I felt like having soba noodles for lunch, so I came to this restaurant. I ordered the large zaru soba. The soba, soba dipping sauce, and condiments arrived promptly. The set had a beautiful presentation that made me excited to slurp up the soba. The soba noodles were firm and refreshing when dipped in the flavorful dipping sauce. The sauce was not too spicy even when generously poured over the soba. It made me realize the difference between Kanto and Kansai soba dipping sauces. In an area filled with touristy restaurants, it's important to have a casual place like this to visit easily.

In the scorching heat of Kyoto at Karasuma Oike, I dared to have the hot oyakodon (950 yen) while everyone else in the packed restaurant was having cold noodles. I wanted to add soba for 1,500 yen, but it seemed like it wasn't a cold dish so I went with the oyakodon. The portion of rice was generous and I left feeling satisfied. The chicken pieces were arranged horizontally and looked cute. The texture of the white rice was well maintained. The right amount of sansho pepper added a nice touch of spice. There were two pieces of pickles. Not a place for ascetic practices! Always full house. Thank you for the meal~.

There is a soba restaurant on a street with many different shops, but it seems to be hidden among them. In the summer, it can get hot, so I ordered a tempura soba set with 2 shrimp, green peppers, 3 pieces of sweet potato, and nori for 1480 yen. It was a bit on the expensive side. The soba broth served at the beginning also made me think a little.

In mid-August, during the intense heat in Kyoto, I had a quick lunch. The restaurant is located just a 5-minute walk from Karasuma Oike Station, right in front of the Hachihonmote store. I had been curious about this place as I often passed by it. Looking at the menu, even though it was extremely hot outside, I decided to order the Curry Nanban. When in Kyoto, I always crave the taste of curry broth (^○^) <Order> Curry Nanban (soba) Tororo Soba (with egg) The Curry Nanban arrived with Kujo green onions and chopped fried tofu, giving it a Kyoto touch. The mild and warm curry broth was just what I needed to warm up my body, which had been chilled by the air conditioning and cold drinks. The Tororo Soba, with added egg, had a firm and thin texture, providing a satisfying bite and smoothness. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal (^○^)

I stopped by for lunch and decided to go with the soba noodles. I ordered the large portion of zaru soba. The noodles were cooked well with a nice chewy texture, but I felt that the soba flavor was not very strong. It seemed like it was made with a mix of buckwheat and wheat flour, but I wished there was more of that distinct soba aroma. Also, the portion of dipping sauce for the noodles was a bit small for a large size. Overall, it was a decent meal. The complimentary soba tea at the end was a nice touch. Thank you for the meal.

I visited around 2 o'clock. I ordered the grated radish soba for 900 yen, which comes with grated radish, bonito flakes, chopped seaweed, and pickled plum. I didn't have high expectations since it's a regular soba shop in town, but surprisingly the soba was quite delicious. The wasabi seemed authentic too. It was a nice touch to serve soba and soba broth together. They are doing a good job. Moreover, they accept transportation cards, credit cards, and other cashless payments! They are also registered as a cashless point reduction program store. How wonderful!

It's mid-March but still very cold, so I felt like eating something warm and decided to try this place. I ordered Tamago Toji Udon and Kasa Don. The eggs were fluffy and the flavors were surprisingly rich. The udon seemed to be hand-made, with varying thickness that added an interesting texture. Kasa Don was new to me, apparently a popular dish in Kansai. It had chopped fried tofu on top of udon, topped with green onions and scrambled eggs in a sweet and savory sauce. It was delicious. I later found out that this place is famous for its soba noodles, but the udon was great too. Overall, a good experience.

I visit this restaurant for lunch occasionally, but it's always packed with customers during lunchtime. It's a local favorite spot. Today's lunch was grated radish soba. For some reason, it comes with a big pickled plum, which is a unique feature. I wouldn't say it's the most delicious soba, but for this price and being close to my workplace, I often end up coming here. Thank you for the meal!

