I can only meet Toraya at Haneda Airport or in the streets of Sapporo. I always want to visit the store properly, but when I come across it while traveling, I end up buying it anyway. I usually enjoy it alone as a reward for myself. I like to buy 6 pieces and have them put in a plastic case as a souvenir, but my favorite is the classic "Yoru no Ume". The ingredients are only sugar, red beans, and agar. Simple and wonderful! Next, I choose "Omokage", which contains sugar, brown sugar, red beans, and agar. It's satisfying to eat slowly but all at once. Even if I were to develop diabetes, I can't stop eating them.

I received a Valentine's gift, thank you for the treat. Established during the Muromachi period, the reaction back then must have been like, "They're really going for it!" I enjoyed the Night Plum flavor of Ogura Yokan. Yokan is truly a profound cultural experience. Thank you for the Yokan from Toraya! (^^)v

I received some yokan. Was life as I had hoped? I truly think I am a lucky person. From the outside, it may seem that way. Of course, that may be a sarcastic view. I heard that suicides are increasing, especially among women. Is it because there are no jobs due to the pandemic? When in trouble, just ask for help, right? Choosing death is not the answer. Look at me. You'll feel a little relieved. How much am I disliked? I have no friends and if I die... that would be bad. My belief is that if you die before 70, you lose. Even if you live past 85, you still lose. Don't lose!! Young people, even if someone calls you a fool, how do you connect that to yokan? That's why people don't want to die. I don't care if there is no yokan in the world, but I need to eat it to write. I don't mind, but at least provide a plain flavor. Can't you offer something like green tea or honey? What is "omokage"? Maybe plum flavor? The only decent one seems to be plain.

I purchased snacks near Daimon Station at Mitsukoshi! I brought them to the company ^_^ The red bean paste in the night plum yokan is shaped like a blooming plum in the darkness of the night. This is delicious! The new green yokan was originally said to contain chlorophyll and vitamin B, but now it uses matcha, giving it a natural tea aroma and bitterness. It's really good! Of course, it's Toraya's yokan. The deliciousness is uncompromising. Even a big piece is satisfying (´∀`) Eating a whole Toraya yokan for Setsubun. What a wonderful dream! Just be sure to chew well so you don't choke! LOL Eating yokan secretly at work is also a luxury. Thank you for the meal! ^_^

On a certain holiday, while walking around the city, I stopped by at Toraya, located on the 2nd basement floor of Mitsukoshi. Toraya is well-known for its traditional Japanese sweets, especially yokan. The store had a wide selection of products, and I decided to try a few items that caught my eye that day. The "Zangetsu" (280 yen) had a thin dorayaki-like crust that was intentionally firm, with a strong flavor of ginger sugar on the surface, complemented by the moderately sweet red bean paste inside. The "An'yaki Kurozato Kakao" (220 yen) surprised me with its moist cocoa sponge cake and the subtle flavor of black sugar. The "Wasanbon Dayori" (300 yen) turned out to be a cup of yokan with a gentle sweetness of wasanbon sugar, reminding me how much I enjoy its sweetness. Lastly, the "Rum Raisin Yokan" (240 yen) had a pleasant texture and a hint of rum raisin flavor that enhanced the overall taste of the yokan. Overall, these refined sweets from Toraya were delightful. It would be great if they were priced at half the cost for everyday enjoyment. Thank you for the meal.

I'm at the 2nd floor of Sapporo Mitsukoshi Depachika... I'm wandering around in search of something sweet. I decided to try "Toraya"... a long-established store with elegant service. I look inside the display case... everything is quite pricey and it's hard to decide. I ended up getting the Bamboo-Wrapped Sheep's Milk Jelly, 1 piece for 3,240 yen. Wasn't sheep's milk jelly supposed to be more common? As I look at the jelly, I remember the story of Yuichiro Miura who attempted to climb Mount Everest at an old age. They say sheep's milk jelly is the best portable food for climbing. Anyway, I bring it home and slice it. I'm not really good at judging the quality of sheep's milk jelly, but I can tell it's smooth and has an elegant sweetness. It would be nice to have it with some strong tea. By the way, the drink of the day was whiskey on the rocks. Bon appétit!

