I don't usually come to this area, but I found a good deal at a shop, so I decided to extend my visit. It took me a while to find the shop as it was tucked away in a narrow alley. After wandering for about 30 minutes, I finally spotted it. The menu displayed various types of set meals, so I decided to give it a try. I arrived at the shop around 12:30 pm. The counter seats extended all the way to the back, and there were private raised tatami mat seats on the right side. There were about 7 customers at the counter, and since the end seat was empty, I took that seat. The shop had a somewhat old-fashioned feel to it. When I asked about the daily special, the staff seemed reluctant to check and seemed bothered to go ask in the back. It turned out to be bonito and grated yam on rice. Since I had eaten raw food the day before, I hesitated and looked at the menu inside the shop. The most popular item was the tempura set meal for 800 yen (excluding tax), so I decided to order that. It took about 10 minutes for the tempura to be served. It seemed freshly fried. The tempura consisted of shrimp (thin), shimeji mushrooms (small), pumpkin (small), sweet potato slices, and a small onion tempura (disappointing). The side dish was kinpira, and it came with miso soup (tofu and fried tofu) and pickled radish. There were no condiments on the counter, so I had to eat the tempura with the provided tempura dipping sauce only. I prefer salt, though. The tempura was indeed hot and freshly fried, but each ingredient was either too thin or too small, and the shrimp did not have any fishy smell but was a bit thin. If that's the case, the tempura at the nearby Santen restaurant is cheaper and more satisfying. The miso soup had a strong dashi flavor and was quite tasty. That was good. The kinpira seemed homemade but had a normal taste. After the meal, they served coffee and for some reason, peanuts. It felt like an old-fashioned coffee shop style. However, I don't think peanuts go well after a meal. Overall, I felt like I had set my expectations too high. It wasn't a shop worth going out of my way for, to be honest. Rating: 3.0
