Visited in March 2023 ◎ At the time of posting, it had a rating of 3.21 on Tabelog (based on 45 reviews) ■ Goro Goro Seafood Black Curry with Fillet Cutlet Curry for 1,550 yen (tax included) Today, after work, I decided to casually have dinner at "Kyoto Katsuda Hile to Curry." It was my first time coming at night, and they were offering a special deal of "all-you-can-eat skewered cutlets & all-you-can-drink highballs" only at night! I wish they had beer for the all-you-can-drink option, but I decided to stick with the curry as planned. The limited curry for March was the "Goro Goro Seafood Black Curry," and I ordered it with an option of "Spice Chicken Curry" or "Western-style Curry." The "Goro Goro Seafood Black Curry" was a rich and sticky seafood curry with the umami of squid ink, squid, and clams infused into the sauce, which I quite liked. The chicken curry I paired it with was spicy and had just the right amount of heat, and mixing them together was delicious. The thick fillet cutlet was of such high quality that it felt almost wasteful to use it in the curry! Whether eaten with the curry or with the counter sauce poured on top, it was incredibly tasty. I also tried a bit of the pickled radish and carrot at the end, and it seemed like a good accompaniment for drinks as well. I'm also really curious about the "Curry Meat Soba" available on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday nights, so I definitely want to come back to try it. Thank you for the meal.

Today's dinner was at "Kyoto Katsuda Katsuzanmai" in Shijo Karasuma. I came here to eat some hearty katsu. I definitely wanted to try the pork katsu, beef katsu, and scallops, so I ordered the "Set Meal B" and the "Supreme Scallop". They fry it right in front of you. The set meal comes with unlimited rice, a red miso soup with curry, and pickled radish. First, I tried the pork katsu. I crushed some sesame seeds and mixed them with Worcestershire sauce to eat it. The pork katsu is about 60g each, so you get 3 small pieces. Next is the vegetable katsu. I ate the carrots as they are because they are sweet. I dipped the eggplant in sauce before eating it. Then, I tried the scallop katsu. It was so tender and delicious. Next is the "ultimate egg" (half-cooked egg). It's from some brand of eggs, apparently. They said it's delicious to put it on top of rice and pour curry over it. Please have some more rice. I followed their suggestion and it was delicious. Finally, I tried the beef katsu. I didn't have high expectations for beef katsu, but this one was rare and delicious. Thank you for the meal.

I was invited for lunch on my way back. Last time, I had the Spicy Chicken, but today I had the European-style Pork Curry. The curry sauce was on the watery side. Personally, I think I prefer this over the spicy one from last time. It was delicious.

The day after staying in Kyoto, we had appointments near Shijo Kawaramachi. After finishing the morning visit, we settled some office work at a cafe. Then, we visited a restaurant that caught our eye earlier in the morning. We arrived right at opening time, sat at the counter, and ordered the Special Pork Cutlet Curry A (tax included 1,500 yen). You can choose the amount of curry and rice, and I opted for medium spiciness. I chose the curry sauce with spiced chicken (there is also a European-style pork option) and a regular portion of rice (other options include small, large, and extra-large). The pork cutlet was fried perfectly, tender and delicious. In dish A, fried eggplant and spinach were included. While I may have preferred the European-style curry sauce, the balance and quality of the pork cutlet curry were quite high. Exploring restaurants in Kyoto is enjoyable! 😊

This is a small curry restaurant along Karasuma Street with only counter seating. I stopped by for lunch on a Saturday. You can choose the type of curry roux and the amount of rice. It specializes in katsu curry, so I had high expectations, but both the curry and the katsu lacked distinctive features, which was a bit disappointing.

This is my first visit. I had dinner and the seating was only at the counter, making it easy for even one person to enjoy a quick meal. There were two types of curry sauce, various toppings to choose from, and you could add extra toppings. Although the limited menu looked tempting, I decided to try the classic dish since it was my first visit. It was delicious!

A shop facing Karasuma Street. It seems quite popular with a lot of people. Although the curry is a bit pricey, it comes with plenty of delicious cutlets. The large serving of rice and 4 pieces of cutlets are quite filling, satisfying your stomach. The crispy freshly fried cutlets and the flavorful curry are a perfect match. It's just right for an occasional lunch.

