meal.

It's been a while since I visited Katsu-an... I had to do a double-take when I saw the side menu, Napoli-tan??? Unbelievable, Tonkatsu and Napoli-tan together! As a Napoli-tan lover, I couldn't resist ordering it. Despite being a side menu, it was quite a generous portion. The taste of Napoli-tan was nostalgic. It might have been a reckless amount to have Napoli-tan with a Tonkatsu set, but it was delicious and I enjoyed it.

There is a restaurant along Route 9, on the uphill side heading towards Kyoto. The parking lot has a unique shape but is quite spacious, so parking was not a problem. Inside the restaurant, there is a counter for solo diners on the left, and then there are booth seats like in a family restaurant. When you are seated, a tablet is presented to you for self-ordering by entering the number of your desired menu items. It seems like orders are processed based on when they are sent, rather than the order of entry. I hadn't visited this place in a while, but I was craving miso katsu so I decided to try it out. I have seen several places in northern Kinki serving miso katsu, but this one seemed closest to the Aichi style. The miso sauce here tasted a bit stronger than what Aichi residents are used to, but I like to sprinkle plenty of ground sesame seeds on mine. I was pleased to find ground sesame seeds provided on the table when I visited. There were also different condiments available on the table, including miso sauce. The dressing had a shiso flavor, but I prefer to drizzle miso sauce on my dish. The amount of green onions served seemed to have decreased compared to before. It seems like the restaurant is making small changes over time. Everyone has their own preference when it comes to green onions, but I think having a miso katsu topped with lots of green onions, like at the famous restaurant "Kurobutaya Lamchi" in Nagoya, would be great. It would be nice if they offered finely chopped green onions as a paid topping. Overall, I had a better impression of the miso katsu here compared to before. This is a rare restaurant in northern Kinki where you can enjoy Nagoya-style miso katsu. Thank you for the meal.

There are many chain restaurants like this recently. The Rosukatsu set meal is 690 yen (excluding tax). This might be a good deal. The meat quality was decent, with small streaks of fat, and it was juicy. It was fried to a light pink color, just right. I wish they had cut the fat a little better for a better texture. There was a little oil on the back, but it's not a problem. I thought the special sauce was delicious. The ground sesame was also good. It's a good match for the price, no complaints.

There is a restaurant along Route 9, on the uphill side heading towards Kyoto. The parking lot is a bit unusual in shape, but it is quite spacious and easy to park. Inside the restaurant, there is a counter for solo diners on the left, and box seats similar to a family restaurant. When you are seated, a tablet will be provided for self-ordering by entering the number of your desired menu items. It seems that orders are processed based on the order they are sent, rather than the order of entry. For my first visit, I ordered the pork cutlet bowl with 120g of meat. It arrived in just 5 minutes, which was fast, but I wished it was a bit more neatly presented. The taste was good, but the rice was just okay. It came with miso soup for 590 yen before tax. On my second visit, I tried the miso cutlet, opting for 120g of meat and a large portion of rice for an additional 100 yen. The meat felt small even with 120g, and the flavor was not very strong. The cabbage was too watery and lacked its usual flavor. On my third visit, the miso cutlet set was simpler, including rice, miso soup, and a small side dish for 790 yen before tax. With the large rice portion, the total came to 961 yen after tax. I felt that the cost-performance ratio was not great. If I were to visit again, it would be for a quick meal when I'm in a hurry, like before work.

Japan Delicious Food Tour. April 2020. No.961. Number of visits 1088. Today, I was in the mood for katsudon, so I visited this restaurant. I ordered the "120g Pork Cutlet Bowl" for 715 yen. Ordering is done on a tablet, so it's quite easy and casual. The taste was just average. It would be nice if they offered options for different sizes when you want a hearty meal. Thank you for the meal.

If you want to casually eat Katsudon, this place is a good choice. The Katsudon here has a rich flavor. The miso soup is also delicious. Since it's a Zencho Group restaurant, they have touch panel ordering and self-checkout. I recommend it for lunch. I'll come back here when I visit Fukuchiyama again.

Tonkatsu tends to have a slightly expensive image. However, surprisingly, I don't feel like going to a cheap tonkatsu restaurant. So, I never really went until now...I was pleasantly surprised by how delicious it was. And, of course, it's cheap! A 120g tonkatsu set meal costs around 750 yen. Even with black pork, it's only 1000 yen with change. The most surprising thing was the katsudon. The seasoning of the broth is great and very tasty. You can get a large serving for just over 800 yen. It's even cheaper than Yoshinoya's large serving with miso soup. A regular serving comes with miso soup for just one coin. It's a great price for everyday lunch options. Of course, it can't compete with tonkatsu from a regular restaurant that costs around 1500 yen, but considering it's half the price, I think the cost performance is better. And when it comes to katsudon, the broth and egg add-ons can cover up any shortcomings. The taste is definitely competitive. Thank you for the meal.