Mother's Day is always a time of indecision when it comes to what to give as a gift. Clothes, accessories, etc... What would make her happy? I decided to ask directly and got the response, "I want to eat delicious Japanese sweets." So, I went to the department store where I found a variety of Japanese sweets for Mother's Day. I decided to go for high-quality yokan from the famous shop "Toraya". They had a yokan with a design of carnations called "Small Yokan Night Plum" and "Mizu Yokan Honzen". There was also an option to create a custom assortment by mixing Mother's Day products with regular items. I ended up getting an original assortment with different flavors like black tea, honey, and matcha. I also bought a small yokan "Night Plum" and "Black Tea" for myself. It had been a while since I had Toraya's yokan, and the taste was elegant. The azuki beans used must be of high quality. The "Black Tea" flavor had a subtle tea aroma. Even though it's yokan, the tea flavor wasn't overpowering. It was a nice change to enjoy Japanese sweets once in a while. Later, I treated my mother to lunch at the hotel restaurant without taking photos of the food out of consideration for her. We had a pleasant time chatting and catching up. I felt like I had finally shown some filial piety! (laughs)

I came to Sapporo and headed to Sapporo Mitsukoshi on Odori Avenue. It was my first time here. Of course, Toraya was ready and waiting. I looked around and found a cute pink mochi with white bean paste inside called "Miyako no Haru." It cost 194 yen including tax. Before buying it, I thought Toraya was a bit expensive, but when I tasted it, the bean paste had a good flavor and the sweetness was just right. Eating just one gave me a sense of satisfaction and left a good impression. Thank you for the delicious treat! Release date: November 2015. Nankaihawks1's Gourmet Guide. Located about a 1-minute walk from Otorii Station (subway). Please refer to the map on "Tabelog" for the exact location. O-Kura Yokoan (Yoru no Ume). When it comes to yokan, the image of Toraya is strong. One piece for 3000 yen...! I estimated that yokan would cost around 1500 yen at most, so well... The taste is sophisticated. Truly worthy of 3000 yen. I visited around 2 pm and almost all products were available.

In July 2012, when it comes to yokan (sweet bean jelly), everyone knows about Toraya. This traditional Japanese confectionery shop has been around since the Muromachi period. In Hokkaido, they have two stores in department stores - Koko-san and Marui Imai Sapporo Main Store, both part of the MI Group. I visited the store at Marui Imai Sapporo Main Store in Sapporo's Chuo Ward. They had seasonal sweets like mizu yokan (jelly) which is perfect for the hot summer. I was torn between buying mizu yokan or yokan, but ended up choosing the latter. In a corner of the yokan section, there were seasonal yokan varieties that I hadn't seen before. One caught my eye with its beautiful appearance - the limited edition Aoume no Tsuyu yokan. It had a green transparent agar jelly on top and chopped green plums in the yokan below. The plums were sweetened with honey, creating a perfect balance of tartness and sweetness. Chilled just right, it was a delightful treat for the summer. The medium size (390g) cost 1953 yen, making it a reasonable choice in terms of size and price. The color of the yokan appeared differently depending on the angle and lighting, adding to the visual appeal. It's a yokan that you can enjoy with your eyes and your taste buds, allowing you to experience the four seasons of Japan through sweets. Japanese confectioneries have a calming effect and are a delicious treat. In Hokkaido, Toraya is synonymous with yokan. As for tigers, it used to be the Giants in baseball, but now it's the Fighters. There's less anxiety with the Tigers in Hanshin. For my generation, Tiger Mask might come to mind. I had a friend in the judo club in school named Daiko, who was excellent at shoulder throws. He was invited to join the police force due to his judo skills, but I'm glad he didn't become a police officer.

