When having meetings in Kyoto, it always turns into a long day of conferences. We meet here about once every two months, and the place we always rely on is this restaurant. We first ordered for a New Year's party and it was delicious! Since then, we have been coming back here regularly because the quality is consistently high. This time, we ordered a bento box with eel, and it was surprisingly delicious! Eel in bento boxes can be hit or miss, sometimes too tough or too soft. But this bento box from Fueiyo completely shattered that notion. How can eel in a bento box be so thick and fluffy? I want to learn their cooking method. They also offer eel-only bento boxes, and I'm thinking of ordering that next time because I was so satisfied. The dashimaki tamago and simmered vegetables were also hits for me. The delivery service was also great, truly living up to the Kyoto reputation.

Meeting with a company in Kyoto for a New Year's kickoff meeting. Normally, after the meeting, it's common to say, "Let's go out for drinks!" However, this time the other party suggested having lunch together with bento boxes. I'm not very familiar with bento boxes, maybe occasionally ordering from the department store basement. Ordering a bento box was quite a new experience for me. We had reserved for 12 o'clock, but it was delivered around 11:50. When I opened the bento box, I thought, "Kyoto's bento boxes are so beautifully arranged!" It really gets you excited even before eating. It was packed full with shirasu rice, soboro rice, simmered vegetables, fish, and meat. It was so generous that I didn't feel like there was anything lacking, and I was completely satisfied. There was a flyer in the bento box, and when I looked it up, I found out that it's a long-established shop. Living in another prefecture, you don't always realize it, but the unique culture of bento boxes in Kyoto is wonderful.

I had this bento box for lunch during my business trip to Kyoto. It is from a restaurant that has been serving kaiseki cuisine and more in Kyoto for over 30 years. The bento box is visually appealing and very Kyoto-like. It includes simmered dishes, grilled dishes, fried dishes, and a variety of rice options such as white rice, mixed rice, seasoned minced meat rice, etc. The flavors are elegant and Kyoto-like, and overall it was a delicious bento box. Thank you for the meal!

I ordered a bento box from this place in the evening, even though their usual delivery time is until 5 PM. They were flexible and accommodated my request for a delivery close to 6 PM at Kyoto Station. I ordered the Temari Sushi, which had a very Kyoto-like atmosphere. The Tai (sea bream) sushi was delicious, with a nice flavor and the wood sorrel between the fish and rice added a great accent. Each side dish was carefully handmade, and you could taste the effort put into them. The simmered vegetables were especially tasty, with a rich broth flavor. The rolled omelette was also delicious. Overall, this bento box was really good and affordable at 1200 yen.

At Kawauchiya, they have returned the limited-time icon for birthday week. It is the Kawauchiya family crest "Tsugitsuru." Normally, I don't do day trips when I go to Tokyo. But this time, it was because there was a judging panel the next day. Well, to begin with, going to Tokyo was not part of Kawauchiya's work. In a quite exhausting state, I drove to the Kyoto branch. I had plenty of time in the morning as it was required to be there by 11:30. This is the 9th time I am serving as a judge for this panel. I try not to surprise the candidates during interviews. However, I do not hesitate to criticize those who have written clumsy essays. Before the panel meeting, the meal arrived. Here is the bento box. In the Osaka branch, we usually order from the same store, but in Kyoto, there are various good restaurants. Bento boxes are tricky. There are 12 branch managers from the Kinki region present. Each area has another 12 people. Various important people gather, so I have to be very careful. Kawauchiya... well, honestly, I don't have high expectations for bento boxes. So, my usual reaction is like, "Is this it?" Cold grilled fish is not tasty. The fat on the skin smells. So the smell transfers to the adjacent food, making it unpleasant. That's how Kawauchiya imagines it. But this bento box had a small amount of each dish packed neatly, and each item was not so sloppy. The grilled fish, although cold, was not bad. There are three branch managers in the Kinki area for the third term, but two of them took over from the previous manager's remaining term. So, serving the third term straight is only at Kawauchiya. Yet Kawauchiya is still the youngest branch manager in the Kinki area. The oldest but the youngest. So I feel like I'm being watched closely no matter what I do. Even how I eat the bento box is being observed. In fact, I heard a few years ago, "The branch manager of such and such place eats in a sloppy way." Gossip is scary. I have to be careful about many things. This industry is quite troublesome. Nevertheless, this bento box looked good and tasted delicious. I ate everything without leaving any. Thank you for the meal.

I had a gathering in Kyoto, so I searched for a bento box. There are many long-established bento shops in Kyoto, so I was surprised by how much I searched for one. In the process, I discovered Nijo Fuei, which has a connection to my favorite Gion Karin. I thought the taste would be great, so I decided to order from there. Since it's a bento box from a traditional Japanese restaurant, I expected it to be over 3000 yen, but I was pleasantly surprised to find many reasonably priced options. Today, I had a budget of 1500 yen, so it was just right. There were three types of rice and six side dishes, which reminded me of a traditional Japanese multi-course meal. The simmered dishes were consistently delicious, and overall, the bento box had a good balance of meat, fish, and vegetables. I appreciated the variety of rice types and the thoughtful arrangement that kept me interested until the last bite.

I had this delivered for a gathering. It was in a free shipping area. The Unagi rice twelve-course bento box costs 2400 yen. It's packed with rice and various side dishes in 12 compartments. Each dish was delicious even when cold, with a nice balance of flavors and a wide variety of options. It was really tasty! It didn't disappoint like some department store bento boxes. The actual bento had more packed in it than what you see on the official website, and it was full of volume. I would love to have it delivered for work or family gatherings. Thank you for the feast.

On 12/28, it was the last day of work for the bento lunch service at my company (we were doing a big office clean-up). On this day, the company provided us with bento lunches. Every year, a different employee is in charge of planning and arranging the lunches, and this year it was Fushimi Niijou. I didn't know him, so it was a pleasant surprise. Usually, our lunches are served in Marimekko paper napkins (33x33) which are just the right size, but Niijou's bento was so big that it almost overflowed! The bento was divided into 12 sections and looked beautiful, with dishes like rolled omelette, yuba, pickled vegetables, and mixed rice. After a morning of rearranging layouts and moving heavy objects during the office clean-up, this bento lunch was a treat for my tired, dusty body. (I wonder what kind of bento lunch I would choose if I were in charge of planning). As I enjoyed the meal, I thought about such things. Thank you for the delicious meal.