Today, I had work in Kyoto at Shijo-Karasuma, so I decided to recharge my energy with a meal. I went to Kyoto Katsuda Hire to Curry, a specialty shop known for their unusual Hire Katsu Curry. It was my first time hearing about a specialty shop like this. The restaurant was almost full, and it seemed like they were also attracting inbound customers. I ordered the normal Hire Katsu Curry with Spicy Chicken curry sauce and extra rice. The dish arrived in just 5 minutes. The curry and rice were served separately, with 4 pieces of tender Hire Katsu to enjoy with the sauce and curry. The curry had a thin consistency, starting off sweet and gradually becoming spicy. It was quite spicy, which I found perfect for early summer. I opted for extra rice, but I felt like there wasn't enough curry to go with it, so I regretted not choosing the regular portion. The Fukujinzuke (pickled vegetables) had a tangy flavor and was delicious. It was clear that they were prepared in-house. Overall, for 1300 yen, the meal had good value, depending on your preferences. I had a rare opportunity to go out for work and had lunch at a restaurant called Kyoto Katsudahire and Curry-san. I had the spicy curry, which came with delicious pork cutlet on top of the rice. The visual presentation was nice. The meat was tender and tasty. I poured the curry generously over the rice. It was a watery type of curry, not too spicy, and very delicious. The restaurant is located on Karasuma Street and was full of people, indicating its popularity.

I had been interested in a katsu curry restaurant that I had seen on Instagram for a while. Since I occasionally visit the Karasuma area, I was curious about the new restaurant there. However, I usually wait a bit before going to a new place as it tends to get crowded at first. I arrived around 11:30 and was the first to be seated. The restaurant had only counter seats, which I personally like as you can see the dishes being prepared. I was taught how to choose the curry, and then waited for it to arrive. It took about 5 minutes for the curry to be served. The curry came with the sauce on the side, so I had to pour it over to complete it. I decided to add shrimp fry as a topping this time. I usually like thick-cut tonkatsu when I order it, around 200 grams, so I wished there was an option for a larger portion here. The base was 120 grams, and I could add an extra 60 grams, which I chose to be spice chicken. I am also interested in trying the European pork next time.

Hot Kyoto is all about curry. This place specializes in pork cutlet curry. They also offer ramen dishes for dinner. I chose the special pork cutlet curry set for 1500 yen. It comes with a soft-boiled egg, eggplant, and spinach. You can choose between two types of curry sauce: spicy chicken or Western-style pork. I chose the chicken. You can also choose the amount of rice you want. I chose the regular portion. The pork cutlet was very tender and delicious, perfect with the curry. The sauce was spicy but balanced by the sweetness of the vegetables. It had a sweet and spicy taste. Personally, I would prefer a bit less sweetness. At the end, they served a mini yogurt to refresh the palate.

I was drawn in by the warm curtain and couldn't resist the temptation of the katsu curry. Instead of adding various toppings, I decided to go for the special pork cutlet curry (C) with extra pork cutlet, spicy curry, and a large portion (free of charge). The pork cutlet was cooked just right and the curry, despite not being too spicy or hot, was delicious. Personally, I prefer the regular pork cutlet curry from a typical tonkatsu restaurant, soba restaurant, or set meal restaurant. Overall, it was a satisfying meal.

Located right near the Karasuma Oike Station, there is a restaurant called Hire to Curry-san. As the name suggests, this is a place where you can fully enjoy Hire Katsu Curry. They offer special sets with toppings, labeled A to C, each with different toppings. The C set has an extra portion of Hire Katsu, increasing it from 4 pieces to 6 pieces. You can choose between a spiced curry or a Western-style curry, and this time I chose the classic Western-style. The curry had a fruity sweetness to it, which seemed to be well-liked by many. The Hire Katsu was fried to a nice crisp, giving it a satisfying texture. It's recommended to mix it well with the curry and egg. They also provide Tonkatsu sauce and pickles on the table for flavor variation. In addition to curry, they offer a night-only all-you-can-eat Hire Katsu skewers, which is also intriguing. This is the perfect place to fully enjoy Hire Katsu. Thank you for the meal.

I used it around 8:30 pm. It was not crowded. I had the Bamboo Course (skewers and highballs all-you-can-eat) for 2,200 yen. The last order was at 20:45, but the skewers came out quickly so I was able to enjoy them fully. I had 20 skewers and 3 highballs, and my stomach was full. Thank you for the meal♫

I visited the restaurant on Saturday afternoon. It was quite crowded even before opening, indicating its popularity. The interior was all counter seats, with around 20 seats. It was quite narrow and the distance between people was close, but it's understandable considering the high land prices in the area. The menu mainly consisted of pork cutlet curry, but there were also options like cutlet sandwiches and limited-time curries. Toppings were also available. I tried the limited-time curry for April, which was a pork cutlet and chunky beef spicy curry. It wasn't too spicy, and the cutlet was freshly fried and very delicious. The staff also thanked me politely at the end, leaving a very good impression. Thank you for the meal.

