I was checking the reviews on Milevi, and among them, Fujimo's review mentioned that this chirimen had a soft texture and the sansho pepper was mild, so even for those who don't like sansho pepper like my family, it might be good. After finishing our visit to Kiyomizu-dera and walking around, I saw a sign and told my husband that I wanted to stop by the shop. The shop was small and quietly operating, but it had a dignified atmosphere. In the back on the left, there was a showcase with various items displayed. Upon closer inspection, I found a notice saying "For those who don't like sansho pepper, we also offer a small amount without sansho pepper." When I asked, "Do you still have it?" they said, "We can prepare it for you," so I decided to get a large pack of chirimen without sansho pepper for home use (1080 yen). In addition, I also received 2 bags of chirimen with sansho pepper (648 yen) as souvenirs. As the reviewer mentioned, compared to chirimen from other shops, this chirimen was cooked with more moisture and was plump. The aroma and flavor of the soy sauce broth were gentle and paired well with white rice. It blended easily with freshly cooked rice and was delicious even when made into onigiri. The recipients of the souvenirs also found it very easy to eat and said it went well with rice. Ease of reservation - Likelihood of revisiting: ★★★☆☆ Thank you for the delicious meal!

I stumbled upon "Chirimen" while walking through the back alleys on my way back from Gion Sakai, after Mori Waki-san's store closed down. It had a hidden gem-like feel to it, and I followed the arrow to find the shop. It was quietly operating in the back alley, with a small interior and a counter-style sales setup. They only sell chirimen here, and the price varies based on the size. I bought the standard souvenir size (1000 yen) and the packaging with a black base was cute. When I tried it at home, it was soft and not spicy at all. Unlike the stronger texture of "Harema" and "Yayoi" that I've had before, this one had a soft texture and a surprisingly mellow flavor. The sansho pepper was also soft and for some reason, gentle. It might be a new discovery. This is something even children can enjoy without any worries.

I received a gift from a friend who took a different route to the Gion Festival - it was yuzun peppered dried small fish! I immediately sprinkled it over rice and tried it٩(ˊᗜˋ*)و♪ Wow! There's plenty of small dried fish with a generous amount of yuzu pepper - the popping sensation is amazing O[-ω-]O♪♪ This unique flavor is for adults, my kids might not like it ( ̄ω ̄;)エートォ... I enjoyed it with a generous amount sprinkled on top! Thank you for the meal (*^_^*)

When I went to Kiyomizu Temple, I finally opened the mountain pepper shredded dried fish that I bought. By the way, the classification criteria for "Delicatessen" for mountain pepper shredded dried fish and "Other" for croquettes are unclear. Leaving that aside, when you go to Kiyomizu, I think many people buy mountain pepper shredded dried fish or shichimi pepper to take home, but this time I bought it at a stall on Sannenzaka. It may not be that difficult to make mountain pepper shredded dried fish yourself, but this time it was just right in terms of saltiness, amount of mountain pepper, and firmness of the shredded fish, and it was so delicious that I couldn't help but eat more rice. If I get greedy, I might finish after eating 5 or 6 bowls of rice. And I would eat it even without rice. Next time I go to Kyoto, I'll probably end up buying it again...

I gathered only unopened items for this purchase, and unfortunately, none of them were able to surpass my favorites like Miyamaso, Murasenndo, and Shimogamo Charyo. However, it is interesting to compare and taste the differences between each brand. Our product is more orthodox in terms of taste, size of the small dried fish, and flavor of the sansho pepper. The slight intensity of the flavor due to mass production was noted. While it is suitable for everyday use, as someone who is not from Kyoto and only enjoys it occasionally, I may hesitate to purchase it repeatedly. August 16, 2013

In early January, in the evening, I visited a famous store known for its Yamasan chili thread, which also has outlets in department stores nationwide. I purchased the chili thread at the Ninen-zaka sales store located at the top of Ninen-zaka in Higashiyama. They also had other products such as value packs, Yamasan tea pickles, and bonito and lotus root. The main store on Shindo Street offers a wider variety of products including Maiko shiitake mushrooms, salted kelp, products without actual Yamasan seeds for children, and gift boxes perfect for gifting. The Yamasan chili thread, priced at 630 yen for 45g, is a carefully handcrafted product made with selected fresh small dried fish and Yamasan pepper using traditional methods. It has a mild Yamasan aroma and flavor, with a gentle umami taste typical of Kyoto. It pairs well with white rice and is perfect for ochazuke. The Ninen-zaka sales store is conveniently located at the top of Ninen-zaka, making it ideal for tourists in the area. The staff is polite and helpful in explaining the products. The main store near Gion-Shijo Station is easily accessible.

