"TAREL" in front of Nijo Castle in Kyoto is a wine stand where you can enjoy coffee and wine from the morning. It is a stylish establishment with a glass door container, located a 7-8 minute walk from Karasuma Oike Station. Inside the container, there is a standing style setup, with a couple of small tables and around four chairs. There are also chairs and tables outside the store. Coffee is available for takeout. On this day, I visited for an aperitif and enjoyed "roast pork and fried egg," "homemade bread and butter," and wine. Thank you for the meal, including "Kuma Cola Nouveau 2021" from Yamada-Do (Yoichi, Hokkaido).

A mysterious shop near Nijo Castle, hidden in a back alley and made with containers. It's a bit tucked away from the main street, with some privacy screens, giving it a cozy hideaway vibe. It feels like a small cafe, with a focus on carefully brewed coffee and espresso, but it's also a rare place where you can enjoy wine from early in the morning. They open from 9 am to around 7 pm, making it convenient for a casual visit. The menu is limited as it's a small shop, but it's perfect for a light drink. I only had a quick glass of wine this time, but I'd like to try their coffee next time. This shop has only been open for a few years, but it seems like there has been a sudden increase in places offering natural wines in this area. It might be fun to casually hop around without a set plan and enjoy the different spots.

I found a place that serves wine from lunchtime, but when I searched for coffee, it came up, so I decided to check it out. Wine and coffee have similarities in terms of flavors, so I had high expectations. The shop was a bit hard to find and had a youthful vibe. Outside, five young men in their twenties were enjoying tasting different wines. It may be a bit intimidating for older customers, but I didn't let that bother me and went inside. The server informed me that there were many customers ahead of me, so it might take some time. I ordered a single espresso, made with beans from Style Coffee in Kyoto. The espresso had a fruity crema with a unique flavor that lingered in my mouth. The final sip, with a spoonful of sugar, added a chocolate-like sweetness to finish off the experience. The beans and the extraction method were both excellent, resulting in such a delicious taste. They also offer food at a reasonable price, so I look forward to trying it with my coffee next time.

Visited before 10 am on Saturday. There was one group of customers already there. Ordered and paid at the counter (PayPay accepted), then chose a seat. Opted for a terrace seat this time. It seems that indoor seating is limited to those drinking alcohol or solo customers. The staff brought the ordered items to the table, and it was fine to leave after finishing eating. Ordered two items this time: - Bread with butter (400 yen) with an additional fried egg (+100 yen). The bread was a chewy hard type with salted butter, simple and delicious. The fried egg was generously seasoned with pepper, which I personally enjoyed. - Oat milk latte (650 yen). I chose oat milk instead of regular milk, and it was pleasantly sweet without any strange aftertaste. You can even order wine or other alcohol in the morning. With the upcoming warmer season, I recommend the open and airy terrace seating.

Visited for the first time at around 15:40 on a Saturday in February 2022. "TAREL" is a shop located at the front of the "SHIKIAMI CONCON" complex tenant facility, which consists of 19 containers and 3 row houses in the southeast area of Nijo Castle, established in October 2019. They offer wine and coffee. Due to the pandemic, they were operating with shortened hours and alcohol service was suspended, so I ordered an espresso for 450 yen (tax included). The shop utilizes the space efficiently, with features like space under the chairs for storing personal belongings. The espresso was served after a short wait and it was delicious! I look forward to visiting again when they resume regular operations to try their wine as well. Thank you for the meal!

After leaving the soup curry restaurant and heading back to the coin parking, I took a different route and came across this place. The sign said wine, coffee, beer, food, so I decided to get an iced cafe au lait to enjoy on the way back in the car. Inside, some people were having a light lunch with a beer in hand. They also had a breakfast menu available. With a slightly bitter yet comforting drink as my companion, I headed back home.

A new facility with lined containers has opened. Among the offices, there is a shop where you can enjoy Van Nature and coffee. The owner with droopy eyes is very friendly, creating a cozy atmosphere. I intended to have coffee, but there were other things that caught my attention... There are also delicious-looking breads available. I ordered a Milk Factory Sora's Milk Piss for ¥750 and a bread for ¥300. The Milk Piss can be enjoyed in your preferred way, so I decided to have it with carbonation. It tastes like Calpis, but much better. While Calpis leaves a lingering sweetness on my palate, this one blends in smoothly. The bread normally comes in one variety, but this time it was a mix of two. The Pain de Campagne is high in hydration, soft and chewy, and very delicious. The Potato Focaccia has a slight crunch and is also very tasty. I ended up eating them without any spreads. The owner is a very fun person, and perhaps because of their personality, the other customers there were also very kind and enjoyable. Even though it was my first visit, I had a great time chatting with them. I look forward to coming back for scones and coffee next time.

A new spot called "TAREL" opened in October 2019 in the southeast area of the World Heritage site "Nijo Castle" in Kyoto, which has been gaining attention. It is a facility called "Kyou Sou Jichiku CONCON" where row houses and containers line up, and where creators' offices and shops gather. A board displayed a little further down the alley shows prices like "COFFEE 500 WINE 900 ~ Beer 500," and when you enter the shop, you will find a casual space utilizing containers. The owner, a man, handles everything alone, and the "Drip Coffee (500 yen)" that was ordered cash-on is made with lightly roasted beans from Honduras, with a moderate acidity and fruity taste that conveys the goodness of roasting and extraction. Next, the Alsace wine "Tutti Frutti Stefan (900 yen)" was explained to have a rich attack and flavor, with a lingering finish that leaves you feeling satisfied. The male owner used to be a sommelier with experience in the world of wine, and he is now honing his skills in the world of coffee at this new spot within "Kyou Sou Jichiku CONCON." It is said to be the only food and beverage establishment within the facility. The menu includes Drip Coffee for 500 yen, Espresso for 400 yen, Glass Wine starting from 900 yen, Bottle Wine starting from 5500 yen, Heartland small bottle for 500 yen, Cafe Latte for 550 yen, as well as limited food options like bread, scones, and cheese. For now, drinks seem to be the main focus. The interior of the shop is a compact space centered around the counter. Despite the possibility of a wait during busy times due to the one-man operation, it is a casual, authentic place full of the charm of natural wine and specialty coffee. It is conveniently located near Nijo Castle Mae Station, making it easy to stop by when visiting Nijo Castle. Takeout is also available in the shop, and the business hours are around 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM. This time, no rating is given, so please refer to the photos and text. I hope that many people will visit and enjoy it.

An open and pleasant space. The kitchen might actually be larger than the seating area. It seems like there is a variety of drinks available.

I had breakfast during my stay at Ace Hotel. The exterior is interesting, and the latte was carefully made and gentle. The bread is the type with a sour taste, which is not to my liking. I want to try the pate with wine at night!
