When it comes to spring, we think of the high school baseball tournament, cherry blossom viewing, graduation ceremonies, new students, and lots of delicious food. But not everything is good. Yes, it's the deadline for paying the "fixed asset tax and city planning tax" (one-time payment). No one likes paying taxes, but this is something we can't avoid. So, I decided to ride my bike to the Sakyo Ward Office. You might say, "Can't you just pay that at the convenience store now?" Well, that's true, but I had some free time, wanted to do some light exercise for my health, and didn't want to pay the convenience store's extra fee, so I felt a sense of civic duty. Plus, I wanted to try a new lunch spot since I joined Tabelog. Kyoto Institute of Technology is right next to the ward office, and they have what seems to be the only cafeteria there. It was a bit crowded as it was just past 11 am. I had pork miso soup for 108 yen, small rice for 61 yen, herb roast chicken for 298 yen, cold tofu for 41 yen, and fried burdock for 82 yen, totaling 590 yen. It was a bit pricier than I expected, maybe because I'm not used to it. Lately, university co-op cafeterias tend to have a lot of standardized menus to streamline costs. Here, the fried burdock seems to be a specialty. The taste was average for a university cafeteria, but the burdock had an interesting texture. It added a nice flavor to the miso soup when I mixed some in. Despite being a technical university, there are quite a few female students here. Overall, it was a decent meal.
