A cafe located about a 10-minute walk from Kyoto Station. It is located in a building northeast of the intersection of Shichijo Kawaramachi. The name "papillon" comes from French, meaning "butterfly". The concept is that through sweets, butterflies deliver emotions and joy. You order on the first floor and go up the stairs to the second or third floor for seating. We tried the Basque cheesecake (660 yen) and a hot cafe latte. The Basque cheesecake had a crispy surface with a rich and moist cheese filling. It paired well with the coffee. They also offer a reservation-only private afternoon tea experience for 3000 yen per person for 1 hour and 30 minutes (limited to 4 slots per day).

Monday 18:00 to Papillon. It's a one drink minimum. They are open until 8:00 pm. When I went, some cakes were sold out. Cafe latte 605 yen, macaron 300 yen. The macaron had some cracks on the surface, so it was discounted to 300 yen. I was seated at 18:07 and my order was brought to me. Milk and sugar are by the water server. The cafe latte had fluffy foam and came in a heat-resistant glass. The macaron had a satisfying sweetness. The decor, including the afternoon tea room, was enjoyable to look at. Thank you for the meal.

I was on a bus when I saw a shop that seemed to have really delicious sweets, so I searched it online. I felt like I would regret it if I didn't visit, so I went there. The entrance was narrow and the atmosphere was somewhat grim, but there was also a slightly fairytale-like aura in the shop and with the owner. In the showcase, there were Basque cheesecake, matcha Basque cheesecake, 2 types of baked goods, and about 6 flavors of gelato. I didn't hesitate and ordered the "Basque cheesecake" for dine-in. For dine-in, it was a one-drink system, so I ordered a cappuccino. For dine-in, you have to go up the stairs to the 4th floor. By the way, the restroom is on the 2nd floor. Since it was on the 4th floor, I thought I would have to bring my order up from the 1st floor, but they brought it to me while I was waiting on the 4th floor. The Basque cheesecake looked ordinary at first glance. When I tried it, the deliciousness of the cheese and the smooth texture in my mouth stood out. At first, I thought it was a bit simple and bland, but by the third bite, it started to deepen. And when I had eaten more than half, I felt like I might get addicted to its deliciousness. The way this Basque cheesecake is made, which seems simple but actually isn't easy to replicate, impressed me. It made me think this shop must be popular for this deliciousness. As for the cappuccino, I actually haven't had it much before, so I can't judge if it was delicious or not. So I will refrain from commenting on it. Personally, I will just say that I enjoyed drinking it. They also have gelato, so I would like to try it as well. If a man visits this shop during a trip to Kyoto, I think the ladies would be really pleased. By the way, I am traveling alone.

On the way back from Kyoto Station, I stopped by here, which seems to be a cafe with a rooftop. I didn't dine in this time, but opted for takeout. I purchased the newly released "One Bite Butter Cookie Sandwich Can" (1000 yen for 2 cans). Each can contains 8 bite-sized butter sandwich cookies that are so delicious and moist. Once you start eating them, you won't be able to stop. Even just one sandwich cookie is enough to savor the flavor. I heard they also have a cookie assortment in a lovely can now, which I would love to try as well.

Visited on a Saturday around 3 PM. No other customers were there when I arrived. Upon entering, I went straight to the showcase to choose a cake and then placed my order and paid at the counter. The building has 4 floors, with the 2nd and 3rd floors for afternoon tea, and the 4th floor and rooftop for the café seating. I chose a seat on the 4th floor at the counter, following a seating chart provided by the staff. The restroom is located on the landing of the staircase. The interior is small and mainly white, with K-POP music playing softly in the background. The staff brought my order to my seat shortly after. I ordered a Hot Café Latte (605 yen) and a Basque Cheesecake (660 yen). The latte had a fluffy milk foam, and the cheesecake had a nice texture with a side of whipped cream and strawberry jam. The sunlight coming in was beautiful. It was a pleasant experience to have the place almost to myself.

Basque cheesecake 660 yen
Blended coffee 550 yen
This Korean-style cafe, which opened in September 2021, is all white and run by university students. The entire building has been transformed into a cafe, with a butterfly logo as its symbol! The interior design is excellent, showcasing the great sense of style of the university students who opened the shop. It's so cute!
First, you place your order and choose your seat on the first floor. The cafe has cafe spaces on the 4th floor and rooftop, while the 3rd floor is a private space for afternoon tea. The cafe space on the 4th floor has one table for two and a counter with four seats. From the rooftop, you can see Kyoto Tower.
Since only the counter on the 4th floor was available, I chose that and climbed the stairs to the 4th floor. It still seems like a hidden gem of a cafe, but with very limited seating, it's possible that there may not be available seats. I ordered the Basque cheesecake, but there were also other options like gelato and macarons. It was a quiet, cozy, and stylish cafe!

A mysterious cafe with a small entrance and a blue butterfly pattern. Located between Kyoto Station and Nanajo Station, open until 8pm. One drink minimum for dine-in. Order on the first floor, with seating on the third and fourth floors. The rooftop is also stylish. Recommended on sunny days. Cakes are around 660 yen each. They also have gelato.
