麻くら
The other day, I went to Chikara no Yu for the first time in a while and found that the restaurant had been renovated. It used to be a place where noodles and rice dishes were the main items, but now it was divided into a noodle corner and a buffet corner. As you enter from inside Chikara no Yu, you will find the buffet corner behind the noodle corner. If you enter from the outside entrance, the buffet corner is right in front. I hesitated between the two and decided to have lunch at the noodle corner. There is a food ticket vending machine at the entrance of the restaurant, so you buy a ticket first and then hand it to the staff inside the counter. They will give you an alarm to let you know when your order is ready, and then you can pick it up yourself. It's a self-service style like a supermarket food court. Inside the restaurant, there were about 5-6 four-seater tables and some two-seater tables. It's better to check for an available table before buying the food ticket. There were tea and water available on the tables for self-service. I ordered a Mini Donburi Set (850 yen) and Zaru Udon (420 yen) to share with a friend. The Mini Donburi Set came with a mini tempura bowl, mini Tekka Donburi, mini udon, a small side dish (simmered hijiki seaweed), and pickles. The mini udon can be served hot or cold, and since I had also ordered Zaru Udon separately, I chose the hot option. The mini tempura bowl had shrimp, pumpkin, onion, eggplant tempura on top. It was small but packed with ingredients! The sweet tempura sauce was generously poured over it. It was a bit too much sauce, so the crispiness of the tempura was lost, but it was still delicious. The pumpkin was sweet and tasty. The mini Tekka Donburi was served with white rice instead of vinegared rice. I would have preferred vinegared rice. The tuna was a bit lukewarm probably due to being served on warm rice. This was a bit disappointing. The mini udon had firm noodles with a good texture. It seemed to be homemade noodles. It was like frozen Sanuki udon but a bit firmer. The noodles were good, but the broth was just average. It wasn't bad, but it reminded me of the cheap udon you get at a train station stand. They said the broth was made without any additives, but I couldn't really tell. The Zaru Udon was served ice-cold with a very firm texture. It was too cold for my liking. Maybe it's more refreshing after a bath, but it might be too cold for someone with sensitive teeth. Among the dishes I tried that day, the tempura bowl was the most delicious. The prices are reasonable, so I think they are doing their best. Looking at the menu on the table, I noticed they also had dishes like tempura bowl made with vegetables from Jinendani Market, which seemed interesting. They also had curry with lots of vegetables that caught my eye. I wonder if the chef's name mentioned on the menu, Chef Furuta, is the one serving the food inside the counter? It made me feel a bit closer to the food. There were a few other dishes on the menu that I'd like to try, so I would like to visit Chikara no Yu again when I have the chance. Thank you for the meal.
