The udon restaurant Omiya, which was previously located in front of the Motomoto Hospital in Takano, has reopened after 4 years. My parents, daughter, and I went there for lunch. We used to frequent this place as a family because we loved their nabeyaki udon. It was nostalgic and nice to be back after such a long time. The tables and chairs have been replaced, but the atmosphere remains the same. On the table, there were condiments like shichimi and ichimi, furikake for rice, and tenkasu for udon. We ordered the Kitsune Udon (sweet), which had a light broth and a familiar taste. The sweetness of the kitsune was subtle and refreshing. The Ooba Udon came with tempura chikuwa, shiso leaves, and nori. We also tried the Unagi Nabe, which was served piping hot with a side dish. The plastic ladle had a hook on it, so it wouldn't fall into the hot pot, which was reassuring. The nabe was filled with pieces of grilled eel, egg, grilled mochi, fish cake, shungiku, and trefoil. Each bite was full of eel, and the hot pot was satisfying. They also offer a half-and-half option with a daily special and both rice and udon. This restaurant only serves udon, no soba. You can get a large serving for an extra 100 yen, and they also have donburi, set meals, and affordable side dishes that would go well with drinks. Overall, it was a delicious meal at Omiya in Kyoto.
