I revisited the Kyoto products exhibition at JR Nagoya Takashimaya today, as yesterday's long lines were a hassle. Thankfully, there wasn't as much crowding today, so I was able to shop smoothly. One item I had to give up on yesterday due to the line was the mitarashi dango, which came in a set of 5 with yellow powder. The sauce had a taste I liked, and sprinkling the yellow powder made it even more delicious. The warabi mochi was a soft, rich matcha flavor, and I enjoyed it with red beans.

There is a sweets shop along the approach to Kiyomizu Temple. While mitarashi dango seems to be the specialty, I was craving soft serve on a hot day, so I ordered soft serve ice cream. It was cherry blossom season, so they had a cherry blossom flavor available, and I ordered a mix of matcha and cherry blossom (¥350). Soft serve ice cream around here usually costs ¥400, so it felt like a bit of a deal. There is seating inside the shop, so it's recommended for taking a break when you're tired.

There were sets available for dango and warabi mochi, but I chose the pair set. It came with two drinks. I felt like the matcha drink was a bit small in quantity. The mitarashi dango had warm sauce and was delicious. The warabi mochi came with two types of toppings, kinako and matcha, which was nice.

Warabi mochi assortment (1050 yen) The location is amazing with cherry blossom trees in spring. The warabi mochi comes in two flavors, matcha and kinako. It is dusted with powder, making it luxurious. It is light and fluffy, yet chewy. The sweetness is subtle, making it enjoyable even for those who don't like sweet treats. It has a satisfying texture and is a great choice for a snack. I liked it so much that I bought some as souvenirs.

Emotional and atmospheric, Fushinami is a traditional Japanese confectionery shop located on Sannenzaka, a famous slope in Kyoto. Established in 1979, it is relatively new among the long-standing establishments in Kyoto. This is the original store where it all began. Inside the shop, there is a bench where you can sit and enjoy your treats. This time, I tried their "mitarashi dango set of 3". The presentation is excellent. The dango are slightly small but very soft, with delicious sweet bean paste that blends perfectly. The crispy grilled exterior is also fragrant, making it a very tasty treat. It's rare to see dango dusted with yellow powder like this. It was the perfect snack to rejuvenate my tired body after visiting Kiyomizu-dera.

This is a review of an event held at Usui Department Store where I purchased the item "Assorted Red Two Types" for 1,050 yen (tax included) today. It includes 5 pieces each of mitarashi dango and zen-zai dango, totaling 10 pieces. I decided to purchase it at first sight after seeing the advertisement. The condition is to eat it on the day of purchase. It also comes with kinako that you can use according to your preference. The mitarashi dango was surprisingly easy to eat, even though I didn't have any memories of eating it in the past. Personally, I usually don't like mitarashi, but this one was good. The zen-zai dango had a subtle sweetness and elegant deliciousness. It gave a glimpse of the high quality of Kyoto's traditional sweets. Thank you for the meal. ^^/

The evening mountain event of the Gion Festival has ended, but during the month of July, I visited Yasaka Shrine and stopped by here. It's a convenient place for a short break, and I often use it. I'm happy that they now offer unsweetened cold matcha drinks. I've always thought that if I were the owner, I would definitely make unsweetened green tea, as I believe "green tea should be naturally bitter." It's a place where you can sit for a while and enjoy a cold drink, making it a casual and convenient stop. I particularly like the "horori" products from Fujina Mi. Thank you for the meal.

I visited a temporary shop in the Odakyu Department Store basement in Shinjuku, where they were selling warabi mochi and mitarashi dango. I bought the "Chano Tsuyu Horori" for 350 yen. It is a set of matcha agar and red bean paste. The ingredients include sugar (domestic), red beans, matcha, agar, and trehalose. The matcha agar melts in your mouth smoothly as the name suggests. It has a delicate and smooth texture. The red bean paste is quite sweet. It would be more elegant if the sweetness of the red beans was a bit more subtle. They provided a plastic spoon, but since I was taking it home, I didn't need it. It's a waste to keep accumulating unused spoons at home. It would be nice if they asked whether you need a spoon instead of automatically providing one.

Kyodango Fujinami, a shop with four locations in Kyoto, sells freshly made "odango." My wife bought me a set of three-color warabi mochi at a event. The set includes vibrant "kinako," "matcha," and "black sugar" flavors. The warabi mochi is soft, has a good texture, and each flavor is delicious. Thank you for the meal.

I wanted to try the Fukumame beans at Maruyama Park's "Enzan," but it was full, so I stopped by Fushinami, which was easy to walk into. It was hot, so I had a set of unsweetened ice matcha and matcha warabi mochi for 600 yen. It was a good value set for a little break. The warabi mochi here is not too sweet, which I like. I often buy "Horori" at the special section in the department store basement. The texture is different from regular matcha jelly, as the name suggests, it's "Horori"! If you're curious, be sure to try it.

