I finally found a genuine spice curry restaurant. The aroma of spices fills the air here. Once you try the curry at this place, you won't be satisfied with curry from other restaurants. There is no parking lot, so please park your car at a nearby parking area.

Recommended double curry set with papadum for 1100 yen. You can choose two types from spicy black curry, keema curry (spicy), lentil and vegetable curry (spicy), chickpea curry (sweet), and today's special butter chicken curry (mild). I chose the spicy black curry and butter chicken curry. The spicy black curry is quite hot but deliciously spicy. The butter chicken curry is described as mild, but it has a nice level of spiciness. This place offers authentic spiced curry with large chunks of ingredients.

I had some business near Yoshida Mountain in Kyoto, so I searched for lunch options and found NANDI. It was my first visit. In the hot summer, curry is a must! This restaurant is known for its spiciness. The place has a snack-like setup with only a counter. The curry is cooked to order, so the wait time is a bit long, but it's fun to watch the husband and wife team cook behind the counter. For my first visit, I ordered the Double Curry for ¥1000 each. I chose the Spicy Black Curry (with options for chicken, pork, lamb, or mixed vegetables) and the Keema Curry (spicy), Lentil and Vegetable (spicy), and Chickpea (sweet) for the two types of curry. During lunchtime, salad and extra portions are free. I had the Black Curry with Lentils in a large portion, and my partner had the Black Curry with Chickpeas. The place has an Indian-themed atmosphere, slightly dim even in the middle of the day. It might be a bit intimidating for a woman dining alone. The curry arrived and I thought, "Lots of multigrain rice! Black! Huge papadum!" Besides the two types of curry, there were also fried potatoes and peppers, making the meal very filling. The Black Curry was really spicy. Honestly, it was so spicy that I couldn't taste the other curry in the mix. But within the spiciness, there was a delicious flavor. I chose lamb for the meat, which was sweet and tender, enhancing the curry. The Lentil curry was also spicy, but not as much as the Black Curry. You could still taste the crunch of the vegetables and their individual flavors. It was delicious too. However, after about 5 minutes, I started sweating profusely. I had to use a handkerchief. I noticed there was a fan on the counter. Maybe that's why! After about 15 minutes, the quiet owner told me to use the fan on the counter, seeing my condition. I finished by adding pickles, enjoying the combination of sourness and spiciness. I found it strange that all those meticulous male customers didn't seem bothered and left calmly. I couldn't stop sweating from the spices, so I cooled down in the air-conditioned restaurant before leaving. For ¥1000, the curry here is really worth it. The taste, portion size, originality - I personally give it a high rating. I will definitely visit again. Thank you for the meal. I'm sorry for worrying you, owner!

In Kyoto's Sakyo Ward (Eiden Chayama), there is a curry restaurant called Nandi. They offer a double curry with papadum, including options like spicy black curry (choose from chicken, pork, lamb, or mixed vegetables), keema curry, lentils and vegetables, and four types of chickpeas to choose from. This time, I chose the spicy black curry with chicken and chickpeas. The black curry is intensely spicy and flavorful, while the chickpeas are mild and complement the black curry well. #Nandi #Chayama #Shirakawa Street #Ichijoji #Curry #Spicy Curry #Curry Rice #Spicy Black Curry #Chickpeas #Kyoto Gourmet #Kyoto Food Walk #Aishoku #Aitaiyo #Aitaiyo's Let's Eat in Kyoto #Aishoku Curry #Aishoku Kyoto Gourmet.

The specialty super spicy black curry was really spicy! You can choose from chicken, pork, lamb, or mixed vegetables for the ingredients. For lunch, you can get a large serving of rice and curry for the same price. The staff are kind and tell you not to force yourself if you're full. I added extra spiciness last time and finished it, but this time I ordered a large serving and had to leave a little. Maybe the spiciness of the spices varies depending on the day. The keema curry is also spicy, but for first-time visitors, I recommend starting with the keema curry as it is easier to eat. During lunchtime, the place is full of regular customers. The sound of sizzling spices fills the air as they are cooked each time an order is taken. I want to visit again after some time.

