I went to the restaurant around 5 pm on a holiday! I didn't make a reservation, but it was not crowded! Despite being a riverside dining place, I think the prices are quite reasonable. I ordered the chicken hot pot! It was around 2000 yen. It was delicious!!! I wasn't expecting much (lol), but there was no smell of chicken and it was very tender! The portion size was decent, and I was quite full just with that. As for the stone-grilled dish, it looked quite rare on other tables, so I think the hot pot is better. There is no seating charge, and it's a very reasonable restaurant! Highly recommended!!!

This is a restaurant in Pontocho that specializes in stone-grilled dishes and hot pots. The interior has table seating and a terrace at the back where you can enjoy the view of the Kamogawa River. The menu offers a variety of options, but this time I chose the pork shabu-shabu and also tried the beef. The beef for sukiyaki arrived, slightly thick-cut, and it was delicious with ponzu and sesame sauce. Thank you for the meal!

I want to go to the riverbed once... I went with my friends to Pontocho and stumbled upon this restaurant "Iwayaki Pontocho Kotoshi". We were lucky to be seated by the river, a truly rare experience! It was my first time at a riverbed in 4 years since the start of the pandemic. Although they advertise as a rock grill French restaurant, it felt more like a yakiniku place with dishes like conger eel hot pot and side dishes, giving it a "Kyoto vibe". Today's assorted side dishes for 1,650 yen, green salad for 836 yen, Meat Trio for 2,882 yen (premium black wagyu A5, Kyoto pork, local chicken), prosciutto for 1,540 yen, and the famous local chicken hot pot for 2,640 yen were all delicious. The hot pot and the Meat Trio were particularly satisfying. The riverbed setting adds to the touristy feel, but "Kotoshi" is definitely a delicious restaurant. With a wide variety of meat dishes, focusing on the Meat Trio is a good choice, and ordering a la carte might be better than the premium black wagyu course. It was a satisfying night at the riverbed after a long time! *I later found a "Himawari course" on Tabelog, but I have no idea what it includes... the name doesn't give any clues.

I was drawn to this place because they offer a variety of hot pots at affordable prices. Even though I didn't have a reservation, I was seated at a table with a view of the Kamo River and was able to enjoy a leisurely time. The pike conger hot pot had a gentle and delicious broth that I could drink like soup, and the delicate meat was irresistible. The duck sukiyaki had a strong duck flavor, showing the difference in taste compared to chicken. I definitely want to go back to this restaurant.

Grilled meat with the wind is the best. The aroma of the meat, as well as the scent of Kyoto. Enjoying them in your mouth and nose while sipping beer or other alcohol is pure bliss. It truly makes the trip to Kyoto worthwhile. The staff is very polite and the atmosphere is great. For those who want to enjoy grilled meat while looking at the river, this place is a must-visit.

Wandering about where to go for dinner with a former coworker, we decided on a restaurant because we both like duck. Looking at the menu, everything looked delicious, but we decided to stick to our original plan and go with duck. We were served with simmered eggplant and tofu as a small dish first. The gentle dashi flavor and the perfect texture of the tofu were delightful. Later, the main dish of duck sukiyaki arrived, and we were surprised to see that it was only one portion even though we had ordered the same thing. It came with plenty of vegetables and even udon noodles! There were about 5 slices of duck meat as well. It had been a while since I had sukiyaki, and it was delicious. We ran out of egg halfway through, but I wonder if they would have given us more if we had asked? The atmosphere of the restaurant was pleasant, and the manager, who seemed to be in charge, was friendly and talkative. Overall, it was a great dining experience.

On January 4, 2020, I was getting tired of lazing around at home, so I decided to go for a walk in Kyoto with my wife. The Keihan train was quite crowded as we headed to Gion Shijo. There were a lot of people on Shijo street too. We crossed the Kamo River and headed north, where we found many appealing restaurants. It was almost 2 pm, so we were past the peak lunch hour, but the streets were still bustling. Tired of New Year's dishes, we skipped traditional kaiseki and beef options. About 150 meters up from Shijo street, we stumbled upon Iwayaki Sakatomo, a place that seemed to offer both pork and beef dishes. Lucky for us, there was only one other group of customers inside. We were seated by the window overlooking the Kamo River. After checking the reviews on Tabelog, we decided to order the Kyoto Pork Ginger Steak for ¥1,970 and the Braised Pork for ¥2,070. Each set came with homemade tofu cream, daily side dish, salad, rice, miso soup, and homemade sherbet. The tofu was subtly sweet and smooth, while the side dish of chicken and egg was delicious. The Kyoto Pork, possibly belly meat, had a firm texture and rich flavor. The ginger sauce was tasty, but I wished there was a bit more of it. Overall, the location and atmosphere by the window made the meal even more enjoyable. It was a great lunch experience. Perhaps we should have tried the specialty grilled dishes, but we were satisfied with our choices. Thank you for the meal!

The dinner at the slightly luxurious restaurant in Pontocho, serving grilled dishes on hot stones, was a bit disappointing as the terrace seating was not available due to the season. The interior had a traditional yet modern feel, and the majority of the customers seemed to be foreign travelers. I chose the premium black wagyu beef sukiyaki set, but unfortunately, the sukiyaki was served in a hot stone pot and became cold after some time, which was a bit disappointing. The meat was also a bit tough. I wondered if this was just the norm for tourist areas.

Stone-grilled lunch! A hot iron plate is brought out, and you cook the meat on this hot plate! The meat turns out more tender and juicy compared to regular grilling! I made a reservation at a meat restaurant in Pontocho as recommended by a friend. The atmosphere is really nice and the view from the window of the Kamo River and the new Minami-za theater is amazing, typical of Kyoto. The salad is highly recommended, as well as the stone-grilled meat. They cook the meat on a hot stone, which is a unique experience. There are many foreign tourists visiting, and the prices are surprisingly reasonable. The meat platter with three kinds of meat was delicious, especially the chicken. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, and they suggested coming back during the riverside dining season.

I suddenly felt like going to Kyoto with my wife, so we chose to have lunch at a riverside terrace in Gion. We walked around and decided on a place called Kotoshi, where we had yakiniku cooked on hot stones. With a glass of white wine in hand, we enjoyed a slightly tipsy lunch in Kyoto. Watching people strolling through the streets and along the Kamo River while eating made us feel happy. The staff's thoughtfulness and care at the restaurant left us more impressed than just the meal itself. I am truly grateful. Thank you.

I had the braised pork belly grilled lunch set. It came with more food than I expected, and even included dessert. I think it was around 2000 yen. I was very satisfied with the lunch set.

The duck sukiyaki was delicious, with a good gamey flavor of duck meat. The tomatoes in the sukiyaki were a great addition, and the portion size was satisfying. The duck sukiyaki set with a beer cost 4000 yen. The restaurant had a nice view by the Kamo River, and I left feeling very satisfied.

I ordered a 5000 yen Ishiyaki (stone-grilled) lamp meat dish. What arrived was a hot iron plate (stone), a sauce similar to ponzu, and thinly sliced raw meat only. There were no side dishes or rice included, and I was a little surprised that this cost 5000 yen. The customers were all foreigners except for us, and it seemed like the restaurant was targeting tourists. I regret not checking out a good restaurant on Tabelog before walking in.
