Located on Yasaka Street, southeast of Kennin-ji Temple in Higashiyama, is "Enraku" restaurant. While Yasaka Street is known for tempura restaurants like Endo, it becomes quiet and atmospheric at night. Enraku, which was renovated from a kimono shop's residence, has a charming storefront, entrance, and building. The first floor features sunken kotatsu private rooms, small counter private rooms, and a large tatami banquet room that can accommodate a considerable number of guests. As the name suggests, their specialty is oden, a Kansai-style dish with a rich and delicious broth. They offer various ingredients such as eggs, daikon radish, konjac, beef tendon, fish cakes, and more, including unique options like spicy sausages and tofu shumai. Their a la carte menu includes sashimi, grilled dishes, fried foods, and delicacies, ensuring a variety of options for drinking. The fried Kamo eggplant, seared mackerel heshiko, and tofu miso stew are particularly memorable dishes. Their chilled tomatoes are made with delicious tomatoes and are a delight for tomato lovers. Enraku is a great restaurant for gatherings, from small groups of friends to larger business dinners, offering a pleasant dining experience in a nostalgic Japanese-style setting at a reasonable price.
