On this day, we had a small celebration in Kyoto. We decided to try a place where you can enjoy dining on the floor at a table. We made a reservation over the phone a week before for 6 people on a Saturday evening during Obon. We arrived on time after strolling around Pontocho and Kamogawa riverside. Luckily, we were seated closest to the river. The food selection was based on set menus, with each person choosing one appetizer (from 2 options) and one main dish (from 7 options). Since the portions seemed small, we ordered a few extra dishes. Although we didn't have high expectations due to the price, all the dishes were decently delicious and quite filling. We enjoyed the atmosphere by the river, making the most of the 90-minute time limit. It was a perfect location near Shijo Bridge and Minami-za, offering a flawless 90-minute experience of Kyoto entertainment. Thank you for the meal.

The area with a view of the river charges an additional 600 yen for the seat fee when ordering a single item, and the time limit is 1 hour. If you order a mini set, the seat fee is included in the price at 3080 yen, and the time limit is 1.5 hours. The area with a view of the river may feel a bit pricey, but it's nice to enjoy drinking while looking at the Kamo River, so I recommend it! Pontocho has various shops where you can hop around and enjoy drinking, so I think it's nice to have a drink here for 1 hour and then move on to the next place. I would like to use it again!

I had some time before dinner, so I decided to stop by for a quick drink. This restaurant allows you to drink on the floor, which is pretty cool. It was packed even at 4 PM probably because it's Golden Week. There were a lot of foreigners too. I would like to visit this place again when I have more time.

In the past, I used to frequent a restaurant with a friend. When we visited after a long time, the very friendly older sister who was always there was not working today. However, it seems she is still there, which is good to know. It adds to the excitement of coming back. The menu offers a variety of common dishes and Kyoto specialties. Apart from us, there were mostly Western tourists. It seems to be a popular spot among travelers. It's a good restaurant, so you can enter with confidence. For Pontocho, it is very reasonably priced. We were able to relax and enjoy our time there.

【Taste】- There are various dishes that make you feel Kyoto, including healthy options like tempura and fried chicken. The tofu steak was the MVP this time. The alcohol was served quickly, which was good. 【Atmosphere】- Enjoying a drink while looking at the scenery of the Kamogawa River and watching people pass by creates the best mood. 【Cost performance】- Considering the prices in Pontocho, both the alcohol and food offer good value for money.

Sannou-cho, I had the impression that the shops along the river on the right were high-end, but on New Year's Eve, I found a reasonably priced izakaya. It's been a while since I came here and found a great place. The location is great with a counter, making it even better. I had some light snacks - green onions and octopus with hot mustard vinegar, boiled daikon radish with salted kelp, and saikyo-style grilled silver cod. Everything was delicious and went well with the drinks. The young staff working there, who seemed to be part-timers, make everything delicious. The place was already great for lunch, but the deliciousness of this restaurant stands out. I also watched them frying tempura in front of the counter, and they are really good at it. I will definitely come back here again.

Visited with family and my sister. The view by the Katsura River was beautiful. We enjoyed a few glasses of Kyoto's local sake. The appetizers included a variety of Kyoto pickles, octopus carpaccio, and yuba sashimi. Absolutely satisfied with everything. I want to go again. The view of the Katsura River was stunning. And the service was excellent too.

The location is amazing!! I happened to discover a place where you can enjoy a cool riverbed experience at a reasonable price!! Drinking alcohol with this view. What a happy moment!! The evening view of the Kamo River is too beautiful. Drinking sake on a terrace seat that enhances the sightseeing mood while listening to the sound of the river. The best!!

The restaurant offers a reasonable price for the meal, with a lot of dishes made with fresh wheat gluten and tofu, which is typical of Kyoto cuisine. The seating is a bit tight, with hard chairs and not very wide, making it difficult to raise your legs comfortably (especially for those with orthostatic hypotension). It's better to make a reservation, as the seats by the Kamo River are usually fully booked until 7 pm. The set menu includes a choice of 6 main dishes, with additional drinks. The portion sizes may seem small at first, but they are just right when enjoyed while chatting. The meal ends with a desire for a bit more rice. Overall, the appetizer platter, cold tofu, shrimp and wheat gluten salad, hearty soup, and the main dishes like octopus carpaccio and wheat gluten and long green pepper tempura were delicious. The cassis oolong drink was also recommended.

Cooling off on a summer bed - "Izakaya Pont" near Shijo Ohashi in Kyoto. Enjoyed a light meal and drinks on the riverside bed of the Kamo River. The atmosphere was great with the summer bed. Visited around 4:30 pm on July 6th, just after opening time. They open early around here. Entered the restaurant from Pontocho. The seating is mainly course style, but since we didn't want a heavy meal, they allowed us to order a la carte until 6 pm. Great service! Started with a draft beer and edamame as a snack. The riverside seating was not too hot, with a nice view of the Kamo River. Ordered various dishes which were served promptly. The aburaage tofu, Kyoto tofu, and Japanese-style salad were delicious. The large Man'nen Jigoku pepper was just right in spiciness. The yakitori and tebasaki salt-grilled chicken were cooked perfectly. Enjoyed a couple of beers and left satisfied in a short amount of time. The service was attentive, and I look forward to returning for a leisurely course meal next time. Thank you for the meal.

