A takeout specialty store next to the bus stop in front of Kyoto Station has been renovated to a spacious shop. It's fun to choose from various options while waiting for the bus. I recommend the curry bread with Kyoto-style shiba-zuke pickles inside. And the newly added suiki-filled piroshki. If you buy these two, then get a one-day bus pass and let's go! Where should we go sightseeing in Kyoto today? Personally, I recommend Seimei Shrine. Pass through the gate and the shrine office on the right, where the priest will listen to your life consultations without time limits. The offering is around 500 yen for school children on field trips, and adults can donate as they wish. My friend had their fortune told when they were born, and it was accurate for both of them - "this child will become a barber" and "this child will start cooking." When you're lost in life, consult with them and start fresh without the burden on your heart!

I love the bakery Shinshindo, located in the JR Kyoto Station (North) bus ticket center. The toast there is delicious, with a crispy texture and lightness that is perfect for a light meal. I particularly enjoyed the toast with the yellow label, which had a fragrant rye flavor and a nice crunch from sunflower seeds. The "Mixed Grain Life" toast is great for those who need more fiber in their diet, while the "Family Health" toast is a mix of 10 different grains and seeds like rye and sunflower seeds. Overall, Shinshindo is a great choice for those looking for healthy and tasty bread options.

I purchase from here 2-3 times a week. Today, I got the Ham Onion Kaiser (320 yen). It's very similar to a popular bread from another famous bakery, but even just the bread itself is delicious. Despite the seemingly simple ingredients, it tastes so good. The Sweet and Spicy Chicken Filet Burger is also very filling and satisfying. I will continue to come back here in the future!

Next to the regular bus pass ticket counter at Kyoto Station, there is a convenient store. The waiting room was crowded with people. I bought a French pastry, pirozhki, and uguisu beans. I couldn't wait and had the pirozhki first. It was filled with plenty of ingredients.

A good choice when you don't have time to eat a proper meal. The classic bread is delicious, but the pickled bread or bean-filled bread that focuses on Kyoto flavors don't have the same taste as other bakeries like Sizuya. If you love bread, be sure to visit Sizuya in Kitayama or Sanjo.

Located in front of Kyoto Station, inside the bus ticket center, there is a charming bakery with chairs where travelers can take a break. Where do your eyes go? Of course, to Croquant. Beyond its fluffy and bumpy appearance, the texture is delightful, the sweetness is just right, and it brings happiness to your mouth. The banana and walnut flavors also give you a boost of energy.

I stopped by when using Kyoto Station. The place is located in the Kyoto Station North Exit at the JR Bus Ticket Center in front of Kyoto Station. The shop has a small bakery-like atmosphere inside the station. I purchased a baguette that I had been curious about from another branch before. The baguette had a crispy crust and a fluffy, light texture inside, which was my preferred type of normal baguette. Since you can enjoy high-quality bread that is only available in Kyoto, it may be a good choice for souvenirs from Kyoto.

I returned to the Kyoto Station Karasuma Central Exit and revisited Shinshindo, where I discovered some new breads. I found the Italian national sweet "Pompoloni Mascarpone," the Kyoto-style "Shibazuke Curry Bread," and "Suguki Piroshki," as well as the "Black Shichimi Rusk" from Gen Ryo Kakko. I purchased them and tried them out. The Pompoloni Mascarpone has a fluffy texture with mascarpone cream, while the Shibazuke Curry Bread has a unique accent with its shibazuke pickle, making it delicious. I enjoyed the Suguki Piroshki and Gen Ryo Kakko's Black Shichimi Rusk.

