I haven't visited Kyoto recently, but when I came, I was surprised! Both Arashiyama and Pontocho were overflowing with tourists from overseas. There were people from France, Germany, India, Korea, China, America, and many other countries, and I enjoyed observing them. It felt like being abroad while still in Japan, a kind of away game feeling (lol). I visited a okonomiyaki restaurant in Pontocho, Kyoto. I wonder if this restaurant Yasubee is featured in foreign guidebooks? There was a line of tourists waiting. There were no Japanese people around - haha. After waiting for about 40 minutes, I finally entered the restaurant. The atmosphere was nice. It seemed like smoking was allowed, but no one was smoking, which was a relief. The staff asked if I needed an English menu, but I said Japanese was fine, finding it amusing to be asked that. I waited for the food to be served. The dishes were cooked in the kitchen and placed on the hot plate in front of me, so I enjoyed them hot and fresh. I ordered bean sprout kimchi, okonomiyaki, yakisoba, and negiyaki. They were all delicious, but the yakisoba was especially tasty. The food was great, and the lively atmosphere made it a fun experience. ^^

I ordered: - Yasubee Yaki (¥1,350) - Beef tongue and Kujo Negi stir-fry (¥990) - Garlic sauce yakisoba (¥1,100) - Mentaiko mochi cheese (¥1,100) The most popular Yasubee Yaki was amazing, with a half-cooked egg inside the okonomiyaki. I topped it generously with Kujo Negi. The garlic sauce yakisoba was so delicious that it became addictive. Even though Pontocho has a high-class image, Yasubee has a casual atmosphere that is easy to enter.

Visit date: September 2022, holiday, 6:00 PM Number of visitors: 2 people Amount spent: Around 3000 yen per person, 1 drink No reservation (no reservation system) No bicycle parking No car parking Atmosphere: Good for 2 to 6 people, not suitable for children, not suitable for large groups A lively okonomiyaki restaurant with an English menu. Seating: 4 tables for 4 people, 1 table for 6 people I went with a friend to have some okonomiyaki and drinks while enjoying a lively atmosphere. After researching, we decided to go to this place in Pontocho that seemed to have a nice ambiance. Since there was no reservation system, we went directly to the restaurant. We arrived at 6:00 PM, thinking that it was still early and we would be able to get a table easily. However, the restaurant was full, with a wait of 2 groups ahead of us, so we ended up waiting for about 30 minutes. The turnover seemed fast at this time, but by 7:00 PM or 8:00 PM, as people started drinking, the pace slowed down. Even while waiting in line, the smell of the sauce tempted those who had not yet decided on a restaurant to check out the menu or join the line. The menu ranged from okonomiyaki to negiyaki and other side dishes. The teppan grill was on the table, but instead of cooking it ourselves, the staff brought the cooked food to us, and we could add our own sauce and enjoy. The restaurant had a clean exterior, but inside, it had a lively and welcoming atmosphere that made you forget you were in Pontocho, in a good way. Eating okonomiyaki while pouring beer is the best. Being able to adjust the mayo sauce and other toppings yourself was nice. We ended up ordering too much and were stuffed, but since it's flour-based, it wasn't too expensive, and we had a good time. The taste of okonomiyaki can vary, but it was a comfortable place to spend time. The staff were kind and friendly, and they recommended how to eat the dishes. It was delicious, and I will definitely come back.

Okonomiyaki with beef tendon and konjac. Yakisoba with pork. The okonomiyaki has small pieces of tendon and konjac, not too fluffy but slightly firm. The yakisoba has small ingredients. The teppanyaki grill is hot, so you can quickly make crispy edges, which is nice. They are conscious of infection prevention by directly pouring sauce, bonito flakes, and seaweed instead of using a brush or spoon.

Today was Coming of Age Day. I was shopping around the Shijo Kawaramachi area and it was already 4:00 pm. I was looking for my first meal of the day, either soba, sushi, or eel, but I was turned down multiple times. Eventually, I ended up in Pontocho looking for something junky to eat, and visited the okonomiyaki restaurant "Yasubee." I ordered raw okonomiyaki as a starter, along with grilled oysters with salt. The oysters were incredibly delicious, fresh and chewy, with a light saltiness that was perfect. Just with this dish, I decided to revisit the restaurant. I ordered a modern okonomiyaki after pouring some shochu. Maybe it was easy to get a seat because there weren't many tourists yet. If I can easily get a seat again, I would love to go back to eat the oysters. Thank you for the meal.

