Lunch for 630 yen and surprisingly cheap bread (starting from 100 yen) at a café. As you enter, the bread corner is on the right and the eat-in corner is on the left. It's a small café with only a few counter seats and two 4-person tables, where a man cooks in the kitchen and a woman manages the bread. The lunch menu is a weekly pasta lunch set, but you can also buy bread and eat it inside. Some people bought bread at the bread corner, put it on a plate, and ordered coffee separately for a light lunch. When I entered, it was full, but after buying bread and waiting a bit, a table opened up with almost no waiting time. However, as soon as a table opened up, the next customer arrived, so it was always full. There are no bag storage at the counter, but you can use bag hooks, backside shelves, or empty chairs. As a COVID-19 measure, there is alcohol disinfectant spray at the entrance, partitions on the table seats, and sufficient spacing between counter seats. The weekly pasta lunch set for 630 yen includes a mini salad and blended coffee (hot/iced). The salad, though mini, had a sufficient amount with lettuce, watercress, corn, and Italian dressing. The pasta was served with the salad and was hot and cooked in a frying pan with plenty of carrots and mushrooms. It had a strong tomato acidity and overall saltiness, with thin noodles and a generous amount of cheese. It was filling and satisfying. PayPay was accepted for payment, which was very convenient. I also bought six takeaway breads. The salt bread for 100 yen was stretchy with a good saltiness, and I thought it was addictive. The croissant for 130 yen was not the typical croissant but more like a buttery roll with a moist texture. It was oily but easy to eat. The frank roll for 160 yen had a strong ketchup flavor and a filling texture. The curry bun for 200 yen had a tangy spice flavor instead of being very spicy. The ham sandwich for 170 yen was surprisingly delicious with fluffy bread, sweet mayonnaise, crunchy vegetables, and plenty of ham. It was a great value for the price.

In Kyoto's Sakyo Ward, there is a bakery with a very noticeable sign that seems open but has a dark interior. Despite this, they are open for business. A kind elderly lady comes out from the back to assist you. Surprisingly, they accept payment through PayPay! The croissant costs 130 yen and though it may not be exactly like a traditional croissant, it is delicious with a texture similar to buttery roll bread. It is a bit salty, so it goes well with something less salty. The price is reasonable! The cupcake costs 160 yen and is filled with plenty of raisins. It is light and crispy, making it a delicious snack.

I had bought bread from Sunrise and another bakery here a long time ago, but it was left in memo form. Here is the review from that time: A shop with a dining area attached. A lively old lady was chatting with regular customers. The bread they sell is very traditional, like raisin bread and Sunrise bread. Salt bread: Unlike the common salt bread with butter inside, this one has a simple topping of salt and sesame. You can taste the fragrant wheat. The texture is not too fluffy or chewy, but has a firm feel. Sunrise bread: A gentle sweetness on a fluffy and crispy dough. It's as big as a face!! It seems perfect to share with everyone at home as a snack. When I visited this time, the previous customer left one salt bread and one croissant for me, maybe? She bought everything else! She seemed to really like those two breads, so I also bought the remaining salt bread and croissant. I warmed them up at home! The salt bread, I had tried it before. It's densely packed inside, with a bagel-like dough and no butter wrapping, more like a salt bread shape. It has a simple taste that goes well with meals! The croissant is quite oily! Maybe it's the smell of butter? It has a different aroma from burnt butter, more like the scent of natural yeast bread. Baking it in the oven makes it even crispier! It feels like a beloved old-fashioned bakery, with reasonable prices, and I naturally feel like going back again.