We visited this place at 4:00 pm on the weekend. Despite being with a child, we had missed lunch and it was already this late. The child was hungry and tired, and with the train departure time approaching and the need to buy souvenirs, we needed to find a place to sit and eat quickly. We racked our brains in an unfamiliar city and came up with this place we stopped by when we arrived at Kyoto Station. It's located inside the JR Bus Ticket Center in Kyoto Station, which is a somewhat awkward location. It's not really a place where you can sit down and eat in a cafe style, but more like a spot where you can sit on the sofas in the waiting area and eat. It's a place for a quick break rather than a cafe to linger in, making it a hidden gem for when you just want to sit down and eat while traveling. The ordering process was face-to-face where you verbally tell the staff your order, and they prepare it for you. We ordered an Espresso for 340 yen (including 8% tax) and a Half Mix Sandwich for 360 yen (including 8% tax). I thought it was a Herb Mix Sandwich, which seemed unusual, but it turned out to be a Half Mix Sandwich. It consisted of egg, cucumber, boneless ham, tomato, and frill lettuce. It was 302 kcal in calories. We had it on the Shinkansen train. These kinds of sandwiches are usually made by a general food supplier rather than the actual store, but the sandwiches at Shinshindo are handmade at their own sandwich workshop! The fact that the seller's address and the manufacturing location are the same was surprising. My child ordered a Curry Cheese Wiener for 280 yen (including 8% tax), which sounded delicious with its combination of curry, cheese, and wiener. Even though I had only visited this Shinshindo and not other branches, it seemed smaller than I expected for a bakery quite famous in Kyoto. When you're short on time, it's really convenient. If this place wasn't here, we wouldn't have been able to give our child a break. It was a lifesaver.

This time it's a bread tour. Kyoto expedition edition. The place I visited was "Shinshindo". Along with Shitsuya, it is one of the representative bakeries in Kyoto. There are shops in various places in the city. Depending on the shop, it may be a cafe style or a restaurant style, but this one seems to be positioned as a simple bakery shop. The location was inside the bus ticket center in front of Kyoto Station, in a rather unusual place. The lineup of products and the way they are displayed give a somewhat stylish feeling compared to Shitsuya. From there, I chose: ・ Banana and Walnut Croquant (tax included 220 yen) ・ Zunda An Butter (tax included 220 yen) ◯ Food ・ Taste... It was much better made than I expected. I quite liked it. ・ Banana and Walnut Croquant It's a sweet bread like a cookie or brioche, with a sweet coating. The dough is filled with plenty of banana chips and walnuts, giving it a crunchy texture that is fun to eat. It makes you want to eat it with black tea. ・ Zunda An Butter A seasonal limited edition. A small bread with soft French bread kneaded with mugwort, filled with zunda an (sweet edamame paste) and butter. The strong green color matches the scent of mugwort and edamame. The combination of zunda an and butter is good, and if you like sweet bean paste, you won't be disappointed. ◯ Service... The items are in the showcase, so you specify and purchase from the staff. The selection of items seems slightly limited due to the location, but there was enough variety. ◯ Atmosphere... It's located inside the bus ticket center, but the interior is well-made and could easily be in a department store. While other bakeries in the station were crowded, this one was quiet and you could leisurely browse. A hidden gem? ◯ Cost performance... The main items are in the 200 yen range, so the prices are neither high nor low, but considering the quality of the bread, it was reasonably priced. ◯ Overall... The bread was well-made for the price, and the lineup had many attractive items, making it a good shop.

French Toast with Burnt Butter 290 yen

The croissants here are delicious, especially the larger ones. The French Toast with burnt butter was initially cut into 3 pieces, but it was so tasty that I ended up eating all of them at once.

In 1913 (2nd year of Taisho era), forgetting what is behind, earnestly moving forward towards the goal in Christ Jesus to obtain the crown of glory that God calls us to above (Philippians 3:13-14). The restaurant name originates from the chef's curry bread made without water, wrapped in homemade curry. They also offer a delightful rum raisin sandwich with soft French cream cheese and white chocolate ganache cream.

