This is a review of Ippudo Kyoto Porta, located in the underground east area of Kyoto Porta near Kyoto Station. I think it's a great place to enjoy delicious Hakata-style tonkotsu ramen. I ordered the simple White Maru Original Flavor (Harigane) with a side of white rice. I also added free toppings of pickled ginger. As of September 2023 (tax included), the White Maru Original Flavor costs 850 yen, white rice costs 160 yen, and an extra small serving of noodles costs 100 yen. The free toppings used to be served in small dishes, but now they come in plastic containers as part of a condiment set on the table. When I asked for pickled ginger as a topping, it was served in a plastic container, allowing me to add the amount I prefer. The ramen was served with the pickled ginger, white rice, and noodles. The noodles were thin and straight, cooked to my preferred firmness of Harigane, although they tend to stretch when taking photos. The soup of the White Maru Original Flavor is a simple tonkotsu broth, slightly rich without any gaminess. This time, I detected a slight lingering aroma on the noodles. The toppings included chashu pork, bean sprouts, green onions, wood ear mushrooms, pickled ginger, and white sesame seeds. The tonkotsu soup was well-made as a Hakata-style ramen, with no strong gamy flavors. I enjoyed the white rice with pickled mustard greens on top, creating a flavorful combination. I added an extra small serving of noodles to fully enjoy the meal. Overall, I had a delicious experience with the Hakata-style tonkotsu ramen and pickled mustard greens rice.

Saturday dinner timing was off and Kyoto Aeon's food court was packed with students. Avanti's restaurant area had more shutters up and was also full, with slightly poor cost performance. So we moved and came here instead. Despite it being just before 9pm, we thought it would be less crowded, but it was full. We had to wait for about 3 groups, but it was better than the udon shop next door, so we decided to enter. We were seated in about 5 minutes. The namul and pickled mustard greens were much appreciated. They went well with the jasmine tea. We ordered the red marinated chashu pork with back fat and soup, and the combination with the red miso was good, allowing for flavor changes while eating. The pickled mustard greens also paired perfectly. We intended to eat quickly, but the rice also went well with the ramen, so we ended up ordering more. We ended up eating 3 free refills of rice, but it was easy to eat. It wasn't exactly fluffy, but it was sufficient for a ramen shop with free refills. They seem to manage seating arrangements well, as the turnover at the counter seats is fast. The booths were mostly occupied by families, which is understandable. There were many foreign tourists, but the English menu made ordering quick. It's a reliable place to eat in Porta. I wish they would bring back the old house ramen they used to have.

I was impressed by how the noodles, soup, and chashu are all perfectly balanced together. Instead of eating each separately, the flavors come together as one complete dish. When I finished the noodles and was drinking the soup, I felt the harmony of the three elements. The weekday lunch set came with a small gyoza and rice, but I mentioned that I didn't need the rice. However, the price remained the same. The service was fast, and even though there was a line outside, I was able to get a table quickly.

I have been to Ippudo many times, but this is my first post, so I ordered the "Noodle Special Spicy Vegetable" for 1250 yen. The base is tonkotsu broth, and the noodles have been changed from medium to thin. The toppings include meat miso, tempura bits, fried onions, and this time I added vegetables on top. It looks spicy, but the "special spicy" uses habanero, if I remember correctly what the staff said in the past. Adding vegetables increases the volume, so you can be satisfied without getting an extra serving of noodles. The spicy soup goes well with the toppings, and the sesame bomb for flavor change also complements it. The spiciness is similar to level 15 at CoCo Ichibanya, not painfully spicy, but enough to make you sweat. It's just the right amount of spiciness for those who like spicy food. Thank you for the meal!

I went to Ichiran because there is no Ichiran in Shiga. It was crowded as it was lunchtime. I ordered the Hakata-style white noodles, Hakata-style dumplings, and mentaiko rice. The other one was the limited edition miso ramen. It's a safe taste! There are many types of ramen like this, but this one may be among the top in tonkotsu flavor. Thank you for the meal!

The deliciousness of stability!! I went just before lunchtime on a holiday, and the restaurant was packed. However, due to the number of seats and the nature of a ramen shop, we were able to be seated quickly. This time, I had the Shiramaru Ramen. I was able to experience the reassuring taste of Ippudo after a long time and I was very satisfied! Thank you for the meal!