At the top of Sannenzaka is a dumpling shop called Fujinami. When in Kyoto, you'll want to try their dumplings, which are popular among many tourists. The shop was bustling with customers. The small but fragrant mitarashi dumplings and the equally small matcha dumplings were both excellent in size, taste, and appearance.

Nagoya Takashimaya Food Maison has a temporary store in one corner. The taste is definitely delicious, but it didn't get me too excited. Hmm, maybe my expectations were too high. It didn't quite meet the standards for this foodie. On the other hand, Fushinami Sannenzaka Main Store is the best in the world! Thank you for the meal. Namaste.

I tried the delicious mitarashi dango this time, featuring Fuyuna's mitarashi dango. Each dango is not very big, but has a fragrant and smooth texture that stretches a bit when you bite into it. The mitarashi sauce is light and refreshing, with a clean and refreshing taste. Quite delicious! Next up is the "horori" dessert, which needs to be refrigerated. It is a sweet and refreshing matcha jelly set with agar, with a sweet red bean paste on top. Personally, I like to eat a little bit of the red bean paste first and then enjoy the matcha jelly to cleanse the palate.

I bought this as a souvenir for my family. There are several stores in Kyoto. The "warabimochi" is soft and the combination with sugar and kinako powder is excellent. It seems like it would be well-received by everyone. The amount of kinako powder is also just right. It is also available at Kyoto Station, so it seems versatile.

From Kiyomizu-dera, head towards Sannenzaka with the five-story pagoda as a landmark, near Kodai-ji Temple you will find "Fujinami" shop. When you place an order, they will grill the dango inside the shop and serve it with their special sauce. I couldn't pass by this famous shop, so I bought the Mitarashi set (500 yen) and the Warabi Mochi set (500 yen). I sat inside the shop and enjoyed the freshly grilled dango, which was warm, crispy on the outside, and coated with a gentle sweet sauce. The warabi mochi was not too sweet or too bitter, with a fine texture that melted in the mouth. The cold matcha ice cream, called Rakusui, had a slight sweetness and a subtle matcha flavor that paired well with the dango and warabi mochi. It was a well-thought-out combination that was not too sweet, allowing me to enjoy it until the last bite. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

I found these dango at a department store event. I was actually there to visit other shops, but on my way back I stumbled upon these affordable dango. They are bite-sized and not too sweet, but I feel like they lack a certain punch. The matcha flavor doesn't quite complement them well. Well, they were cheap so I'll let it slide. Thank you for the meal. Item purchased: Matcha dango 228 yen *It was cheaper because I used a discount from Isetan.

At the JR Nagoya Takashimaya, there was a booth at the "21st Daikyoto Exhibition". The Kyoto dango, a skewered dumpling with sugar soybean paste, is said to have originated from the dumplings served at the Shimogamo Shrine's "Mitarashi Festival" and "Aoi Festival" in Sakyo-ku, Kyoto. The small Kyoto dango was not too sweet or too salty, but had a refined taste. There was also "zenzai dango" available at some event venues. The assorted warabi mochi with three flavors - kinako, Uji matcha, and black sugar from Hateruma - had different tastes for each mochi. The warabi mochi was truly delicious.

In the selection of famous sweets, every Thursday, there are three types of Warabi mochi available: Kinako (soybean flour) Warabi mochi, Matcha (green tea) Warabi mochi, and Kokuto (brown sugar) Warabi mochi. The popular choice seems to vary each time, but I was curious about the Matcha flavor, so I decided to buy it. I ate it the next morning after purchasing it, even though the expiration date was that same day. Despite being kept in the refrigerator, it remained soft and chewy. The Matcha powder coating on it was delightful, and adding extra Matcha powder enhanced the flavor even more. I wonder if I should try the Kinako or Kokuto flavor next time. I also noticed they had tea dumplings, which I have never tried before. If I have the chance next time, I would like to taste those as well.

Oh, Kyoto's summer is so hot! After visiting Kiyomizu-dera, I took a break while strolling down Sannenzaka. I had the "Horori Set" for ¥550 (includes Mitarashi dango and matcha agar) and a sugar-free matcha ice cream for ¥350 tax included. When in Kyoto, you have to have matcha, right? The matcha agar was so refreshing and smooth, it melted in my mouth. The subtle sweetness of the anko was perfect. The warm Mitarashi dango and the ice-cold matcha ice cream provided a nice contrast and helped cool me down. It was delicious! Thank you for the meal!