I had the Butter Shrimp Curry at the curry restaurant today. It was full of ingredients and rich in flavor, with a good amount of spices used. It was delicious. The crispy parts were also tasty with just the right amount of saltiness.

Once in a while, try the curry. Get a double curry - one spicy and one mild. Alternate between bites to create a medium level of spiciness.

It's a shop in Kyoto. It's located in a side street off the main street, so it's not very noticeable. I was attracted by the sign for Spice Curry. Actually, I was planning to go to the main store of Tenkaippin, that's why I stopped by Kyoto. However, to my surprise, there was a huge line. Why is there such a long line when it's not even Tenkaippin Day!? I don't know if there's always a line, but the main store is really something. I was debating whether to wait in line when I found this shop, so I ended up going in here. Inside the shop, there are only about 10 counter seats. There were no previous customers. When I left the shop (around 12:30), two people entered. As for the menu, they have interesting options like Spicy Black Curry, Spicy Dry Curry, and Dopiazza. I was torn, but I decided to try the Double Curry. It comes with papadum and costs 880 yen. For the curry, you can choose two from Spicy Black Curry, Keema Curry (spicy), Lentils and Vegetables (spicy), and Chickpeas (sweet). I chose Keema and Chickpeas. First, there's a salad. About 10 minutes later, the curry arrived. It comes with pickles. The Double Curry (Keema & Chickpeas) has a dam of rice in the middle with each curry on either side. It includes green peppers and potatoes. The Keema is quite spicy. It's not extremely spicy, but it might be tough for those who don't like spicy food. It has a slight bitterness. It uses finely ground meat and has a good texture. The Chickpeas are not spicy but not sweet either. The mildness of the beans comes through. The rice is like multigrain rice. It's cooked well. In the end, I broke the dam and mixed the Keema and Chickpeas together. The spiciness is balanced out and it tastes delicious. The papadum is not especially spicy. I crushed it and ate it with the rice. The pickles are mostly cabbage. The crunchy and tangy cabbage is refreshing. It was delicious. It's different from Indian-style curry, but it's well-seasoned and makes you sweat. Even the spicy version is quite hot, so I wonder how the super spicy one would be. Starting with the Keema and Chickpeas mix might be a good idea for those who prefer less spiciness at first.

Black curry (chicken) and keema curry side by side. The black curry, simmered since the first year of Heisei, explodes with various flavors the moment it touches your tongue. It's so rich in taste! By the second bite, sweat starts pouring out. The keema curry tasted sweet in comparison. It was too spicy, so I added a raw egg towards the end. It was delicious~ The interior of the restaurant was filled with Indian decorations, very cute. They had many books about India, which made me want to read them. Actually, I want to go to India. There was a quiet dog sleeping near the entrance of the counter, so soothing.

I decided to eat Biryani today. Limited to 10 servings, it costs 1,200 yen for the Lamb Biryani (Indian-style mixed rice). The interior of the restaurant is filled with Indian-related books and goods, showing their love for India. The dish is carefully prepared, with each component assembled separately and then combined, topped with cilantro at the end. The cabbage pickle has a cumin flavor. The Lamb Biryani today is delicious, with a nice combination of nuts. The spices are not overpowering, and occasionally the taste changes with the addition of bell peppers and cherry tomatoes for acidity. Cilantro enhances the overall flavor. The texture of the nuts is amazing. I watched as they added different kinds of nuts in the dish. The pistachios still have their shells, so be careful! The lamb is very tasty, and I definitely want to try their curry next time!

