The day before this day, I couldn't sleep. So, in the morning, I went to the city to watch the movie "Spring Has Sprung". After that, I watched "City Hunter: Angel Dust" back to back. I then went to Aeon Mall and couldn't decide what to eat, but ended up ordering the normal ramen. I had to eat quickly because the next movie was starting soon. The ramen was a light soy sauce flavor with thin noodles. It was nostalgic in appearance. I took a sip of the soup and it was really light. The noodles were thin and had a good texture. The basic toppings were enjoyable, but it didn't feel like Kyoto ramen. Overall, I think ordering the karashi soba at this restaurant would be a better choice. The gyoza that came with the set was just average. I also heard that the Hamamuraya in Kyoto Hachijo-guchi offers tonkotsu miso ramen, which I wanted to try instead. This time was a whirlwind tour, so I didn't have many options. But I have to commend myself for squeezing in the ramen.

I entered "Hamamura" at the Ion Mall Kyoto as soon as it opened and had lunch. I wanted to try the famous Kyoto Chinese dish, "Karashi Soba." Karashi Soba is known for places like Ho'ei-rou in Shinkyogoku, Ryuhou in Shijo, Heian in Gion, and Hosei in Kawaramachi Nijo. Hamamura is one of the top 5 selected restaurants for Karashi Soba. The combination of the sharp Karashi flavor that tingles the nose and the Chinese noodles mixed with the sauce creates the best umami flavor that spreads in the mouth. This is a must-try dish for Kyoto Chinese cuisine. This time, I chose Tianjin rice as a set, and it was a delicious meal.

Today, my family of three visited this restaurant to have a meal together. The spacious interior resembled a family restaurant, and we sat at a vacant table to look at the menu. I ordered the "Chinese soba" (935 yen) with the "A set (half fried rice)" (264 yen) and "2 pieces of fried chicken" (165 yen) using a tablet. The Chinese soba bowl came with chashu, menma, and chopped green onions, with a classic appearance. The soup was slightly thick soy sauce-based with a hint of nuttiness and a strong umami flavor. It had a generous amount of oil, acidity, and saltiness, creating a mild soy sauce base with a smooth taste. The thin noodles had a good bite and paired well with the soup. The chashu was made from fatty pork belly, giving it a rich and tender texture. The "half fried rice" included carrots, ham, and chopped green onions, with a strong egg flavor and fluffy fried rice. The "fried chicken" had a well-seasoned and tender chicken with a hint of ginger and soy sauce aroma. While the noodle menu items may not seem very affordable on their own, the set menu options are plentiful and reasonably priced, allowing for various combinations.

I ordered the Ankake soba and half cha-han set. I usually go to eat the famous Karashi soba, but this time I ended up ordering something different. They offer additional items like gyoza to add to the set, but I wish they would include egg spring rolls as an add-on option. I want to try it, but getting a whole portion of egg spring rolls as part of the set is too much for one person.

I was underestimating the spiciness of the Hamamura super spicy tantanmen with seasoned egg. It was insanely spicy. When I was younger, I could handle extreme spiciness, but I can't handle it like that anymore. Behind the spiciness, there was a deliciously nutty sesame flavor hidden. It was very delicious!

Hamamura is famous for its spicy soba noodles. I visited their hidden gem location in Aeon Mall and ordered a set of chilled Chinese noodles and half-fried rice. The chilled Chinese noodles were soy sauce-based with a hint of ginger flavor, making it easy to eat with the thin noodles. I wasn't expecting much from the fried rice in the set, but when I tried it, it was fluffy and each grain of rice was coated individually. The egg was soft and delicious! I will definitely come back again.

I arrived at the restaurant on Friday night before 8 o'clock, had to wait to write my name for a table. Once I placed my order, the service was smooth and efficient. I had eaten here half a year ago at Kyoto Station, but this time I visited this location. The atmosphere here is similar to a food court in a shopping mall, with many young people around, making it slightly lively. The seating arrangement is spacious, so I found it more comfortable and relaxing than Kyoto Station. I had the spicy soba noodles, which were delicious. Overall, I was satisfied with my meal!