I rate this place as 4.0 for food and taste, 4.0 for service and atmosphere, 4.2 for value for money, and 4.0 for drinks. It had been 33 years since my last visit. Today, I met up with a friend in Kyoto after almost two weeks. We decided to have a home drinking night, so I needed to prepare by buying some delicious bread. I came across a familiar small bakery that has been in business for over 30 years, since my college days. I wasn't particularly fond of bread back then, but I remember how my friend who loved bread introduced me to this place and I found it delicious. I haven't been back in a while, especially with the rise of more modern and trendy bakeries. The bakery was crowded with customers seeking a one-coin pasta lunch during lunchtime. I bought a croissant and a koppe pan for a little over 200 yen. I was curious to see how my friend would react to the unique and hearty taste of the bread. That evening, we enjoyed the bread with Calpis butter and cheese. The atmosphere of the bakery, the friendly lady owner, the appearance and variety of breads all remained unchanged, as I had expected. The koppe pan had a nostalgic and rich taste from the good old days. The croissant, which I found too troublesome to eat, was given to my friend as a salted bread. It was crispy and surprisingly tasty. Although these breads were simple and traditional, they had their own charm and we enjoyed them. There were some koppe pan leftovers, and one of the best ways to eat hardened bread is to make bread porridge by putting it in soup. This time, we made a tomato-based soup with daikon and lots of butter, which turned out to be delicious. I don't recall the daily pasta lunch being popular back in my college days. Overall, I was satisfied with the experience and would love to visit again. Satisfaction 4, Nostalgia 3, Revisit Hope 4.

Located a little north of Hyakumanben on Higashioji Street in Kyoto, this bakery is a must-visit spot for me whenever I go to the nearby Chinese restaurant, Kasho. A friend gave me a lot of delicious salt bread a few years ago, saying "You have to try this!" and ever since then, whenever I go to Kasho, I always stop by here. Another friend gave me a lot of walnut bread from Bon Volant, probably around 10 pieces, saying "It's cheap and delicious, so it sells out quickly." Since then, I occasionally go to buy bread here, but they often sell out quickly. Today, I was lucky to find some, but it was the last bread they had. The salt bread and croissants here are highly recommended. They are only 100 yen each, but they are packed with flavor. Unlike chain bakery bread that looks big and fancy but ends up flat when you bite into it, these breads have a satisfying texture. I enjoyed the simplicity of the bread with just butter today. I also had the one-coin pasta lunch here a while ago, and it was delicious too.

I heard from a friend that there is a pasta restaurant with amazing cost performance. I searched around the area several times but couldn't find it. Frustrated, I called my friend and said, "I can't find it!" Then my friend replied, "It's not a pasta restaurant, it looks like a bakery." I was confused. The inside of the store is indeed a bakery, selling nostalgic bread. In the back, a person is managing everything alone. During lunchtime, customers keep coming in, and they serve a salad, pasta, and a drink for only 580 yen! Today's special is clam pasta, like Vongole Bianco. The daily menu seems to be fixed. They use thin pasta, but it's well-made. And it only takes about 10 minutes to be served, so you don't have to wait long. Amazing! This is definitely a recommended B-class place.

Near Motonakatani Station, there is a bakery that also serves coffee or tea. Here are some items I tried: [Salt Bread] ★3.5 It has a subtle saltiness and a fragrant white sesame on the surface. The base dough is firm, and the surface is slightly dry. When reheated, the surface becomes crispy. [Grape Bread] (120 yen) ★3.5 It has a crunchy texture with sugar crystals on the surface. The base dough seems to be the same as the salt bread. The crumb is dense, and there is a strong buttery flavor. The raisins have a rich flavor, perhaps soaked in brown sugar. The bread is quite firm. [Croissant] ★3.7 I forgot to take a photo, but it looks like a crescent moon rather than the typical layered croissant. It resembles more of a butter roll than a croissant. The base dough is similar to the salt bread, not the typical croissant dough. It is moist due to the generous amount of butter. The butter flavor is strong but not overwhelming. The crust is slightly dry. When reheated, the crust becomes slightly crispy, enhancing the buttery flavor. Price-wise, it is reasonable considering the lack of fancy decorations. The bakery has a rustic charm, similar to homemade bread baked in an oven. The selection of items is limited, but the absence of additives makes it a high point. The bread has a simple and solid texture, which may not be fluffy or soft, but it is comforting to eat. Overall, it is better than chain store bread with artificial additives and a hollow texture.

I went to "Maruho Bakery Takarada" in Motonakano. I entered the store at 12:20 PM. The inside of the store was divided into a bread sales area on the north side and an eat-in space on the south side. They had a variety of bread, but it had a traditional bakery feel. I bought a Sunrise for ¥110, a Jam Bread for ¥90, and a Hamburger for ¥210 to take home. The Sunrise was big and a bit dry, but I thought it was delicious. The Jam Bread had a traditional taste. The Hamburger brought back memories of when I was a kindergarten. The pasta lunch in the eat-in space also looked delicious. Thank you for the meal!

