(2022, 10/09: Visit) The breakfast provided at the hotel can be hit or miss (last year was a miss...), so this time, I decided to venture a bit (just one station away...) and visit this place located a 5-minute walk from Gojo Station. The restaurant has a unique name, but it turns out to be a Japanese-owned establishment in Brooklyn, New York, that specializes in using fresh fish imported from Japan for a Japanese-style breakfast. The sign of the restaurant has no name, just the word "fish" written in a bowl, very simple. The exterior blends well with the surroundings, with white walls and wooden frames subtly giving off a stylish atmosphere. Despite being early in the morning, customers keep coming in one after another! Those without reservations are told they will be seated around noon, leading to many giving up... It seems that in Kyoto, reservations are a must everywhere! The interior, typical of Kyoto, is long and narrow in the back, with a mix of counter and table seats. The first floor was full, so we were guided to the second floor up a spiral staircase. Although not spacious, it had a cozy and pleasant atmosphere. The menu is simple, with three options, mainly consisting of a set meal with fresh fish sourced from the central market in Kyoto, along with one soup and three side dishes. There is also a set meal with one soup and five side dishes, and a luxurious version with one soup, five side dishes, and two types of fish! In addition, there are various a la carte options, including "clay pot mixed rice," and the option to change the rice for an additional fee, offering a wide variety of choices! We were surprised by the attentive staff who smoothly recommended the menu options without hesitation! We chose the "one soup, five side dishes" set, where you can choose from two types of fish. Since our family has embraced the sharing culture, we decided without hesitation to have both the "sea salt-based sea bream" and the "soy sauce-based autumn salmon"! The one plate with a small portion of each side dish, including the main fish, made our excitement soar even for non-fish lovers! In addition, the beautifully cooked rice and the hearty miso soup were served! The sea bream, perfectly cooked with a great texture, and the fragrant autumn salmon, both were undeniably delicious, truly living up to their role as the main dish. I will skip the impressions, but each side dish also shined with its unique flavors! However, what left a bigger impact on us was the fundamental "rice" and "miso soup"! The aroma of freshly cooked rice and the carefully prepared broth were essential for enhancing the flavors of the fish! This breakfast was quite a splurge, but it was an overwhelming display of authenticity, packed with a visually appealing and equally delicious one soup, five side dishes! \(^o^)/