I visited "Hamamura" at the Aeon Mall in front of Kyoto Station. After having a drink, we decided to come here for some ramen to finish off the night. The exterior has a traditional Japanese atmosphere. Upon closer inspection, it seems like a Chinese restaurant from the front. There was a poster for "karashi soba" outside, which I remember seeing on a TV show before. The interior had calm booth seating. Since it was close to closing time, the place was mostly empty. Despite just having a drink, we ordered highballs. We placed our order using a tablet, and of course, we had to try the karashi soba. My companion also ordered half-fried rice. The karashi soba cost ¥1320, which is quite pricey. It arrived after a short wait! It looked like yakisoba with a sauce. I took a bite... it was slightly spicy with a hint of mustard. I was expecting it to be more intense, but there was no strong heat that hit my nose. The level of spiciness is probably manageable for most people. The portion size was decent. I tried a bite of the half-fried rice, which was quite oily. Overall, it was my first time trying karashi soba, and I found it to be less spicy than expected but still delicious. Rating: ★3.5. I imagine that the experience can vary depending on the restaurant. I have opportunities to visit Kyoto occasionally, so I look forward to trying karashi soba at different places. Thank you for the meal. 2023.04

Karasoba is famous, right? I went there and it was amazing! I thought the sauce would be spicy, but it's actually infused in the noodles. When you slurp up the noodles, it's such a satisfying feeling, like with ramen. The sauce is generously poured over the noodles, so you can enjoy it from start to finish. Plus, they use a variety of ingredients, so it must be healthy, right? It has become one of my favorite foods.

I wanted to have a light dinner at the food court, but it was still noisy because the partitions were set up and there were quite a few customers. I decided to choose an individual store where it would be easier to have a conversation. I had tantanmen for the first time in a while. It's nice to be able to eat this kind of Kyoto-style Chinese food at Aeon Mall.

I had the spicy soba! It was affordable and filling, with a good amount of food. It was delicious, but I thought there was a bit too much noodles, and personally, I wish the spiciness was stronger. However, I would like to try other menu items as well.

I went to "Chinarestaurant Hamamura" for the first time in a while. Although there were many tourists in Kyoto, I went to Aeon Mall Kyoto. Surprisingly, there was a little wait during lunchtime before entering. We ordered "Karashi Soba" for 1188 yen and I ordered "Suan La Tang Mian" for 935 yen with a half order of Tianjin rice for 220 yen. We shared the dishes. First, the famous "Karashi Soba" in Kyoto was delicious! It's a taste that gets you hooked. The Suan La Tang Mian also had a great taste, and we added some vinegar to enhance it. The Tianjin rice was simply delicious. It's amazing how you can enjoy such tasty food at such a reasonable price. I'm grateful!

I visited for dinner. I had originally planned to go to Hamamura at Kintetsu Miyakomichi, but it was unexpectedly closed. So I ended up here instead. It was quite crowded, and I waited in line for about 20 minutes. I ordered the famous Karashi Soba for 1155 yen and a mini Tenshin Don for 200 yen. The Karashi Soba was spicier than I had imagined, but it was delicious. I don't remember Karashi Soba being available at Hamamura when I was a child.