I bought the famous Toraya yokan for the first time. I usually prefer mizu yokan over regular yokan, and I had been avoiding Toraya yokan because it looked very rich in color and seemed like it would be overwhelmingly sweet. However, while shopping with a friend in Sapporo, she suggested buying this yokan, so I thought, "It's sad not to try such a famous item." I bought the medium-sized Yoru no Ume yokan (1533 yen). The staff said it is their most popular item. Normally, a yokan of this size would cost around 700-1,000 yen. The cost-performance ratio is a bit high, but not outrageously expensive. It is a red bean yokan with a cut that resembles plum blossoms in the darkness of night. When cut, you can see the red beans at the edges. It has a chewy texture, not too sweet, and a refined taste. It was indeed delicious. I enjoyed it with strong green tea, and my family loved it too. According to their website, it is low in fat and high in sugar, making it a good quick energy boost. It provides a satisfying feeling shortly after eating. If you can't order it online due to shipping costs or large quantities, it might be nice to buy one when passing by the store occasionally.

My parents sent me a small-sized yokan in a Tiger Year package from Toraya. It's convenient for me as I live alone. I tried the cute tiger design with matcha flavor. I don't usually crave yokan, but it's good to have on hand for those moments when I do.

I received a gift from the parents of my eldest daughter's husband! It's a set of one-bite size yokan from Toraya - "Yoru no Yume" (Night Dream), "Shinryoku" (New Greenery), and "Omokage" (Reminiscence). Yoru no Yume has beautiful red bean grains, Shinryoku has a scent of matcha, and Omokage uses black sugar. They all have a very elegant taste! The yokan can be stored for a long time, even after the expiration date. I will enjoy them slowly. Thank you for the meal!

This is a gift from a company. It's a traditional Japanese confectionery shop that has been around since the Muromachi period. It's "Toraya" yokan. You can buy it at Mitsukoshi and Marui Imai in Hokkaido. Let's review it at the Mitsukoshi store. It comes in a small box. Could it be based on the zodiac sign? The illustration is of a white dog maybe? There were three types: Night Plum (red bean yokan), Fresh Green (matcha yokan), and Omokage (brown sugar yokan). I'm not a big fan of yokan, but I'll try the red bean yokan since it's a special occasion. It's been a few years since I last had yokan. It has a very refined sweetness... Or is it really?

In April 2017, I received a gift of assorted yokan from Toraya from an acquaintance. The solid black box exudes a sense of luxury. Inside, there were various flavors of yokan including "Yoru no Ume" which has red beans that resemble plum blossoms blooming at night. It was a delightful experience savoring these yokan while thinking about the imagery behind them. Thank you for the delicious treat.

The night plum and Omokage from Toraya were both subtly sweet, with a balanced taste and a moist, rich texture that embodies the modesty of traditional Japanese sweets and the sophisticated techniques of Toraya's long history of making yokan. It was a perfect yokan to enjoy with tea. I tried it with wine, but the combination felt a bit off. Overall rating 3.1 Taste 3.1 Service - Atmosphere - Value for money - Drinks - Location Sapporo Mitsukoshi B2F Toraya Sapporo Mitsukoshi store ☆☆☆ Next episode preview ☆☆☆ I don't think I would buy it with my own money.

I received this as a souvenir. I have bought souvenirs for others before, but this is the first time I've received one for myself. It can be quite expensive, right? It's a small box of red tea-flavored yokan in stick form. Yokan is very sweet, so I can't eat a lot at once, and these individually wrapped ones are convenient. There's no need to cut them. It says it's red tea-flavored, but I don't really taste the red tea. It's just a faint aroma. It has an elegant sweetness that goes well with Japanese tea.

This is a review of Toraya's small-sized yokan. We don't eat yokan often at home. I have purchased Goshikiteiya yokan in a mini round can before because it seemed fun to push out and eat, but I have never bought Toraya's yokan myself. A large yokan is hard to finish in one go, but the small-sized yokan is 50g per piece (260 yen), so I am happy that I can open and eat just the amount I want. - Small Red Bean Yokan: The name seems to be derived from the fact that the cut surface of the red beans at night resembles the faintly blooming plum flowers in the darkness of the night. I didn't pay close attention to the words "small red bean yokan," so until I opened it, I thought it was a plum-flavored yokan. - Matcha Yokan: It has a slight taste of fresh greenery and matcha. Personally, I found that the matcha flavor was not as strong as I had expected. I cut each piece in half and enjoyed it with a strong Japanese tea. In September, there was a yokan inspired by the full moon season. I wanted to buy it for my mother who loves yokan, but it was already sold out when I visited. I hope to buy a seasonal yokan someday.
