There are many individual meat shops in Kyoto city without parking lots, and there seems to be more butcher shops compared to other cities, as many people in Kyoto enjoy yakiniku. I plan to start a series called "Kyoto City Meat Shop Croquette Series" where I will purchase croquettes and minced cutlets whenever I find them. The first shop is a butcher shop located at the corner of a shopping street in Shichijo, Shimogyo-ku. I noticed this shop while walking before and was curious about it. When I placed my order with the lady at the shop, she told me to wait a few minutes while they fry them. The atmosphere of the shop is nice, and the owner, who was wearing a tie, had a good vibe. While waiting, I looked at the various products they offer and noticed the high quality of the meat they sell. I ordered croquettes and minced cutlets, and they were huge! They seemed to be twice the size of regular ones! The oil they used was not lard, so it tasted light. The croquette was sweet and very delicious, while the minced cutlet had a strong meaty flavor with a wild texture and juicy meat juice oozing out. They used good quality meat without much seasoning for the minced cutlet. Some may think it's a waste, while others may find it just right. The shop closes at 5 pm.

■Visit Date: May 9, 2020■Received Item: Beef Fillet Cutlet Sandwich■MEMOVisited on May 9, 2020. It's a butcher shop located in Shichijo Gozen that I've been curious about as I passed by. Although it specializes in meat, they also sell croquettes, pork cutlets, and beef fillet cutlet sandwiches. The beef fillet cutlet sandwich is made to order and fried fresh. The combination of juicy beef cutlet and sandwich bread is perfect. It may seem a bit pricey at ¥1400, but the taste is definitely worth it. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm also interested in trying their croquettes and pork cutlets. Since the market is nearby, there are various shops to explore around Shichijo Gozen towards Senbon. Just walking around in the area can be enjoyable.■Blog Post: https://ay-style.net/?p=49165

I had always wanted to visit this meat shop near my work, and finally stopped by. They were frying beef cutlets, and a group of students from a sports club stopped by and eagerly devoured the freshly made, hot beef cutlet sandwiches. It was delicious.

Actually, there were some remaining tasks at work, so I (somewhat planned) decided to go to work early in the morning. That's why I couldn't make a lunchbox on time! I was aiming for a day when I could say that~! Today, returning from a weekend business trip, I was fortunate to have that timing. And, today happens to be my "half-century anniversary." To reward myself for my usual hard work... (although there's no one to say that to me), I went to Gomen Nijo for lunch!! I ordered the Beef Fillet Cutlet Sandwich for 2200 yen! I ate it in a corner of the restaurant. The bread was toasted and had a crispy texture rather than soft. There were 4 slices in total, and after eating them all, I felt quite full. The meat was tender and moist, and compared to the one at Motosaka in Osaka's Tsutenkaku Shopping Street (pseudonym), the price difference of 1500 vs 2200 was justified by the superior quality of the meat here! While Motosaka has thicker slices of meat, they only serve 3 slices. The meat at Okawa is more tender and delicious, as anyone can tell. If I were to be picky, I think they could improve the quality of the bread a bit more to make it even better. But this place is a butcher shop, not a bakery. It's best to not be too demanding, or else who knows, someone might come and complain from behind. No, no, if I say something dangerous like that, I might get stabbed from behind, well, no, if I say such ominous things, someone might come to complain again~! Anyway, this is the famous Tabelog after all!! (^^ In terms of rewarding myself, I didn't feel that 2200 yen was too expensive at all. I may not be able to eat something like this often, but as a choice for a luxurious yet casual lunch on a special day, I thought it was totally worth it. If you're going to eat, why not go for something good for 2200 yen instead of settling for a 1000 yen one!!

Hello! I'm Average, here to buy the famous sandwich from Mr. Okawa that we often see on TV shows like Gourmet Taxi. Although the Beef Cutlet Sandwich is well-known, I decided to go with the Pork Loin Cutlet Sandwich. It's a toast sandwich filled with pork loin cutlet, shiso leaf, cheese, and ketchup. I only bought two slices, so maybe that's why the appearance of the cutlet was a bit off, but the taste was quite good. The aroma of shiso leaf and the saltiness of the cheese paired perfectly with the cutlet. The cutlet was a bit tough, but I think it's because it wasn't freshly made. They offer freshly made sandwiches, so I recommend getting those. The service was polite, and the atmosphere of the shop on Shichijo Street is noticeable. They have various takeout sandwiches and foods available. The price for the Pork Loin Cutlet Sandwich (2 slices) at 380 yen is reasonable. Overall, it's a convenient place to grab a quick meat sandwich or food. The Beef Cutlet Sandwich that is often featured on TV is probably the best choice!