There were many menus written in front of the store, and it said there was a riverside seating area, so I decided to go in. It seems that if you want to use the riverside seating area, you have to order a course meal, so I chose the cheapest course for now. It seems you can also add a la carte dishes. The first dish was Wakame seaweed, Kujou green onions, and shrimp with vinegar miso, but the presentation was very sloppy. There was only a small amount of vinegar miso and it was difficult to eat with just one shrimp on top. There was an option to choose one dish, so I chose octopus ponzu and tempura with Manjyuu chili pepper. The octopus was average. The tempura was delicious. About five dishes came out, but I was disappointed because I wasn't satisfied. I'm sorry, but the service was also very unpleasant.

I came to Kyoto without researching anything and ended up in Pontocho with a companion who wanted to drink. We came to this restaurant because the atmosphere seemed nice. We were able to get in quickly because it was early in the evening. The restaurant was moderately crowded. It was a casual and unpretentious izakaya. They had some Kyoto-style dishes on the menu. The duck meat was very large and satisfying. The deep-fried fresh wheat gluten was also delicious. It's a casual izakaya where you can drink without any fuss. I would visit again if I have the chance. Thank you for the meal.

Today, I went to Pontocho for a casual drink. I will be dining at the izakaya "Kyoto Izakaya Ponto" in Kyoto's Shijo Pontocho. The restaurant is located just after crossing the Shijo Ohashi bridge into Pontocho. Even in the middle of winter, you can enjoy a Kyoto-like view through the window, with the Minami-za theater visible. They offer Kyoto-style dishes like fried Kyoto tofu and nama-fu dengaku at izakaya prices, which is nice considering Pontocho's higher price range. I would like to visit during the floor seating season next time.

Hello. It's Ru. There is a drinking street called Pontocho in Kyoto, which is geared towards tourists and has many expensive restaurants. My colleagues recommended a reasonably priced restaurant called "Kyoto Izakaya Ponto," so I decided to check it out. Here is what I ordered: - Chicken tempura for ¥680: The chicken breast was a bit tough but still tasty. - Mochi rice cakes in sweet sauce for ¥620: The unique texture of the mochi paired well with the sweet sauce. - Cabbage and radish salt salad for ¥560: A simple but delicious salad. - Pike conger eel and Fushimi red pepper tempura for ¥830: The pike conger eel was tender and delicious. I personally enjoyed it with salt, but I wish they had added more green chili peppers. - Chicken tail for ¥460: It was crispy but didn't quite match up to the yakitori restaurants I usually go to. It was more like a regular grilled chicken skewer. Overall, "Kyoto Izakaya Ponto" is a good option for those looking for a reasonably priced meal in Pontocho.

Located about a 2-minute walk from Kawaramachi Station on the Hankyu Kyoto Main Line or Gion Shijo Station on the Keihan Main Line, this traditional Japanese izakaya offers a variety of dishes at reasonable prices. Despite being in the bustling area of Pontocho, where many high-end establishments are located, this restaurant is welcoming to visitors looking for a casual dining experience. The menu includes dishes such as edamame as a starter, Kyoto-style fried tofu, tempura with Fushimi chili pepper and hamo, grilled chicken skewers, and tofu steak with miso sauce. One of the highlights of this restaurant is the open-air seating overlooking the Kamo River, providing a pleasant atmosphere for enjoying the food. Overall, this restaurant is recommended for groups looking for a relaxed dining experience in the heart of Kyoto.

This is a pub that serves local Kyoto dishes and traditional Kyoto cuisine. It is located near Pontocho but is very reasonably priced. Additionally, they have a riverside terrace where you can dine during the summer months. I visited on the last day of June and was able to experience dining on the terrace. While reservations are recommended, we were lucky to find a table available without one. The riverside terrace offers a set menu, with options for a mini-course focusing on appetizers or a full course including rice dishes. We opted for the "Kyoto Summer Terrace Mini Course (2680 yen)" which included: 1. Oboro tofu 2. Yuba sashimi 3. Three Kyoto-style appetizers: octopus with Kujonegi mustard miso, fried yuba dumplings, sesame tofu 4. Conger eel tempura with sweet vinegar sauce 5. Five assorted tempura items: nama-fu dengaku, nama-fu and Fushimi red pepper tempura, octopus and green onion ponzu, Fushimi red pepper and chicken tempura, and duck roast. The flavors were decent overall, but dining on the terrace enhanced the experience, making everything taste better, especially accompanied by a drink while feeling the breeze. This is a great way to enjoy a taste of Kyoto's traditions at an affordable price during the summer season.

In the summer tradition of Kyoto, we dined outdoors with a view of the Kamogawa River and Minamiza Theater. The highlight of the meal was the delicious dishes featuring ayu fish, a summer specialty in Kyoto. We opted for the course menu, which included a variety of dishes starting with appetizers and ending with a flavorful ayu tempura. The meal was elegant and delicious. The restaurant's convenient location near Pontocho made it even more enjoyable.

You can eat on the floor without a reservation at this casual restaurant. You can choose between a mini course or a regular course when dining on the floor. Even the mini course is sufficient if you're drinking while eating.
