It's been a while since I visited Kyoto. Last time in March, I stayed from noon to night, but this time I will enjoy it to the fullest for 3 days. I went to Arashiyama on the first day, and today is the second day, returning from Mt. Hiei. I am wandering in the light rain looking for dinner. I stayed in Karasuma, so I thought of exploring the area, but it was difficult to find a good restaurant that I haven't tried before at night. While wandering, I happened to discover a restaurant. I saw a menu outside the restaurant, offering a night-only set meal for one person (1,210 yen) and a drinking set for one person (1,210 yen). Inside the restaurant, there was a gentle white incandescent lighting, white wooden furniture, and a small garden in the back. I sat at the large central table, sharing with someone but with enough distance not to be bothered. The staff were young. I ordered the set meal for one person. There were also tonkatsu, hamburger, and fried chicken, but the set meal was designed for those who really like to eat, as it allows up to 3 rice refills. The woman next to me ordered the changing set meal (1,210 yen) and was struggling with the grilled salted fish collar. After a while, the meal arrived. The side dishes were small chicken cutlets x 2. Salad, rolled omelette, vegetables similar to sunomono, pickles. As rice accompaniments, there were mentaiko, chirimen sansho, and simmered clams. I was happy with the variety of side dishes. I get excited when there are many small side dishes. The rice was a bit firm, probably because it's not the season for new rice, which is understandable. When I put chirimen sansho on the side dishes, it gives a taste of Kyoto. I can eat two bowls of rice just with the side dishes. It was a relatively light meal centered around vegetables.
