I wanted to eat my favorite black bean daifuku, so I bought it at this shop I was curious about! The daifuku with plenty of plump Tanba black beans goes perfectly with warm tea, and I am very satisfied. The sweet red bean paste and black beans have a comforting taste. I would like to try different flavors as well.

I visited on a Thursday after the New Year's holiday. The street was quiet, but there were a few other customers. I bought two Danba black bean daifuku. They were sold individually for 200 yen each. Inside the daifuku, there is smooth red bean paste with plenty of whole black beans near the surface. The mochi is soft. Although they are a bit small, the combination of red bean paste and whole black beans makes them delicious. They also sold manju, so I bought some of those too. They were also sold individually.

I had some extra time after visiting Nara, so I decided to stop by Tanba-Sasayama Castle for a tour. While I was in the area, I heard about this popular place and decided to check it out. Even though the item I was looking for was sold out, I ended up trying the strawberry daifuku and cherry blossom mochi. It was my first time trying these spring treats, and they were delicious.

After lunch, I had some time before my train, so I decided to explore the area on my way to the station. That's when I came across a traditional Japanese sweets shop called Takumi. It's located just a 2-minute walk straight down the street from the station, on the first floor of a modern building. Inside, they had a variety of souvenir-like sweets and fresh sweets. I opted for some fresh sweets, including Snow Rabbit (220 yen), Tamba Black Bean Daifuku (200 yen), and Strawberry Daifuku (220 yen). When I got home, I tried them out. The Snow Rabbit, shaped like a rabbit, turned out to be a regular steamed bun, but the red bean paste inside was surprisingly delicious. The Tamba Black Bean Daifuku also had a tasty red bean paste, with a clean and straightforward flavor. The Strawberry Daifuku had delicious strawberries, almost overpowering the taste of the red bean paste. I think fruit-based steamed buns might be better with white bean paste to let the fruit flavor shine. Overall, the red bean paste in these steamed buns was delicious and surprisingly free of any unwanted flavors. I would definitely visit again if I have the chance.

July 2016 Taste: ★★★ Cost performance: ★★★ Shop: ★★★★ Likelihood to revisit: ★★★ Ordered: - Anko Daifuku (mochi with red bean paste) for 180 yen - Ohagi (rice ball with red bean paste) for 180 yen - Sobamanju (wheat cake with sweet bean paste) for 80 yen Taste: Overall, the sweets were small and cute in size. The ohagi had mochi inside, but the red bean paste was slightly too sweet. I would like to try it next time with a more bitter green tea. Cost performance: Prices were average for traditional Japanese sweets. Shop: I visited on a Saturday around 3 pm. There were no other customers at the time, but it seemed like the sweets were selling well. The shop itself had a new and clean appearance, which left a good impression. Likelihood to revisit: It's worth stopping by if you're in the area. I'm curious about their strawberry daifuku mentioned on their website. I might come back in winter.

This is a small and elegant traditional Japanese confectionery shop that opened about a year ago. It is run by a serious master and a polite young staff member. I tried their new creation, the chestnut sweet potato bun. It is a bun filled with whole chestnuts wrapped in their exquisite smooth sweet bean paste, coated with black sugar and mustard seeds to represent the chestnut. The taste is delightful, especially with the unique touch of the black sugar coating. I thought it would be perfect with a cup of light tea. It's surprising that such meticulous work is priced at only 250 yen. The shop uses locally sourced ingredients as much as possible, so I believe the chestnuts and red beans are from Kameoka. I introduced the chestnut sweet potato bun this time, but their usual offering is a slightly smaller ohagi. They wrap smooth bean paste in mochi rice, sprinkle a little kinako powder on top. They also have a version with chunky bean paste, but the elegant taste of smooth bean paste is exceptional. I confirmed with the staff that they do not add any salt to the bean paste, allowing the clean sweetness to shine through. Due to the small size of the shop and being run by only two people, the selection is limited. Be sure to visit early as the popular items sell out quickly. I highly recommend this shop to those who love traditional Japanese sweets.

Before encountering this shop, my go-to treat was always cake, but once I tried their sweets, I became addicted and now I visit the shop frequently. The red bean paste is absolutely delicious! It has a refined sweetness that makes it easy to keep eating. The shop seems to be very particular about the ingredients and methods they use, and their traditional Japanese sweets made with Tamba Dainagon and Tamba black beans are so carefully crafted that you can tell right away. I can't buy traditional Japanese sweets from convenience stores or supermarkets anymore (*´ω`*) Their recommended black bean daifuku is a blissful combination of soft mochi and whole black beans. The mochi is freshly pounded every morning with a mortar and pestle, so it's no wonder it's exquisite. I was surprised at how delicious black beans could be! Some of the treats I've tried include: - Ohagi with black bean kinako: The fragrant kinako adds a nice touch. - Honwarabi: A round warabi mochi filled with red bean paste. The way the warabi mochi melts on your tongue is amazing! - Mizuyokan: Smooth koshian with a refreshing texture, perfect for summer! - Shiratama zenzai: The chewy small beans with rich flavor are packed tightly! Not too sweet, so you can savor it slowly. - Amanka kanten: A jelly made with whole summer oranges. It looks very refreshing, and the ample fruit pulp and just-right sweetness are perfect for hot summers! - Minazuki: A summer staple in Kyoto. The chewy outer layer enhances the deliciousness of the Tamba Dainagon beans. Also available in brown sugar flavor. - Hydrangea: A cute purple hydrangea. The texture of the red bean paste and jelly inside is excellent! - Strawberry daifuku: Not available at the moment, but the fresh strawberry flavor complemented by the red bean paste is a popular choice. - Rokkaku yaki: A dice-shaped pastry filled with red bean paste! It's small but very satisfying. - Soba manju: It was my first time trying soba manju, and the aroma is very nice. The flavor of the red bean paste enhances the deliciousness even more. They also have several morning sweets and long-lasting products such as castella roll cake, dorayaki, wakaayu, mochi, yokan, rōgyū, and for reservations, jōyō manjū, sekihan, and isshō-mochi. I would love to try all of them someday♪ Located just a 1-2 minute walk from JR Mahori Station in Kameoka, known for its Torokko trains and Hozugawa River boat tours. There are benches inside and outside the shop, so it's perfect for a break while enjoying some sweets! There is also a small shrine behind the shop, creating a cool atmosphere during this season. Their products are also available at the "Tawawa Asagiri" direct sales store along National Route 9, making them a perfect gift that will surely be appreciated (*´ω`*) Although they have only been open for about six months, they are sure to become a staple in Kameoka, making it a must-visit shop! ※I hope to update the photos little by little when I can.