Today, I had work near Kyoto Station for the first time in a while, and for lunch, I went to Ichiran which I haven't been to in a long time. I used to frequent the one in Namba, but this was my first time at the Porta branch. As expected during lunchtime, there was a line. There were quite a few foreign customers, so it seems like tonkotsu ramen is recognized worldwide? I ordered the white ramen set with mini gyoza and rice. The complimentary tea was hojicha, which I like, although not as much as at Katsukura. I asked for my ramen to be firm, so it was harder than I expected, but it was still good. The soup didn't have any unpleasant smell, and I understand why it's popular with foreigners. The gyoza was average, but I was happy that there was complimentary spicy bean sprouts and pickled mustard greens on the table. It was just the right amount for lunch. Thank you for the meal!

Located in the underground shopping area Porta in front of Kyoto Station. Visited on a weekday around 12:00 PM and there was a line of about ten people. While waiting in line, we were given menus and I ordered the "Akamaru Shinaji ramen for 890 yen". After about 15 minutes of waiting, we were seated. It took another 10 minutes for the ramen to arrive. It felt like a long wait even though we had ordered first. Due to COVID, they provided pepper and sesame individually. Pickled vegetables, red pickled ginger, and spicy bean sprouts were available upon request and served in small dishes. The ramen was delicious as always, with a comforting taste and no unpleasant smell despite being tonkotsu-based. When we ordered an extra serving of noodles, it only took about a minute for it to be served. Fast service! It had been a while since I last had it, but it was still delicious. Thank you for the meal!

This is Ippudo located in the underground shopping area Porta in Kyoto. It is always crowded because of its convenient location. Especially during lunchtime and weekend nights, there are more than 20 people waiting in line. Ippudo is known for its tonkotsu ramen, with three types of soup base: Shiromaru, Akamaru, and Karaka. I ordered the Shiromaru, which is the original flavor. It is a milky soup that brings out the essence of tonkotsu after 18 hours of cooking and a full day of aging, paired with thin noodles. I found this ramen to be more salty than the tonkotsu flavor. In the end, I ate 10 extra servings of noodles before heading home. I will upload the video of this experience on YouTube late tonight. I am a competitive eater YouTuber under the name "Medium Eater." Please subscribe to my channel.

In the eastern area, there are some new shops and Porta has changed a bit. I visited Porta on a weekday before 11 am, just as lunch service was starting. I was torn between the nearby Miyazaki Sakaba and Ippudo, but ended up choosing Ippudo since it had been a while. I sat at the counter, ordered a simple set of "Hakata Ramen" and "Mentaiko Rice". The Hakata Ramen arrived first, looking quite simple and plain. The appearance was a bit underwhelming, especially with the peeling off of the "Ippudo" print on the bowl. The ramen had a simple taste, with thin straight noodles that were a bit firm. The broth was not too heavy, with a subtle pork bone flavor. I felt like something was missing, so I asked for pickled ginger. The "Mentaiko Rice" was just okay, adding unnecessary carbs to the meal. Ippudo used to be a famous place for Hakata Ramen, but this lunch experience left me a bit disappointed. Maybe I should have gone to the Miyazaki Sakaba next door instead.

I felt like eating ramen for free, so I searched around Kyoto. I had a lunch set with ramen, gyoza, and rice. The rice was refillable. The ramen that was mistakenly brought to me had thick slices of chashu and was delicious. The noodles were thin and disappeared quickly. For those who want to eat a lot, I recommend getting an extra serving of noodles. I could also request condiments like pickled ginger and mustard greens, so I could enjoy changing the flavors. It was a delightful meal.

I always used to visit the Ippudo restaurant behind Daimaru department store in Shijo, but it has now been replaced by another shop. Feeling a bit lonely, I decided to visit the Porta branch for the first time. As expected, being right below Kyoto Station, the shop was bustling with customers carrying large bags. I ordered the Akatama Shinaji ramen. Due to the effects of the coronavirus, they didn't have the usual spicy bean sprouts and pickled mustard greens available. When I asked the staff, they brought me a small portion. The spicy bean sprouts were still delicious as always. The ramen itself was just as good as the Shijo branch, with its sweet tonkotsu soup. I started with the firm noodles and then ordered a regular noodle refill, leaving me feeling full. Thank you for the meal.