A katsu curry specialty shop located just down the street from Shijo Karasuma. I ordered the squid ink seafood curry and the mixed spice curry with fillet katsu curry with a side of coleslaw salad. I opted for a small portion of rice, but ended up with two servings of coleslaw salad. The fillet katsu was cooked in a large shiny copper pot, with a slightly rare and moist texture, but cooked perfectly through and juicy. The curries themselves were delicious, with the squid ink curry having a strong seafood flavor and the mixed spice curry with lots of vegetables. They also have an all-you-can-eat kushikatsu deal at night, so I plan to revisit.

I tried the special curry at a popular curry and cutlet restaurant that opened last year. Despite it being almost full towards the end of lunchtime, I was able to fully enjoy the satisfying feeling of "I just ate some great cutlet!" The appearance was impressive, and the taste lived up to it. However, I couldn't help but wonder about the trend of curry specialty restaurants in recent years, where each place has a unique and special atmosphere. It was still really good though.

They also offer a night limited all-you-can-eat kushikatsu & highball for 1,900 yen, providing a variety of options. The curry katsu with pork tenderloin came with 4 pieces of tender meat and a choice of spicy chicken or European-style pork curry. The curry was slightly sweet with a good spice level, and the chicken was served with nuts (not very noticeable). The tenderloin was soft and the Japanese-style pickles added a nice touch. The meal ended with yogurt for a refreshing finish.

Special Pork Cutlet Curry B 1,500 yen Spicy Chicken Curry with free extra rice Arrived on a Saturday night before 8 pm. Before heading to Shijo, it's dinner time. The basic dish is the Pork Cutlet Curry (1,300 yen), with the difference being the toppings. The menu includes the Pork Cutlet Curry, Special A, Special B, and a monthly limited edition curry. This month's limited edition curry is the "Mushroom-filled Pork Cutlet Curry Udon." Looks delicious. Special A includes a soft-boiled egg, eggplant, and spinach. I don't like eggplant, and I love sausages, so I chose B without hesitation. The pork cutlet is fried right in front of you! It's cut and served on the plate right after frying. The curry sauce arrives without delay. The pork cutlet is cooked perfectly! Slightly pink in the center, just the way I like it! The pork cutlet is seasoned with pepper and I took a bite as it is! Quite juicy and tender! I debated whether to pour the curry sauce over it or dip it, but I didn't have much time, and I wanted to melt the cheese, so I just poured it over! The curry is not very spicy but has a strong taste of spices. Delicious! At some point, I realized I had too much rice left, so I added some pickles from the table, which were like a must-try delicious addition! It goes really well together! Really delicious! Probably daikon radish, carrot, and lotus root! Finally, at the end of the meal, you get a small bite-size yogurt as a palate cleanser. It's time to bring the small number tag in front of you to the entrance for payment! All for 1,500 yen, easy payment. Thank you for the meal!

I was on a business trip in Kyoto and found this restaurant near my hotel. The smell coming from the restaurant was so inviting that I decided to go in. It turned out to be a tonkatsu curry restaurant, with only "hirekatsu" (fillet cutlet) available. The main menu was the "hirekatsu curry," with the option to add toppings. I ordered the "special hirekatsu curry A," and chose the spicy curry sauce. The hirekatsu wasn't anything special, but with the toppings added, it became the "special" dish. The hirekatsu was fried right in front of me, and it was delicious! In Osaka, they say "herekatsu" instead of "hirekatsu," but in Kyoto, it's "hirekatsu." The special hirekatsu curry arrived, and I poured the curry over it and dug in. The freshly fried cutlet was indeed tasty! I then added the sauce and it was even better! The fried eggplant on the side was a perfect match for the curry. I'm glad I followed the enticing smell and tried this place. To top it off, they even offered complimentary yogurt at the end. It was a satisfying meal!

At Bukkoji Temple in Karasuma, I had the "Katsuda Hire and Curry" for a meal. This curry restaurant only has L-shaped counter seats. I ordered the Special Hire Katsu Curry A (1500 yen including tax), which comes with 120g of hire katsu, half-cooked egg, eggplant, and spinach. You can choose between two types of curry roux: Spice Chicken or European-style Pork. You can also choose the rice portion size: small, regular, large, or extra large. The large portion is free, while the extra large is an additional 130 yen. I chose the Spice Chicken curry with a regular rice portion. The curry is served separately in a roux pot. The hire meat was tender and delicious. The Spice Chicken curry had a nice level of spiciness and a rich flavor with a slightly tangy aftertaste. The eggplant was large and deep-fried. I found out later that you can get a free second serving of hire katsu.
