A restaurant in Ichijoji, Kyoto known for its gyudon. Lately, the oyakodon has become more famous. This time, I went for breakfast, or more like a brunch right before 10 o'clock. It's great that they offer a variety of breakfast options at a cheap price until 10 o'clock. The three sheets of nori weren't enough so I ordered an extra one. The tonjiru had a color that was a bit off-putting, but everything else was delicious and satisfying.

Late-night meal. Thank you for keeping the restaurant open late. We went there after work with two people so I will post two reviews. ★ Pork Shabu Kimchi Cold Tantanmen It's cold, spicy, and has a good taste. The combination of meat miso and pork shabu gives it a punch and it's satisfying. ★ Sesame Sauce Cold Zaru Udon The smooth texture of the udon noodles with rich sesame sauce is amazing. The occasional taste of seaweed in your mouth adds a nice accent. It was great to be able to share.

Breakfast in Kyoto, at Nakau in Ichijoji, Kyoto City. As usual, I rode my bike around the town of Kyoto. So, it's valuable to find a place that serves breakfast early in the morning. Nakau has many locations in Kyoto and offers a variety of breakfast options. This time, I had the "Tamago Natto Asa Teishoku" for 330 yen. It's so cheap! I prefer fried eggs over raw eggs. The meal also includes natto, seaweed, white rice, and miso soup. They even have pickled ginger on the table as a side dish. Nakau is the best in terms of breakfast menu variety and affordability. However, it seems like it's tough for the staff working alone. But since there are few customers in the early morning, it's manageable for now. Delicious breakfast. Thank you for the meal.

Nakau is quite popular and I've been to various locations, but this particular store is by far the most visited. Today, I ordered the usual parent and child bowl with udon set. This combination is the best, no doubt. Nakau really nails the perfect dashi flavor every time. It's a true pleasure to be able to enjoy the same delicious meal consistently. I usually stick to the regular menu, but I'm thinking of trying out the limited-time specials soon. Thanks for the meal.

During the heyday of Yoshinoya, Nakau entered the scene as a latecomer. Intrigued by its peculiar name that didn't seem like a typical beef bowl restaurant, I visited Nakau a long time ago. They offer the classic beef bowl as well as udon here. The beef bowl had a Kansai-style flavor, light and with the texture of onions still intact, which I found delicious. My son still prefers Nakau over Yoshinoya to this day. At that time, I was already an old man and didn't have the courage to add udon to my bowl, but I encourage young people to give it a try. By the way, it was here that I first learned about udon named "Haikara Udon."
