Prices are rising, but lunch is still 600 yen. Unfortunately, the tuna cutlet is no longer available. This is my first time trying the shrimp fry, but the portion is quite small. They focus on vegetable-based menus, which is healthy and good, so I come here to eat.

I visited around 11:45. It was almost full. There were many solo diners. The daily special for 600 yen is a good deal. The staff were working hard. They also sold sweets and small items.

The daily special menu for the day was ginger pork, stir-fried chingensai, potato salad, and vegetable salad. The miso soup, made with a flavorful broth, was delicious. The meal cost 600 yen. This restaurant is run by individuals with mental disabilities. There is a good amount of vegetables, yet the meal still leaves you feeling satisfied. I wonder how long this peaceful restaurant will continue to operate. After eating, I felt compelled to express my gratitude. Even someone like me, who tends to be critical, was touched.

Today, I came to eat omurice. You can choose between chicken and pickled vegetables, and I chose the unusual pickled vegetables. It is placed on top in a beautiful conical shape with a large radish. The fact that it is soaked in dashi is interesting. It has no spiciness, and it may be using pickled vegetables in a vegetable state rather than pickled. The gentle taste goes well with the Japanese-style dashi. However, it seems like the shape is too perfect and the egg coating is too neat, so it feels like it might be pre-made.

Sometimes it sells out, so I make a reservation for the daily special. Today's dish was deep-fried tofu, which means it was a day with very little animal protein. Along with that, there was thick shiso tempura, salad, boiled komatsuna, burdock, and a mixed dish with chickpeas. Although animal protein is often included, without it, this is a typical daily special menu here. It costs 600 yen. I think it's healthy because you can avoid eating too much fried food. If you want something more substantial, you should go for the Sakura set meal. This is an example of the lunch menu at Fushimi Momoyama.

I visited a cafe operated by the social welfare corporation Fushimi Fureai Welfare Association, which runs the supported employment type B Kyoto Fureai Workshop. I came to try their limited menu item, Katsu Curry, available only on Tuesdays. I arrived around 11:30 and the place was quite busy. I placed my order and had to wait quite a bit. It took about 17 minutes for the salad to arrive, and another 20 minutes for the curry. The rice was mixed grain and served in a modest portion. The curry was moderately spicy with a fruity flavor. I think they crushed vegetables and fruits to make the slightly grainy texture of the curry. The katsu was very hot as it was freshly fried. It was a layered pork cutlet, like a mille-feuille katsu. At 700 yen, it may be considered cheap compared to market prices, but it felt slightly expensive compared to other items on the menu at this restaurant.

I have a good idea of this dish now. The vegetable side dishes are plentiful, with lots of salad. The main meat dish may look small, but there's a decent amount. Some people may think it's not cheap for 600 yen because the portion is small, but you could always add a convenience store rice ball for extra. I think this is a reasonable amount of food for a person to eat. The taste is gentle.

I visited again. As announced on the blog, there was piano performance. The lady, of a certain age, played various popular and nostalgic songs. It seems like she has had some training. The daily special on this day was pork loin cutlet, stir-fried bok choy, potato salad, and miso soup. It seemed like they were pre-made, but not bad. The bok choy dish was quite elaborate. The potato salad had a nice kick of spices. The miso soup had a strong dashi flavor, with a slightly reduced saltiness, maybe for health reasons. The cutlet was also tasty. I ended up paying 650 yen instead of the usual 600 yen, but the staff didn't seem to be able to handle the situation. Just a heads up, this place is related to a welfare workshop, so be aware.

A cafe attached to a welfare workshop. It used to be a labor bank in the past. As far as I can remember, this labor bank was robbed twice. The interior of the cafe is decorated with plenty of wood, giving it a warm feeling. Most of the customers seem to be retired, and there are over ten people sitting at the counter, perhaps gathering for some event. I ordered the daily special for 600 yen. Oh, today is Tuesday, so maybe I should have gone for the Tuesday-only pork cutlet curry. Oh well. - Pork ginger stir-fry - Unlimited green peppers - Sweet potato and burdock root salad - Miso soup - Salad - Mixed grain rice The pork ginger stir-fry is made with pork belly. The miso soup has cabbage and onions, with a strong miso flavor. The rest of the dishes are pretty much as expected based on the menu names and photos. It's not bad, and I think it's reasonably priced. While eating, piano music starts playing, and when it ends, there's applause from the group of people gathering. It was a scene that showed it's a local salon where people come to relax.

Today's daily special was two tuna cutlets, spinach and mushroom ohitashi, potato salad, vegetable salad, multigrain rice, and miso soup. All of this for 600 yen. It's cheap! However, the portion size is a bit small, so the price seems fair. Considering the limited dining options in the area, this place is much appreciated. It's a cafeteria and cafe affiliated with a workshop. I've been coming here for about 10 years whenever I have business in Tanbabashi. Coffee is an additional 200 yen, but it's refreshing and not bad. You can have a healthy and delicious meal here. Sometimes they may not have a daily special... but it's a cozy place to relax.

The café has a spacious interior. It was not crowded, maybe due to COVID-19. The 600 yen daily special was sold out, so I opted for the Tuesday-only pork cutlet curry for 700 yen. It took over 10 minutes to be served, likely because they fried the cutlet to order. The rice was like a multigrain mix. The curry was spicy, with a dominant clove flavor. The pork cutlet was decently sized and tasty. I heard that the daily specials need to be reserved in advance, so I would like to try them sometime.

Daily lunch special for 550 yen. Lots of vegetables, light seasoning, and moderate portion size. Suitable for those concerned about health or on a diet. Not ideal for those looking for a large portion or hearty meal. The atmosphere inside the restaurant is bright and pleasant. Many local older ladies were dining there.

The café in the workshop is a place where the staff work hard and you feel like cheering them on. The daily lunch special can be enjoyed for just one coin, so it seems to be popular among locals. There were several elderly women dining alone. The ingredients and menu are home-cooked dishes that are considerate of health. The flavors are gentle and easy to eat. Today's lunch menu was fried houba (burdock root), simmered hijiki seaweed, cabbage and kombu (kelp) in sweet vinegar dressing. Everything was easy to eat and I finished it in no time. Adding a drink costs 680 yen, and adding a drink and cake costs 850 yen. The atmosphere in the café is a bit restless due to the work being done in the back, but the interior is bright and you can enjoy your meal in a fun atmosphere. Watching the customers patiently waiting for their turn at the register warmed my heart.