I finished my errands around Karasuma in Kyoto and was looking for a place to have lunch, but couldn't find a suitable restaurant and became a lunch refugee. I felt like having soba noodles, but the places I had in mind were all far away, so I was about to give up when I stumbled upon this restaurant... I entered without hesitation. It seemed like a restaurant with a long history, although not with a fancy high-end atmosphere, more like a casual eatery where you can feel comfortable. The prices are reasonable which is a plus ^^ It was a hot day, so I decided to go for cold soba noodles. The zaru soba was priced at 700 yen and the portion was quite generous, making it a good deal. After a short wait, my order arrived! Let's dig in. The soba noodles had a firm texture with a good chewiness, but they were easy to swallow. They weren't too rough or difficult to eat. They were slightly on the harder side, but not unpleasantly so, it came from the strong chewiness. They were bouncy and had a satisfying bite to them ^^ The aroma of the soba noodles was a bit weak in my opinion. It wasn't a big issue, but those who want to fully enjoy the aroma of soba noodles might find it a bit lacking. The dipping sauce was slightly spicy, but the umami flavor of the broth was also prominent. It wasn't just salty, it had a delicious umami taste which is the secret to its deliciousness! The broth was tasty, comforting, and warmed me up ^^ I randomly entered this soba noodle restaurant, but it turned out to be quite delicious! I was satisfied with both the quantity and quality. This area has quite a few hard-to-find restaurants, so I think this place is quite special. I would definitely like to visit again!

Due to Eitaro's temporary closure, I visited a familiar neighborhood spot. The fried curry udon (now priced at 930 yen) is their specialty, and you can occasionally catch a whiff of the fragrant curry being cooked in front of the shop. The udon noodles are thin and round, similar to Kyoto-style noodles, with a firm texture. The curry broth is rich and flavorful. Adding two extra packets of shichimi spice can enhance the dish even more. The green onions and fried tofu are delicious toppings. On my way out, I chatted with the owner about the prolonged closure of Hirano-ya due to his back issues. I mentioned how I rely on their tofu for making summer tofu rice bowls at home and how I am eagerly waiting for them to reopen. Owariza-ya also expressed their patience, saying they can't switch to another tofu supplier.

I got into the mood for writing and visited the restaurant at 2:00 PM. I ordered the grated soba noodles (930 yen), which came with bonito flakes, chopped nori, and a large pickled plum on top. I poured the broth over it and ate it. It also came with chopped green onions and grated wasabi on the side. It was light and delicious. The pickled plum paired well with it. Adding green onions changed the flavor. I think shichimi pepper goes better than wasabi. I also enjoyed the soba broth and left feeling satisfied.

This curry udon is more delicious than any other I've had. I always make sure to visit when I return to Kyoto.

Located in front of Hachi-hyaku-ichi-honkan up the street from Rokkaku-dori, this restaurant is run by an acquaintance whose daughter trained in Ueno and now manages the place. I don't visit often because it's too close by, except on New Year's Eve. Today, despite the rain, I decided to drop by after a long time. The tempura soba set meal includes tempura (shrimp, sweet potato, seaweed, and greens), soba noodles, rice, and a side of fried tofu (from Hirano-ya), cucumber pickles, and pickled greens and daikon, all for 1,000 yen. The broth is lightly sweetened but flavorful, and the soba noodles are thin and soft. Everything tastes just right. The rice portion is small and firm. I slurped up the soba first, then made a makeshift tempura rice bowl by placing the shrimp and seaweed on top of the rice. I savored the remaining broth and pickles. Recently, they also accept cards and other forms of payment.

I went to Owariya. I had the soba set meal. It was incredibly comforting and delicious. The broth was so flavorful and I never got tired of it. Truly representative of Kyoto's broth culture. The soba was also delicious. Absolutely recommended! Thank you for the meal.

I feel reassured by the solid quality. If it were a little cheaper, I think it would become a restaurant with long lines.

This is a traditional soba restaurant that has been around for a long time, but such shops have become rare lately. In Kansai, there are more udon restaurants, and in Kyoto, there are many ramen shops, so soba restaurants are precious. I hope they continue to operate for a long time. Natto soba is not often seen on menus in Kansai, and when I occasionally crave it, I used to go to a soba restaurant in a nearby hotel. However, I noticed natto soba as I passed by and decided to try it. In addition to natto, it also had pickled plum and grated daikon as toppings. I was momentarily puzzled about how to eat it, but I separated the soba to keep the flavors from mixing and enjoyed it. It would be even more convenient if there were a counter, though.