At the butcher shop, you can get a delicious pork cutlet sandwich. The shop is located west on Shichijo Street until you reach Gozen Street. It's like an old-fashioned butcher shop. They have a variety of sandwiches, from pre-made mixed sandwiches to ones that are fried on the spot. I ordered the special beef cutlet sandwich! After a short wait, I received my order, but it was not a special beef cutlet sandwich, just a special beef cutlet. The cutlet itself was thick and made with lean meat, tasty. The breading was fine and tended to separate a bit, maybe to make it easier to sandwich. Overall, it felt a bit pricey at 1500 yen including tax. When I asked about the difference between special and regular, the answer was a bit unhelpful. Hmm, not sure about this place...@_@

For lunch in February 2016, I went to buy a light tonkatsu sandwich. However, I found a "teriyaki rice" dish priced around 1200 yen, but it could vary depending on the meat of the day. This dish had a lot of meat, more than the rice itself. It wasn't greasy, making it easy to eat. I became interested in other menu items and will visit again. Every time I passed by, I was intrigued by the large "tonkatsu sandwich" sign outside this place. Finally, I was able to visit. An elderly lady assisted me. The beef tonkatsu sandwich is made to order. On a hot summer day, I was allowed to wait in the car, which was very kind. After about 5 minutes, the owner brought it to me. It was hot and fresh. The meat was so tender that I thought it could be cut with chopsticks, and the shiso leaf added a refreshing touch. It was very delicious and had a generous portion. I would like to visit again. Thank you for the meal.

I want to eat a katsu sandwich. I remembered this place that I had been curious about for a while after seeing reviews from other people. I had some errands to run nearby, so I decided to stop by and check it out. I had heard that they make the food after you order, so when I enthusiastically said, "I'll have the beef katsu sandwich," the lady at the counter just pointed to it, and I realized that it was pre-made. But I couldn't back down at that point, so I went ahead and bought it. The beef katsu sandwich was 1200 yen. Sometimes it's nice to have a lunch like this. I went back to my car and thought, "Alright, let's eat!" The sandwich had thick slices of meat sandwiched between sturdy bread. I love katsu sandwiches, so there's no way it wouldn't be delicious. The meat was great, and the sauce was tasty too. It had a tangy ketchup and mustard mix, and I think there were other flavors mixed in as well. The shiso leaf was a nice touch. I took half of it home and toasted it before eating. Yep, definitely better that way! I really wanted to try it fresh though. Thanks for the meal. I went back again to try the freshly made beef katsu sandwich, but it was still pre-made. So I decided to try something else, and I ended up getting the mixed sandwich. Even though I didn't expect much from it, it was actually pretty good. The ham and cheese sandwich had a generous amount of lettuce and was really juicy and delicious. The egg sandwich was also filled with plenty of ingredients and had a nice flavor, not too strong. Overall, the sandwiches were quite filling for the price, and I left satisfied. Thanks for the meal.

Located southwest of Shichijo Onmae intersection is the butcher shop, Okawa. Inspired by a review from forestspringwater on Mailevi, I decided to visit. They offer sandwiches made by the butcher shop. They have about 6-7 types of sandwiches including beef cutlet sandwich, steak sandwich, egg sandwich, and minced cutlet sandwich. Since it was my first visit, I chose the plain beef cutlet sandwich. What I ordered: Beef cutlet sandwich (1080 yen). It took about 15 minutes as they started frying it after I placed my order. "Please wait in your car, we'll bring it to you." It's nice to see the mother's caring gesture. I rushed home to try it out! It was interesting to see shiso leaves in the sandwich. The combination of tangy tonkatsu sauce and mustard was great. The meat was tender and had a comforting homemade feel. While the beef cutlet sandwich from famous Western restaurants is delicious, for those looking for a freshly made, hot, and reasonably priced beef cutlet sandwich, I recommend this place. With Umekoji Park nearby, it's also a good idea to grab a sandwich for a picnic outing.

Nakagawa Butcher Shop, located on the southwest corner of the Shichijo Gozen intersection, is a typical meat shop in a shopping district that also offers food menus. When I visited, there was a constant stream of customers buying meat. On top of the meat showcase, there were hot dogs lined up as if urging you to buy them, but I ordered the beef cutlet sandwich. The order was quickly taken to the back of the shop for cooking. After a short wait, a hot pack was brought out. Inside were four pieces of cutlet sandwich with ketchup sauce on top. The meat was thick and they don't use a roller to preserve the deliciousness of the meat itself. I brought it home to eat, and I imagine it would have been even more tender and delicious if eaten fresh. The thickness of the meat provided a satisfying texture and a strong meaty flavor. Personally, I wish it was a bit more convenient to use.