Yasubee yaki + draft beer ¥1250 + 550 This is a rare down-to-earth shop in Pontocho. I ordered the most popular Yasubee yaki. They cook it for you, so there's no risk of burning it! I waited for the best okonomiyaki with peace of mind. It includes pork, shrimp, squid, octopus, eggs, and more. They also have "betayaki," so I might try that next time. Thank you for the meal. It was delicious. 5.3

Yasubee, a popular okonomiyaki restaurant in Pontocho. I decided to try out some okonomiyaki in Pontocho and stumbled upon Yasubee. The restaurant was quite busy at first, but after waiting for about 10 minutes, I was able to get a table. It's better to make a reservation in advance. Established in 1982, Yasubee has been around for a while, but it doesn't have that traditional feel of a longstanding establishment. The casual atmosphere of the restaurant doesn't reflect the high-class image of Pontocho, which is a nice change. However, the presence of maiko (apprentice geisha) fans on the walls gives it a touch of the traditional flower district vibe. I tried the signature dish, the Yasubee-yaki, which is a fluffy Osaka-style okonomiyaki filled with pork, shrimp, squid, and octopus. It comes with a half-cooked egg inside and is topped with plenty of Kujo green onions. The sauce is self-service, with options of Worcestershire, sweet, and spicy. I asked the owner for her recommendation, and she topped it with all three sauces, green onions, and mayonnaise. The combination of fluffy batter and crispy green onions, with a hint of spiciness from the sauce, created a unique Kyoto-style okonomiyaki. I also tried the Oyster and Green Onion Yakisoba, which had a generous amount of large oysters mixed with Kujo green onions. The combination of yakisoba and oysters was surprisingly delicious! In addition to these dishes, Yasubee offers a variety of okonomiyaki styles, including pizza-style and modern-style. They also have a selection of side dishes, making it a great spot for a hearty drinking session. For more reviews and recommendations, check out my Tabelog page. If you're looking for a date spot, Yasubee is a great choice!

First visit to Kyoto Pontocho, stopped by a casual restaurant to satisfy my craving for okonomiyaki. Ordered the Yasubei-yaki with lots of green onions and the Hiroshima-style modern yakisoba with squid. The prices were reasonable and the food was delicious. Thank you for the meal!

In recent years, with the increase in tourists visiting Kyoto, restaurants have also increased and prices have been going up. In the midst of that, I found this place where you can easily eat okonomiyaki. They offer a variety of classic menu items like okonomiyaki, yakisoba, and teppanyaki. I ordered the pork okonomiyaki, and it was delicious! Personally, I prefer okonomiyaki that is firm rather than gooey, and this place was perfect for that. The texture is moist, and the flavor is solid. The pork is well-seasoned and tasty. Next, I tried the garlic yakisoba, and the noodles were great - firm and substantial. The flavor was not too strong, with a nice garlic sauce taste. The service was excellent, despite the constant flow of foreign customers, they were courteous to everyone. Lastly, it's very affordable. This place is sure to become popular.

We went to Kyoto-style okonomiyaki and yakisoba restaurant called Subee. It was our fourth stop after drinking a lot, but we were able to enjoy delicious food. We shared okonomiyaki and yakisoba and they were so tasty. The atmosphere of Pontocho might have had an influence on that. The yakisoba had oysters in it and they were so plump and delicious.

From a sushi restaurant, I wandered towards Kiyamachi Pontocho area. I always end up entering this shop when I stroll around here. Even though I said I was full, I couldn't resist ordering the Tonpei-yaki with lots of cheese (*'▽'). The cozy interior of the shop allows you to eat alone while watching TV. This time, I also ordered the regular yakisoba. I prefer the previous oyster yakisoba, but it's been a while since I had yakisoba. It was satisfying enough. There are many tourists, but recently the shop has become more accessible with a few empty seats. The staff are friendly and the atmosphere is relaxed. It's a casual shop in Pontocho.

The dish made by the staff is placed on the table's iron plate - a modern okonomiyaki with soba between the layers of dough, topped with mentaiko mayo. It is chewy and the staff has a pleasant atmosphere.

I casually dropped by. Most of the customers were foreigners. I tried the sujinegi-yaki and pork yakisoba. The sujinegi-yaki was okay, but the yakisoba was not very good. The pork was not belly meat, but thinly sliced, which made it taste mediocre.

On New Year's Day, after leisurely visiting Yasaka Shrine, Kodai-ji Temple, and Chion-in Temple for Hatsumode from 9 am, we looked for a lunch spot around 1 pm. The Kyoto-style udon restaurant we wanted to go to was all closed for New Year's Day, so we wandered back to Pontocho and saw the words "Okonomiyaki". We decided to go in based on the atmosphere, and found that it was almost full. We were seated at a booth with one available seat. What we ordered: - Oyster and green onion okonomiyaki - Yasubei yaki (okonomiyaki) - Draft beer - Bottled beer The green onion yaki was light and tasty with soy sauce. The okonomiyaki was delicious with plenty of seafood, half-cooked egg, and various ingredients. It was lucky that we found this place, not because there were few places open on New Year's Day, but because it was simply delicious. By the time we finished paying, there were two groups waiting outside. Lucky us, we discovered a delicious restaurant. I forgot to take pictures. I would definitely come back to this place when in Kyoto. Thank you for the meal.

It used to be a shop where foreign tourists lined up, so I gave up, but today I was able to enter smoothly. I was too full with okonomiyaki alone.
