Days in May are unseasonably chilly - on the way back from Osaka, I decided to buy some Kashiwa-mochi! The first shop I went to in Kameoka was sold out, but luckily I found another shop that was open. It was a traditional shop with a wide variety of sweets, and I was able to get a pack of three Kashiwa-mochi. Since I couldn't eat them all by myself, I stopped by an acquaintance's house on the way back and gave one to an 83-year-old lady who was enjoying some canned shochu and snacks before 5 o'clock. Back home, I enjoyed sushi for dinner and then had the Kashiwa-mochi for dessert. The green leaves of the Kashiwa-mochi had a nice aroma even in the car. I also realized that I hadn't put up any decorations for Children's Day, so I took out some miniature decorations from the storage room. In my hometown, we used to have a big samurai helmet decoration, carp streamers in the garden, and Kashiwa-mochi and Chimaki. When I was a child, I wasn't a big fan of sticky mochi, but now I appreciate it. The soft mochi with sweet red bean paste inside is a perfect treat for the season. I hope to continue enjoying seasonal treats like this even as I grow older.

Opposite Kuriya. It's so close that it could be considered a battleground for fights. Both places seem to have a long history. Here, there is mention of chestnut sweets like chestnut manju. There is also a mention of the path of Shin-gaku, which is the old road of Kameoka. It's a bit far to walk to. You can feel the history. There was also a flag for Kashiwa mochi. Alright, let's buy some from here as well and entered the shop. The inside of the shop is beautiful. It's brighter here. They explain the expiration date with color-coded stickers, making it easy to understand. The kashiwa mochi comes in a pack of three. I chose the red bean paste filling. The mochi is large and delicious. It would be nice to come back during the Tamba chestnut season next time.

This is a traditional Japanese confectionery shop located about a 10-minute walk from JR Kameoka Station. It's tucked away from the main street, so it may be a bit hard to find. The shop is not very big and is frequented more by locals rather than tourists. There is another confectionery shop across the street. The shop offers a decent variety of products, similar to those found in larger shopping centers. I didn't try a lot of different sweets, so I can't comment on the taste, but overall it seemed pretty average.