I also love ramen, but mentaiko rice is delicious too♡ Suddenly felt like eating Ichiran ramen and came here haha. They have solid COVID-19 measures in place!! It's sad that the nearest Ichiran is 2 hours away haha. But if I crave it again, I'll definitely come back!!

Hakata tonkotsu ramen makes you crave it, right? #Ippudo Kyoto Porta store. It's been a while since I had Ippudo, and my favorite is the Shiromaru Classic. The joy of getting extra firm noodles with this ultra-thin noodle is amazing. Coating the thin noodles with the rich, milky tonkotsu broth, slurping up tasty wood ear mushrooms, spicy mustard greens, pickled ginger, and sesame seeds, enjoying the unique Hakata ramen toppings was a delightful reminder of a great night in Hakata. When things settle down with COVID, I really want to go to many places and eat delicious food. I also want to try Ichiran again and maybe Miyoshi in Kiyamachi! I'm starting to get hungry again. Where should I go for ramen next? Thank you for the meal!

Due to the snow at the end of the year, I couldn't leave my house, so my New Year's Eve meal ended up being soba noodles. If I had known, I should have waited in that long line at Takabashi! This visit was actually for work. Of course, there are many delicious ramen shops in Kyoto! However, due to the timing of work, my personal favorite is Ippudo! The taste is consistent at every location, always delicious. But let me just complain about this particular store. I chose the normal firmness for the noodles, but they ended up being a bit too powdery, not like the usual Ippudo noodles. The store on Meiji Street in Ebisu used a pot and a flat sieve, but maybe this store is different? I am a dedicated Ippudo fan, so I was very disappointed as I always thought all locations were the same. m(_ _)m

We decided to grab lunch at a place in the underground area of Kyoto Station, and there were three of us waiting in line. We sat at a counter that was separated from others, and instead of buying food tickets, the food was brought to us on trays with chopsticks, small plates, and seasonings. Each person's order was made individually, so we had to wait a bit since the place was full. I ordered the shiromaru ramen with extra toppings of chashu pork and green onions. I quickly finished the shiromaru and ordered an extra serving of noodles with a firm texture. After adding plenty of sesame seeds, I finished my meal. Even when in a hurry, it's important to get an extra serving of noodles.

The store I usually go to closed down, so I went to a different branch in Yokohama where I had only been once before. They had infection control measures in place like acrylic boards. The classic Hakata-style ramen with thin noodles and pork bone broth was consistent and delicious. The chashu today seemed even softer than usual. The soup seemed thicker and richer than before, but it was still so tasty that I wanted to drink it all. There are many other food options at Kyoto Station, but if I ever crave ramen again, I would want to come back here.

I visited Ippudo at Kyoto Station! Well, it goes without saying that it's a famous ramen shop, right? At first, I was excited when Ippudo opened in Umeda, but after going several times, it became more familiar (laughs). I ordered the Shiromaru Classic! The Akamaru is not bad either, but I feel like the taste is the same everywhere when you add red miso, like with Ichiran (laughs), so I generally don't order that type of ramen! When the ramen arrived, I took a sip of the soup... Hmm, the unchanged taste! It has a lightness that is not too light (I personally think Ippudo is on the lighter side ★). I finished it in no time! I prefer the chashu with more fat! I usually drink green juice and watch my health, so in times like this, I want to indulge without worrying about it!! Thank you to those who liked my comment even though it wasn't that great (laughs). Thank you for the meal!

I visited around 20:15 on a regular day. There was one customer before me. I ordered the Vegetable Ramen for 1020 yen. Even though I requested half noodles, it was served with a huge portion! I'm not sure if they gave extra vegetables or didn't reduce the amount of noodles. I chose the second firmness level for the noodles, but I think it could have been a bit firmer.

I often eat at Ichiran in Umeda, and I discovered it at Kyoto Station so I went in. It was a bit chilly that day, so I ordered my favorite Akamaru Shinaji with firm noodles (850 yen). As always, it was delicious. I also had a second helping of noodles (130 yen). It was so tasty!