Visited in November 2022. Started with the Shiso Soba at 3:40 PM for 1,188 yen, followed by the Tianjin rice with soup for 660 yen, Cantonese spring rolls for 660 yen, and Hamamura's shumai (5 pieces) for 649 yen. Ordered two YEBISU draft beers for 660 yen each, two lemon sours for 495 yen each, and a Dewar's highball for 495 yen. The total bill came to 5,467 yen. Bought some sabazushi at Suehiro and headed to Kyoto Station. Had a last drink before boarding the Shinkansen. Wanted to try the Shiso Soba, so ended up here. Originally planned to visit the famous shops at Kintetsu Department Store near Kyoto Station, but found out they were closed. Luckily, the Ion Mall where this restaurant is located was just across the street. Arrived before 4 PM. The cute signboard with Hamamura's name shaped like a face caught my eye. The restaurant had a casual atmosphere with few customers. Sat at a table in the corner. Ordered a draft beer, Shiso Soba, Tianjin rice, spring rolls, and shumai. The beer arrived with coarse foam. The Tianjin rice was served with egg soup, topped with a bit of crab meat. The soy-based sauce was light and the fluffy egg had a gentle soy flavor. The Shiso Soba was visually appealing with shrimp and a vibrant color. Mixing it well was a bit challenging due to the thick sauce. It had a subtle spiciness from the mustard, which I enhanced with additional mustard from the mini packet on the table. The crispy lettuce and bamboo shoots added a nice texture. The meat was chicken breast. The spring rolls were meaty and crispy, and I enjoyed them. The shumai had a tender meat filling with some coarsely ground parts that were chewy. The Dewar's highball was refreshing and complemented the meal well. Overall, the dishes were good but on the pricier side. Enjoyed Chinese cuisine for two consecutive days in Kyoto. Having a drink before boarding the Shinkansen is always a great idea, and Chinese food is a reliable choice for that.

Everyone, have you heard of Karashi Soba? It's a famous dish. So, I visited this establishment. It was past 2 p.m., but there was a 20-minute wait at this renowned restaurant. People from Kansai region kept looking at the impactful logo of "Hamamura" a few times. There was only one choice on the menu, but I also wanted to try the fried rice. I ordered a set. The food was served in about 10 minutes. It was noodles with mustard mixed in and a generous amount of toppings. Mix it all together and enjoy. The mustard had a nice kick to it. The balance with the toppings was amazing. And there were plenty of toppings. The mustard was a great accent, but personally, I would have liked a bit more spiciness to really blow my mind. It was definitely tear-inducing. The fried rice was also top-notch, nice and fluffy. No doubt about it. Wow, I'm amazed that there are still such delicious noodles out there.

I ordered the karashi soba. They told me to mix it well before eating. The broth doesn't have a strong mustard flavor and is not spicy. It seems like the mustard is mixed in with the noodles. At first, I was surprised by the new taste, but as I kept eating, I got hooked. There were various ingredients in it and it was delicious.

I found a well-known traditional restaurant in Ion Mall. I had the opportunity to eat their spicy soba after a long time. It was yakisoba with a sauce made from Japanese mustard. The taste was good, but the atmosphere felt like a typical family restaurant in a shopping center. There were only part-time staff members. Next time, I will make sure to visit the main branch in Marutamachi for a more authentic experience.

I visited around 18:20 on Saturday. There were 4 groups of customers visible. The neighboring skewer shop was full.
- Char siu sweet and sour pork set for 1353 yen. The meat was good. The sauce was a bit sour. The salad dressing was nut-based, peanut-based. The soup was not as authentic as the Sichuan restaurant Porta, but it was hot and delicious. The rice had a texture that seemed to have been cooked in the morning.

On March 3, 2022, around 5:30 pm, there were quite a few customers, but we were seated promptly. It was my first visit, so I ordered the signature spicy noodles and Cantonese yakisoba. I was surprised by the spiciness, which was beyond my imagination. It wasn't the typical numbing heat of Sichuan peppers, but rather a sharp, piercing sensation that hit my brain with each bite. I struggled but found it to be an interesting experience. I added vinegar to mellow it out and mixed it with the peaceful sauce of the Cantonese yakisoba to get through it. For those sensitive to spice, I recommend asking for less spice or a separate dish.笑

After watching a movie at Kyoto Ion, I entered this restaurant. You can enjoy authentic Chinese cuisine at a reasonable price. The menu is very extensive and the flavors are rich and delicious! The restaurant is located in the food area, and the spacious interior makes it easy to enter. Definitely a great place to visit when you're really hungry at Kyoto Station!
