The heat in Kyoto is unbearable! The heat makes you thirsty quickly haha. While shopping, I saw a sign that caught my eye, so I headed in that direction. Just a little off the main road, there were several newly opened shops lined up. Even though the main street was crowded with people, I was surprised to find this area just 10 meters away so quiet! There were a few different shops, including restaurants and souvenir stores. It was quite difficult to find information about these shops online, and even registering them was a struggle. It was unusual not to find any hits on the internet for such a new place in Arashiyama. Maybe that's why it was so quiet there? My mother just wanted to sit in the shade and smoke a cigarette, so we took a break. I was craving something cold, so I looked at the shops and saw a group of boys coming out of the one closest to us. They were raving about how delicious the food was, so we decided to try it out. The staff told us that the boys had actually been eating negiyaki, not ice cream, but we went for ice cream anyway. The shop had a counter where you could sit and enjoy your treat. They had a variety of ice cream flavors, but I chose the blueberry cheesecake in a cone for 300 yen. The ice cream was served in a large waffle cone, and the flavor was rich and delicious. The cheesecake flavor was strong, and the blueberry added a nice tanginess. The waffle cone was also flavorful and complemented the ice cream well. The shop, West Park, had a comfortable bench in the shade with a nice breeze, making it a pleasant place to relax. My mother was happy to be able to smoke without worrying about bothering others. However, the quietness of the area on a weekend in Arashiyama was a bit concerning. It would be great if they could promote the shop more and provide more information online. I managed to find the address and register the shop, so hopefully they will do well.