It's the season of autumn leaves, so I walked to Kiyomizu Temple and on the way back, I passed by Ninen-zaka. Along the way, I found a sign that said "Chirimen Sansho" and tried samples from every place offering them. Turns out, I prefer chirimen sansho over flowers and autumn leaves. However, most of the samples were either too small and spicy or lacked a good balance. But the chirimen sansho from this place had the best balance that day. They were selling them at a stall, and the slightly intimidating old man there was calling out to passersby, saying, "These are great souvenirs." He even mentioned that Nakatani Miki and the Kanou sisters endorsed them on TV. Despite feeling a bit awkward, I ended up buying some. The chirimen sansho had just the right amount of spiciness and a slightly mellow soy sauce flavor, which complemented my current favorite dish of clay pot rice perfectly.

I love this dried sansho pepper and always buy it when I go to Kyoto. They sell it on a hill on the way to Kiyomizu, and I even went to the shop once to buy it. I was surprised to find out that the shop is not registered for reviews, even though I thought it was a famous shop. My mother buys 5-6 boxes as souvenirs, as she loves it too. I like this dried sansho pepper because it is light and not too salty, with plenty of sansho pepper seeds that give it a nice kick. I only bought one box for 1000 yen this time, and my family finished it in about 3 days because we all love it. It's not heavy, so I should have bought more. I always wonder when registering a shop, should dried sansho pepper shops or pickle shops be categorized as "delicatessen"? I just checked again, and it seems like they are listed for online ordering. It's popular after all!

I received this as a gift from a friend and it was so delicious that I decided to order it. With this and some warm rice, I can satisfy my hunger when I need a snack. I would recommend it to anyone, so it would make a great gift or souvenir for someone.

I received a souvenir of dried bonito with sansho pepper from Kyoto. It comes in a stylish washi paper bag, which makes me happy. The taste is not too sweet or salty, and it is more subtly flavored compared to other dried bonito with sansho pepper. The scent of sansho pepper is also very faint. Even when chewing on the dried bonito, it doesn't numb the tongue. It has a gentle and delicious taste. As someone who prefers light flavors, I often find myself thinking that typical dried bonito with sansho pepper in advertisements are "too much", but this one is just right even when served generously as shown in the photo. It is recommended for those on a low-salt diet or families with children as a souvenir.

There is a shop called "Sansho Chirimen Specialty Store" on Gion Dangitsudori, where you can find a variety of options such as "Sansho Chirimen" and "Sansho Neri". I chose the "Sansho Chirimen" (in a bag) and "Sansho Neri" (in a box) for a good deal, paid with a cashless payment, received a free paper bag, and headed back to the Kamogawa River. I enjoyed the Sansho Chirimen with some cold tofu and cabbage pickles from a nearby supermarket. The Sansho had just the right amount of spiciness, and the Sansho Neri did not disappoint.

I visited during my New Year's shrine visit. It was my first time purchasing this silk thread sansho, but it was a delicious silk thread sansho with a good balance of sansho and silk thread. I will continue to buy this silk thread sansho from now on! Thank you for the meal.

When you come to Kyoto, you can find Chirimen Sansho being sold everywhere, so it's not really rare. However, when I glanced at it, I felt like I was being called out with a "wait a moment" so I stopped by. They call it "Sansho Chirimen 648 yen" here, with Sansho wrapped around. The reason for this is because you can taste it. Among all the ones I've eaten so far, this one has by far the strongest Sansho flavor, which I really like. It's very delicious. I might come back for more. Thank you for the meal.

The shop I visited had a rating of 3.26. There are many shops in Kyoto that sell dried sansho pepper. Recently, I tried some that were delicious to eat as they were, perfect for snacking with sake. Izumiya's version has a strong soy sauce flavor with a prominent scent of sansho pepper. The taste is rich but not spicy. It's not just a snack for sake, but also goes really well with a bowl of rice. It felt like enjoying the traditional rich flavor of dried sansho pepper after a long time.

The purchase of the Sansho pickles was very satisfying. The saltiness level is just right and the numbing sensation is excellent. You can also sample before buying.

At Kyoto Station, I was wandering around until my shinkansen departure time. I was debating between pickles or something sweet when I stumbled upon Ojakosan. There are so many different varieties from various shops. This time, I chose "Izumiya," which I haven't tried before. They seem to participate in department store events, but I had never seen them before. I decided to try it for breakfast. Ojakosan always makes our meals more enjoyable. This particular ojakosan is plump and nicely finished. It's not too sweet, which is our preference. It retains the aroma of sansho pepper, with a gentle and rounded spiciness. It is made using a blend of ingredients from Tokushima, Miyazaki, and Oita, using the same broth since its founding. It has just the right firmness and a smooth finish, very delicious. The main store seems to be located near Kennin-ji Temple, and they also offer salted kelp, sansho tea pickles, and other items, so I would like to visit them when I have the chance.