The bakery named "Old-fashioned Bakery" offers only classic types of bread. They don't have any hard bread or French bread, just soft bread. The prices are reasonable, but there weren't many types of bread that I wanted to try. The small coppe bread costs 180 yen and is surprisingly large for its size. The crust is a bit chewy, but the inside is moist. It lacks flavor and may be too plain unless you add something to it. It's less sweet than school lunch coppe bread, so it might go well with other dishes. The bread dough seems traditional, but it wasn't to my liking.

I had some errands near Kyoto University and was looking for a late lunch. I saw a review mentioning a 500 yen lunch here, so I decided to check it out. The place is located just north of the Hyakumanben intersection along the Higashioji-dori street. The beige walls and a sign saying "A bakery with nostalgic flavors" create a warm atmosphere. Inside, there were about 20 types of bread displayed on the right side. They had croissants, a Sunrise bread for 105 yen, and many other basic options, including sandwich bread with various fillings. The prices were very affordable. On the left side of the shop, there were already male students, older men, and women enjoying their lunch. It seemed like smoking was allowed as I saw an older man smoking. I asked the lady at the shop if I could have lunch, and she welcomed me in. The small space had two 4-person tables and a 7-seat counter. As I sat at the counter, I watched a man skillfully stir-frying pasta. He seemed very busy, preparing salads, sautéing pasta, and moving at an incredible speed. The lunch menu changes daily, and today's special was carbonara. For 525 yen, you get pasta, salad, and a choice of coffee (hot or iced). My meal arrived in about 5 minutes. The pasta and salad were served on white plates. The carbonara sauce was lightly coated on thin pasta, which made it a bit challenging to eat as the noodles clung together. However, it wasn't heavy like some carbonara dishes tend to be. The pasta was cooked perfectly al dente and had a nice touch of black pepper and Parmesan cheese. The bacon was in small, firm cubes and not too salty. The salad consisted of watercress, lettuce, and corn with a slightly tangy French dressing. The large lettuce leaves provided a crunchy texture, and the dressing complemented the vegetables well. The coffee I ordered was iced, and it was strong but not diluted, with ample amount served. It was a great deal for 525 yen with a filling meal. Despite being a bakery, they serve proper lunches. I couldn't resist buying any bread to take home this time, but I definitely want to try some next time. It's a hidden gem and a budget-friendly option for locals. Enjoy a simple, satisfying lunch at this cozy spot! Just be mindful of the timing as it can get crowded even around 2 pm.

During lunchtime on a regular day, I was intrigued by the sign at the entrance of the store that said "Lunch for 525 yen!" It seemed like about 30% of the seats were already taken by people there for lunch. There were others like me looking for bread to buy, and the food bread options were already running low, so it seemed like the place was still busy. I ended up buying a ham sandwich on a soft and moist coppe bread, with ham, shredded cabbage, and mayonnaise inside. The taste was simple but delicious! I could easily eat three of them after a club activity. I also bought a chocolate bread, which had a sweet dough with chocolate cream inside, offering a surprisingly rich and tasty flavor. I'm already thinking of coming back soon for lunch!

The shop attached to the bakery allows you to enjoy their bread on-site. The main menu is the daily lunch special, which rotates from Monday to Saturday. On Monday, they serve Peperoncino, Tuesday is Tomato Sauce, Wednesday is Carbonara, Thursday is Meat Sauce, Friday is Vongole Bianco, and Saturday is Boscaiola. The lunch set includes salad and coffee for only 525 yen. The spaghetti dishes are simple yet well-prepared, and could easily be priced around 1000 yen. My recommendation is the Meat Sauce on Thursdays, with fresh mushrooms that are really delicious. All the other menu items are also above average in taste. The croissant here is unique, resembling a cross between a croissant and a butter roll. It's addictive and delicious. The cost performance is great, so if you have the chance, give it a try. Just note that there are no non-smoking seats, so it might be tough for those who dislike cigarette smoke if seated next to a smoker at the counter.

