My husband and I, along with our close friends, another couple, went on a trip to Kyoto. When traveling, the biggest concern is always food. The underground mall near the station was filled with various dining options exuding a delicious atmosphere, waiting for us to explore. We decided to enter a restaurant that had a recommended menu with a service cost of 925 yen (excluding tax). We all ordered the recommended menu and also two plates of 3 oyster fritters each. As soon as we sat down, we were served tea. Shortly after, bamboo shoot rice, red miso soup, pickles, and chawanmushi were brought to us, followed by 3 shrimp and 1 shishamo tempura. The tempura looked freshly fried, and we decided to eat it with salt. Matcha salt was also provided. The bamboo shoot rice was flavorful, and we all wanted more than one bowl. The shrimp was fried in high-quality oil, not greasy like some other places. Despite being on the smaller side, the shrimp were cute and delicious. The shishamo tempura had no fishy smell and tasted great. Next came tempura of pumpkin, lotus root, broccoli, and eggplant. Each vegetable was cooked perfectly, bringing out its unique flavor. The miso soup had red miso with a few pieces of fried tofu, and despite being small in portion, it was enjoyable. The oyster fritters were large and juicy, satisfying our taste buds. After the meal, we had chawanmushi with ginkgo nuts, a far cry from the typical chawanmushi found in family restaurants. Priced at 999 yen including tax, it was definitely worth it, or rather, a delightful dining experience. I would love to try it again on my next visit, and I would recommend it to anyone visiting Kyoto.