At the end of my trip to Kyoto, I stopped by Shinshindo to get some bread for takeout. I didn't have much time, so I quickly purchased it at the JR bus ticket center near the station. It was my first time buying bread here, and it was really convenient location-wise. I plan to have it for breakfast tomorrow! It was just before 6 pm, but there were still plenty of options in the showcase. I bought a Cream Cheese Walnut Bread (¥210) and an irresistible Rum Raisin Sandwich (¥290). When I got home, I couldn't resist and ended up eating them. Both were delicious, but the Rum Raisin Sandwich was especially good with its rich but not overwhelming rum raisin cream that paired perfectly with the bread! It was a bit small (lol). I wish I had also bought a curry bread or a sandwich. Well, something to look forward to next time!

I purchased the black sugar bread while waiting for the JR bus. The place was crowded with customers, and by the evening, many breads were sold out. The black sugar bread I tried had black sugar butter sandwiched between hard bread. The taste of black sugar was subtle, but I personally would prefer a stronger black sugar flavor. I wanted to try the rum raisin bread as well, but since I had already bought various breads from other bakeries during my day trip to Kyoto, I decided to pass on it this time.

In Kyoto, there are many bread shops that I had never heard of when I was in Osaka. One of my favorites is the tuna salad bread with shiso leaves. The tuna mayo inside is rich and goes well with the cheese and breadcrumbs on top.

I visited after a long time. Since it's inside JR station, if you go by bicycle, you have to push it and walk, or you'll be scolded. I bought the following bread: Premiere 4 slices for 260 yen, Chef's curry bread for 225 yen. The curry bread has a spicy curry flavor and is delicious. The bread was toasted and had a chewy texture, which was delicious. If it's too much trouble inside the station, it's convenient if there is a location in the bus terminal.

Before the state of emergency was declared, I had some errands in this area and decided to visit this bakery. Kyoto is known for its delicious bread, but it's hard to find a good bakery near the station (other places I wanted to go were closed that day). However, I wanted to try Shizuya and Shinshindo, so I visited this place!
I bought the "Daigomi" bread because it seemed popular and I also bought some sliced yokan, so I needed a good bread to go with it. The bread was quite dense and required a lot of effort to chew, not like the fine-textured high-end bread. It had air pockets and was a bit hollow in some places. The crust was elastic and chewy, with a strong wheat flavor.
I also tried making butter toast with the bread, and it was a game-changer! The bread became soft and chewy after toasting, and it paired perfectly with butter. It didn't seem to go well with sweet toppings, so I decided not to pair it with the sliced yokan. I then tried making cheese toast, and it was delicious as expected.
I also tried the chef's curry bread, which unfortunately was cold. The crust was crispy without being oily, and the bread was soft and chewy. The filling was like keema curry, but the pieces were large and satisfying.
Overall, the bakery had a good variety of bread, and I had a hard time deciding what to buy. I might try the cream bread and hard bread next time. Croissants are popular, but I don't usually eat them.

Kyoto is famous as a city of bread, with coffee and bread consumption ranking first nationwide. Surprisingly, Tokyo ranks 17th, with Kansai prefectures like Hyogo, Osaka, Nara, and Okayama following closely. In Kyoto, there are popular bakeries like Shizuya known for their croissants, Maruki Seipan known for their sandwiches, as well as long-standing establishments like Tamaki Tei and Puchimekku. Another renowned bakery in Kyoto is Shinshindo, known as the oldest bakery in Kyoto and for introducing authentic French bread to Japan. One of their branches conveniently located in Kyoto Station, inside the bus rotary, opens as early as 6:30 AM, making it a popular choice for many. They also serve coffee, adding to the convenience. I bought the famous Gotoh bread, a fluffy Yamagata-style bread, and paired it with handmade blueberry jam from Kako in Nagoya, creating a perfect breakfast. It was a delightful meal.

I watched a TV show featuring curry bread on a show called "Matsuko no Shiranai Sekai" and suddenly craved it, so I got takeout. The outside is crispy, and the curry inside is flavorful with plenty of filling, giving it a satisfying bite. It's priced at 225 yen each, which is reasonable. I'll try other bread next time.