As mentioned in other reviews on Tabelog, the croissant here is incredibly original! Normally, croissants have many layers like paper from folding in butter. However, here the croissant is more like a hard butter roll dough rolled into a crescent shape. But the bottom has the buttery and crispy texture of a croissant. The dough has a strong saltiness and is delicious! It lived up to its reputation of being delicious. It's a taste that can only be found here. I definitely want to go back to buy more. And it's cheap too. The croissant is 126 yen and the jam bread I bought with it is 94 yen! You don't see these prices nowadays.

Croissants seemed to be a specialty here, so I decided to stop by after work. The croissant was not like the typical buttery, layered pastry, but more like a long, firm roll with a crescent shape. The other items on the menu were also reminiscent of a traditional local bakery. However, the prices were budget-friendly, making it a good option for everyday use. Perhaps a good choice for those who appreciate a retro atmosphere?

This croissant is unlike any other I've seen before. When you bite into it, the butter oozes out in a delicious way that butter lovers will adore. It has a satisfying texture that even those who prefer harder breads will enjoy. So, eat it without anything else. It pairs perfectly with a café au lait. Be careful not to burn it in the toaster oven. Reheating it can make it crumble and the butter melt out, making it a bit difficult to eat. It's delicious even without heating it. You won't get tired of eating it easily. The shop may look plain and the variety may not be extensive, but for all bread lovers out there, give it a try!

This is a review of a bakery. It has probably been there for over 35 years. When I was a child, my mother used to often buy their pound cake. Although the people making the bread may have changed, it still tastes the same as it did back then. When you buy it fresh, it is moist and delicious. Sometimes it can be a bit dry, maybe because it has been sitting out for a while. It uses plenty of raisins and you can taste the eggs. There is no greasy feeling, so I think they do not use margarine. The bread is very simple. They have white bread, croissants, and salt bread. I buy them when I want to have soup, stew, or pasta salad for dinner. They go especially well with soup. When I invited a German friend to a barbecue, they brought a lot of the white bread from this bakery. The bread is firm and packed with filling. You can taste the flour as well. When I make hamburgers at home, I order burger buns from here. If you order them the day before, they will be ready in time. They are much better than the burger buns that are 80% air that you find in supermarkets. This bakery is the only one that will automatically put the bread in a plastic bag without you having to ask. It's a small thing, but it makes me happy.

There is a bakery near Motonaka that sells soft and classic bread made with natural yeast, neither French nor German style. When you enter the store, the bread is displayed on the right side. On the left side, there are a few small tables, and towards the back, there is a counter with 4-5 seats for dining in. At lunchtime, they offer spaghetti as a daily lunch special for 500 yen, attracting local office workers and shoppers. The small store space can get crowded, so I only use it occasionally for buying bread. They offer standard sweet bread like chocolate, raisin, cream, and melon pan. They also have savory bread with sausages. The charm of this place is its affordability as a handmade bread shop, offering reliable taste. There are many bakeries in the area, so it may not be necessary to go out of your way to visit, but if you have the chance, give it a try.

When you come here, please buy the croissant (although it is often sold out...). The croissant here is not your typical croissant. It's not the soft, flaky kind that you might be used to. It's more like a "hard type" or even "French bread type" with a crispy outer layer and a chewy inside. The more you chew, the more delicious it gets. It's truly a unique croissant that you won't find anywhere else. Once you try it and think "I want to eat it again," you'll have to come back here. It's quite impressive. If you love bread, be sure to give it a try. (Please note that it often sells out, so please be understanding)

When you open the door, you will first find a bakery with a counter and table seats at the back. The bread has a nostalgic taste with the catchphrase "old-fashioned flavor", and I wonder if they use naturally derived yeast? They don't have the baguette that I often use, so they don't really use the bakery. They mainly use the café at the back. You can buy bread from the front and have tea, and they also have simple paninis on the menu. But the most attractive option is the daily lunch set for ¥525 (11:00-15:00). It includes pasta, salad, and coffee (I prefer tea). The pasta changes daily. The pasta is made with fettuccine and has a satisfying texture. The sauce is also flavorful and well-balanced. Many sauces have a hint of spice, which I like. The salad is not elaborate but has a dressing with a hint of garlic. The tea is usually Earl Grey, which suits my taste. The portion size is not large, but it seems like they use around 100g of pasta (dry weight equivalent), so it's not a dainty portion. It's not exactly a bargain, but it offers good value for the cost.