I found a review saying that you can eat freshly made beef cutlet sandwiches, so I went to try it out. I arrived without any trouble and they were already open even though it was just before opening time. I ordered a regular beef cutlet, pork cutlet, and a mixed sandwich, which seemed like a lot. It was ready in about 10 minutes, and when it was handed to me, I was surprised by how heavy it was. It came in a plastic container that was a bit bigger than usual. I ate the hot sandwiches right away, still steaming from the nearby convenience store. The beef and pork were both well-seasoned with ketchup and mustard, and the refreshing aroma of shiso was a nice touch. The beef was cooked thoroughly, so I thought it could have been a bit rarer. The pork was delicious as always. My friend and I finished all 8 pieces and were full, so we took the mixed sandwich home. The taste was pretty average, but getting 6 pieces for 500 yen was a good deal. I saw other items like minced cutlet that caught my interest, so I plan to visit again. Thank you for the meal!

The blog post can be found here: http://harapekooyaji.blog104.fc2.com/blog-entry-829.html On July 13, 2014, after indulging in delicious food at Shiseien and the prestigious main house of flavors, I made my way to Okawa in Shimogyo-ku, Kyoto. This restaurant was discovered while looking for a good place nearby when I visited the number one ramen shop. It's not very well-known on food review sites, but the freshly made cutlet sandwiches looked too delicious to resist. The menu offers six types of meat sandwiches ranging from 500 yen to 2500 yen. I decided to order the 1000 yen beef cutlet sandwich. The sandwich is made to order, so I eagerly waited at the table between the meat display and the fryer. The thickness of the beef cutlet was impressive, and the bread was perfectly toasted. After a short wait, the beef cutlet sandwich was ready. The beef cutlet was tender and sweet, and the toasted mountain-shaped bread added a unique texture. The moment I took a bite, it was pure bliss. I couldn't resist and devoured the sandwich in no time. The hot tea served as a nice touch, even in the scorching heat. I couldn't resist and dug into the sandwich as soon as I sat down, savoring every bite of the delicious meal.

First of all, this is not a restaurant or eatery, but a butcher shop. It's interesting to see such a shop listed on Tabelog (a restaurant review site), but I guess it's fine. This time, I bought (or received) the "teriyaki rice" dish for about 2000 yen and had it at home. They use good quality meat, that's for sure. However, the seasoning was a bit lacking. If they want to focus on the simple taste of the meat, they should add a bit more salt and pepper. If they want to serve it with sauce, a stronger sauce would be better. I personally prefer to eat it with sauce, so I added some steak sauce that I had at home, and it was delicious! I understand that as a butcher shop, they want to showcase the taste of the meat, but honestly, it felt a bit lacking in flavor. The 2200 yen pork cutlet sandwich was more to my liking. Pork cutlet sandwiches need to be eaten fresh, so it's a bit challenging, isn't it? Oh, I wonder if bento boxes are the same way?

I wanted to eat croquettes so I came to buy some. The black beef croquette here is filled with plenty of minced meat and deliciously fluffy potatoes. Highly recommended. They also have other fried favorites like minced cutlets, skewered cutlets, beef cutlets, pork cutlets, etc. Their sandwich options are also famous. You might be surprised to find sandwiches at a butcher shop, but once you try them, you'll understand why. The beef cutlet sandwich is amazing. It's very filling. They also offer beef tenderloin cutlet, pork tenderloin cutlet, minced cutlet, steak, etc. in sandwich form. They even have an egg and ham mixed sandwich. It was a delicious meal.

I want to explore more of the area around Kyoto Central Wholesale Market, so I headed to the market without checking the closing days. I first stopped by Chanko Ryogoku, but they were closed for the Bon holidays. As I entered the market, I noticed some cars moving around, but it was quiet and deserted. I realized it must be a closing day. Disappointed, I made my way to buildings 10-12, but all the shops were closed. It dawned on me that it's common for markets to close during the fishing off-season, when there are fewer fish available. I later found out that both Kyoto and Tsukiji markets were closed from August 14th to 16th. Nearby shops usually close on market closing days, so it was no surprise that most shops in the area were not open. Feeling a bit frustrated with my lack of foresight, I decided to continue my search. I remembered seeing an article about a place called "go baaan" in a free paper, which featured their beef cutlet sandwich. I stumbled upon the place and decided to try their beef cutlet sandwich. The shop owner kindly welcomed me and served me freshly made sandwich. The sandwich was delicious, with a thick cutlet and a crunchy texture. The bread, as mentioned in a magazine, was made without using any water to enhance the flavor of the meat. The combination of beef cutlet, basil, and spicy sauce was delightful. I devoured the sandwich and left the place feeling satisfied and happy. It was an unexpected encounter with a great dish.
