At lunchtime, my family and I were near Toji Temple, so we decided to go there. We ordered the Nabeyaki Udon, which was very filling and had a sense of unity. The broth was not too sweet, but rather clear and refreshing. It might be a matter of personal preference. I also tried a bit of my son's Oyakodon, which had a strong and delicious flavor. Thank you for the meal. Next time, I would like to try the Toji Udon!

The restaurant is located just up from the east gate of Toji Temple, across from the Keihan Bus Toji Bus Stop. The name of the restaurant and the interior are both designed for tourists. They offer a variety of dishes, including Toji Udon (or Soba) with lots of toppings, but I ordered the Ankake Udon because I wanted something warm. The counter is covered with decorations so you can't see inside. While waiting, I could hear a scraping sound. Finally, my dish arrived. It was topped with fluffy Kyoto leeks and finely grated ginger. The sound I heard earlier must have been the sound of ginger being grated. The only topping was finely chopped fried tofu. The sauce was carefully made, and the fresh ginger and Kyoto leeks were delightful. However, the noodles were a bit too soft for my taste. Overall, the dish was decent, but considering the careful preparation and presentation, the flavor of the noodles and broth was a bit underwhelming.

Today, I went to a udon restaurant near Toji Temple in Kyoto. The restaurant, called Toji Udon, is located near the East Gate of Toji Temple. In addition to udon, soba, and rice bowl dishes, they also offer a selection of Japanese sake. Toji Temple is closely associated with Kobo Daishi (Kukai), and is known for hosting an antique market called "Koboichi" on the 21st of every month. The restaurant offers a special menu called the "Kobo-san Set," which includes udon and mixed rice with various toppings such as Kyoto's specialty yuba, shrimp tempura, fried tofu, meat, and fish cake. The udon noodles are slightly thin, served in a clear broth that complements the elegant presentation. I enjoyed the meal, and after finishing the udon and mini rice bowl set, I felt satisfied. I hope to receive the blessings of Kobo Daishi through this meal!

On November 17, 2016, after two years of waiting, I finally got to experience the "autumn leaves viewing" at Izumi Wakiji temple area. I bought a plate along the way! It was surprising to see people playing "smartphone games" even in such a sacred mountain area, with warning signs posted. It's much better to enjoy the breathtaking scenery rather than looking at your phone. When I tried to board the bus, I saw a strange "bear" symbol. What does that mean? I arrived at Toji temple and bought some "mattake kombu" from the closed "Ameku" shop yesterday. I prayed to the Great Master at Toji temple once again. After that, I checked out the clay dolls at the neighboring Fushimi Ningyo shop. I found a beckoning cat doll dressed like Fukusuke and asked the lady how much it was. It was more than 10,000 yen, way over my budget. Disappointed, I bought some "I-no-ko mochi" from Toji Mochi shop and enjoyed it immediately. Then, I went to Nishiki Market for New Year's shopping and souvenirs. But before that, we decided to have a light lunch. We settled for "Toji Udon" next to Toji Mochi shop! It was a quiet weekday, and there were fewer foreign tourists than usual, so we could relax and enjoy. The "Toji Udon" arrived first, and it was so luxurious with two prawns, yuba, aburaage, beef, kamaboko, and plenty of kujo negi! The "Iwashi Soba" arrived next. It was so simple with light-colored Kansai-style broth, soba, cooked iwashi, and chopped green onions. We all enjoyed it. The light broth, tender iwashi, and slightly sweet and savory flavor were delicious! If you visit Kyoto in the fall or winter, you must try this dish. It warms both the heart and stomach. Delicious! After the meal, all the fatigue from traveling disappeared. It was a wonderful memory. I will visit again! P.S. This is my 345th review. Still a long way to go!

It is an udon restaurant located a little north of the East Gate of Toji Temple. The restaurant is on the first floor of a two-story house, with dark-colored tiles and a large fluorescent sign on the top. The entrance has a white curtain with a logo design of the five-story pagoda of Toji Temple. There are many posters and a light blue vending machine outside, creating a lively atmosphere. Inside, the walls are white with dark brown wood accents. There are counter seats, tables, and a tatami area behind sliding doors for a nostalgic feel. I ordered the Kitsune Don, which came with miso soup. The egg was fluffy and the broth was slightly sweet, adding a nice flavor. The fried tofu was sweet and paired well with the broth-soaked egg. At the checkout, I found individually wrapped Rainbow Ramune, which I tried and found to be soft and peach-flavored.

After leaving the East Gate of Toji Temple, I found a sign for Toji Udon and decided to go in. I ordered the famous Toji Udon, which was full of ingredients like shrimp tempura, yuba, fried tofu, and meat. It looked very filling, but the clear broth made it light and refreshing. The tempura and meat weren't greasy at all. The udon noodles were soft, but delicious. While Kyoto has many restaurants to savor slowly, this udon shop is great for a quick meal when you're short on time.