I have been in Kyoto for 2 and a half years, and I love curry so I have visited various restaurants, but this place is top-notch in terms of deliciousness in Kyoto. Lately, I have been addicted to the Biryani served on weekends, limited to 10 servings! - Biryani (Lamb) 1200 yen + Black Curry (small) additional 250 yen This dish consists of rice cooked with lots of spices, mixed with nuts and meat. Once you try this Biryani, you won't find other places satisfying anymore. It's incredibly delicious! You can also add the black curry, which pairs perfectly with it. I recommend adding a little bit on top and trying it. NANDI, a well-established Indian curry restaurant that operated in Amagasaki for over 20 years, has moved to Shichijo-dori in Ichijo-ji as the main store in July 2014. They celebrated their 25th anniversary in December 2014. The clean interior, decorated with Indian fabrics and goods, gives you a feeling of being in India. The owner has a mohawk! I personally call this place one of the "Kyoto Curry Big Four," along with Morin Dining, Spice Chamber, and Curry Factory Kariru. Another favorite curry of mine is the Keema Curry at the Hi-Fi Cafe, which is also very delicious. NANDI's specialty is the "Black Curry," which is quite spicy. It's not just chili pepper spicy, but a rich spiciness from various spices and secret ingredients. It has a slightly sour and subtly burnt taste, which is hard to describe but becomes addictive as you eat more. You can order it separately, but I recommend the Double Curry, where you can enjoy two types of curry. - Double Curry (Black Curry Lamb & Keema Curry) 880 yen You can choose two types of curry from options like Black Curry (extra spicy), Keema (spicy), and Chickpea (sweet). It comes with curry, mixed grain rice, papadum, pickled cabbage, and fried potatoes. The lamb in the Black Curry is cooked separately to bring out the meat's flavor. It's definitely worth trying! The owner mentioned that the lamb is not stewed in the sauce like other meats but grilled just before serving. This enhances the meat's umami, especially the richness of the fatty parts. The quality of the lamb is excellent, with no unpleasant smell. Overall, NANDI offers a great variety of delicious curries, and I highly recommend trying their dishes.

In June 2016, I visited a curry restaurant in Kyoto that offers "spice curry". Upon researching, I found out that the restaurant originally operated in Amagasaki City before relocating to Ichijoji. It seems to be a well-established curry restaurant with 25 years of history. The restaurant is located off the main street of Kitashirakawa, just behind the main store of "Tenkaippin". The restaurant is run by an elderly couple, with the husband in charge of cooking and the wife handling the service. The interior is decorated with lots of Asian goods, possibly collected during their backpacking days. Looking at the curry menu, there are some "spicy" options available. Since I'm not a fan of very spicy food, I consulted with the husband and decided to have a combination of two dishes: Butter Shrimp Curry (mild) and Chicken Tomato Curry, a double curry (1080 yen). The meal came with a side of mini salad and cabbage pickles. The curry was ready in about 10 minutes, with multigrain rice and poppadoms in the center. The two curries were placed on either side of the rice. The darker one on the left is the Chicken Tomato Curry, while the one on the right is the Butter Shrimp Curry. The accompaniments included fried onions, fried potatoes, and shishito peppers. The Tomato Curry had melted cheese on top and was mildly spicy, just as I had requested. The Butter Shrimp Curry was sweet and creamy, almost like a minestrone soup. As someone who is not a fan of spicy food, I preferred this curry. The restaurant's signature dish, the "Black Curry", is made with 33 different spices and has been cooked continuously for 25 years since its establishment. If you enjoy spicy food, I recommend trying it out. Overall, this curry restaurant in Kyoto offers a unique twist that you might not find elsewhere in the city.

The restaurant is located just behind the Tenichi main store, right off Shirakawa Street and Kitaoji Street. When you enter the shop, you are greeted by the aroma of spices and colorful pop objects. The shop is long with only a counter and about 10 seats. I ordered the super spicy black curry (with pork) and the spinach and chicken curry of the day as a double order. The super spicy black curry has been simmering since the first year of Heisei era, for 28 years! I have never had curry like this before. Despite being labeled as super spicy, if you are fairly good with spicy food, it should not be a problem. The curry that has been simmering for days brings out the sweetness of the vegetables, which I am not particularly fond of, but the 28-year-old curry at this shop has a perfect balance of spices, with the sweetness turning into a rich flavor. The thin crispy rice cracker-like side dish with a skewer-like fried chili pepper and fried potato. There are probably fried onions on top as well. The various textures are enjoyable, with a good level of acidity, spice kick, and the umami of the vegetables making it a very satisfying dish. The only thing to be careful of is the order in which you eat the super spicy black curry and the regular curry when ordering them as a double. I made the mistake of eating the super spicy black curry first, so when I tried the regular curry afterwards, it felt weaker than it actually was because I had already experienced the strong spiciness. Next time, I will save the super spicy black curry for later in the meal.
