Hidden izakaya in a back alley in Nishi-Shinjuku. Located a little further back from the main street, this place had a long line of people on a Wednesday. I had made a reservation just in case, and it was definitely the right decision! It seems to be a very popular place, with groups of women, couples, and other customers enjoying their time there. [Ordered Items] Boiled tongue x 2 Dumplings that go well with drinks (12 pieces) Homemade corned beef potato salad Oomazakura chicken sashimi (thigh, breast) Rich sesame amberjack Rice topped with raw egg and flavored with mint lemon sour Simmered lemon sour This place seems to be related to Sawamaru in Kawagoe, as they also had the boiled tongue that was delicious! The tongue was so tender and flavorful, topped with plenty of wasabi. Definitely a must-try! The dumplings that go well with drinks were also a popular menu item. They were filled with plenty of vegetables and were delicious. The soy sauce and vinegar dispenser in the shape of a cat was cute! The potato salad was unique with plenty of corned beef and a soft-boiled egg on top. The chicken sashimi was fresh and delicious, with two types of meat - breast and thigh. The sesame amberjack was marinated in sesame soy sauce, and it went well with drinks. The rice topped with raw egg was a great way to finish the meal, with a punchy flavor that paired well with the egg. The cute presentation of the drinks also added to the fun atmosphere, and the service from the staff was excellent. Overall, it was a great time spent with friends, and I will definitely come back again!

I was seated in a private room and enjoyed the dining bar-like ambiance while savoring the dishes. The food, including the recommended domestic chicken meat juice grill, boiled tongue, and drinkable dumplings, is of high quality for izakaya dishes. The standout dish is the domestic chicken meat juice grill, which is incredibly tender and juicy. The flavor is spot on, with a soy sauce-based savory aroma that is irresistible. Paired with a Hakushu highball, it is a perfect match. If you want to have a lively and enjoyable time while also seeking satisfaction beyond typical izakaya fare, this place is a must-visit, even if you have to walk from the JR station. I made a reservation at 5:00 pm on a weekday and visited the restaurant. The dishes I ordered this time were boiled tongue, drinkable gyoza, corn tempura, fried eggplant with grated yam, and fig butter. The boiled tongue was recommended to be one piece per person, and it was so tender that it could be easily cut with chopsticks. It had a good amount of salt and pepper, but it was also great with wasabi. The drinkable gyoza had a chewy skin and a generous filling, with juicy meat overflowing, so it's best to eat it while it's hot. The corn tempura was light and disappeared quickly (lol). The fried eggplant with grated yam was delicious as expected, with the grated yam adding a refreshing touch. The fig butter had cinnamon on toast, so be careful if you don't like it. After a while, the butter melted and it was delicious. The fig's crunchy texture was also great. There were many types of alcohol, and even just lemon sour had a wide variety. It seemed that the restaurant was fully booked for reservations, as only one group without a reservation was allowed in. I was curious about the fact that the walk-in guests were seated inside, even though we were on the terrace this time. It wasn't too hot, but there wasn't much fan breeze in that area, which was a bit disappointing. The food and drinks were delicious, so I would like to make an early reservation next time.

I made a reservation two weeks ago but couldn't get a 5 pm slot, so I arrived at 4 pm. The time is strictly limited to 2 hours. We couldn't stay longer as the next reservation was at 6 pm. We tried the 3 popular dishes, salad, and corn tempura, all of which were delicious as reputed. There are various drink options available, making it suitable for everyone. I found the recommended Setoda lemon series to be just average in taste, but it's reassuring to know that it's pesticide-free and safe to drink with the peel. I recommend visiting if you have the chance.

This hidden gem of an izakaya is not just one notch above, but two notches above your typical adult drinking spot! Located in a back alley near Shinjuku West Exit, this place is so popular that it's almost impossible to get a reservation. The retro-chic interior with cute tile counters and lamps exudes a stylish vibe. The outdoor seating looks inviting too, with attention to detail in every aspect. They offer a wide selection of drinks including sours, beers, and wines, with a special focus on Setoda lemons. The lemon sours come in five different varieties, and I tried the simmered lemon sour while my friend went for the strongest lemon highball. The simmered lemon sour had a honey lemon-like flavor and you can even eat the lemon inside. It was sweet and had a strong lemon taste, which I really enjoyed. Highly recommended! The food menu may not have a huge variety, but they seem to know my taste so well that I had a hard time choosing. We ordered some appetizers and all three of their signature dishes. The shark cartilage with plum dressing, the cold dashi tomato with tomato stem like a hat, the hot and crispy corn fritters with butter soy sauce, and the incredibly tender boiled beef tongue were all outstanding. The beef tongue, in particular, was unbelievably tender and flavorful. The homemade wasabi on top was a perfect match. A must-try! The drinkable dumplings were perfect for pairing with drinks, and the juicy grilled chicken skewers were seasoned with homemade spices and cooked to perfection. The meat juice oozing out with each bite was a delight. We also ordered onigiri to finish off the meal, and it was the perfect way to end the night. The exterior and interior have a combination of a traditional popular izakaya and a modern bar atmosphere. The three specialty dishes were delicious. I finally had the chance to visit a restaurant I've always wanted to try. The interior was clean and divided into sections A and B, separated by doors. I was seated in section A, which had counter seats, while section B seemed to have private rooms. I ordered a variety of dishes, but here are a few highlights. The homemade corned beef potato salad was delicious. The corned beef was mixed into the salad from the start, and despite my initial concern about it being too salty, it was just right. It seemed like they had really put effort into finding the perfect balance of flavors. The recommended sesame amberjack was also tasty! The quality of the amberjack itself was good, and the sesame sauce was delicious! I couldn't help but keep eating it. The boiled beef tongue was hands down the best I've ever had at this restaurant. It was thick yet tender enough to be cut with chopsticks. When you put it in your mouth, it just melts. The broth was mild and comforting, with a hint of pepper adding a nice touch. I was personally delighted that you could add wasabi to it. I ended up getting seconds. The domestic chicken meat grill had a striking appearance. The staff would bring it to your table and cut the meat into bite-sized pieces for you. The taste was a basic oven-baked chicken, as expected, but when eaten alone, it was a great snack with drinks, and when paired with the silver rice ball set, it was a satisfying end to the meal. The staff's service was lively and attentive, making the atmosphere pleasant. I would definitely like to visit again if I have the chance.
