In the current term, there are many foreign visitors at this place, which also has high-end ryokans. They offer teppanyaki as well as Kansai-style okonomiyaki. When I visited, it felt like about 80% of the customers were foreigners. You can enjoy your meal in a Japanese-style house, and Tripadvisor also gives it high ratings. I recommend trying the okonomiyaki, seafood teppanyaki, and butahira. The freshly cooked dishes are delicious, and the prices are reasonable.

At 17:00, I had gyoza at "Infantry" and found it a bit unsatisfying. But then I caught a whiff of the delicious smell of sauce being grilled. Since Kyoto is also famous for okonomiyaki, I decided to try it out. It was 17:20 when I walked in, and I got a seat at the counter right away. The customers on both sides of me and behind me were all foreign tourists. I ordered the mixed okonomiyaki. I was expecting the usual shape of okonomiyaki, but it turned out to be the Kyoto-style "betayaki." I devoured it in no time.

Near Gion, right by the Tsubone Bridge, there is a okonomiyaki restaurant. You take off your shoes and get a ticket for them, then sit at a tatami mat table. While okonomiyaki is good, I really love yakisoba! I ordered the mixed yakisoba with a fried egg on top. It arrived on a hot plate with a sweet sauce (there are also spicy and thick options). It had pork, shrimp, and squid mixed in, with bonito flakes, green onions, and pickled ginger on top. The fried egg looked delicious! The hot and chewy noodles were coated well with the sweet sauce and tasted great. I went at a less busy time, so I could enjoy it slowly without other customers around!

Actually, I visited this place as my second stop. It's located near Gion Tatsumi Shrine, with a great location overlooking the Shirakawa River where you can enjoy okonomiyaki. The teppanyaki was delicious, but the okonomiyaki was a bit different - it seemed to be less floury and had a stronger flavor.

Before the coronavirus, the customers were mostly foreigners for some reason. The taste of this type of restaurant is not that great, but this place in Kyoto has a good balance. Especially in the heart of Gion, along the river, it has the best atmosphere for enjoying okonomiyaki in Kyoto. That's probably why it was popular with foreigners. Strangely, there is a sign and uniform of former Baystars player Namiki at the entrance. The owner has a tough look.

I ordered the modern negiyaki (soba topping). They provided vegan mayonnaise and sauce, which made me happy. The attention to detail was much appreciated. In addition to the standard sauce, they also offered a soy sauce with Korean chili for a different flavor. Each seat in the tatami room and at the counter has a teppan grill, so you can enjoy piping hot okonomiyaki. The place has a casual atmosphere, but it feels welcoming, especially for foreign visitors. The staff (a lady and a young man) provided appropriate guidance and service, and the negiyaki was delicious. I heard that they use the dialect term "tantan" for "a lot" and it adds a nice touch. I felt very relaxed. They have many vegan options, so I would love to visit this place again. Thank you for the meal.

We went to lunch with everyone. The sweet and spicy mud sauce is addictive, right? We shared okonomiyaki, yakisoba, and negiyaki, which go really well with eggs, mentaiko, and cheese. We ate too much, but it was delicious. Our stomachs are full, thank you for the meal! 🍽️

I visited the okonomiyaki restaurant "Tanto" in Gion, Kyoto. It is a charming old-fashioned restaurant located in an area often used for pre-wedding photoshoots, with a view of the Tsubone Bridge from the window. The interior has tatami flooring with three table seats and around 6-7 counter seats. I ordered the tonpei, geso-yaki, pork and egg okonomiyaki, pork sauce yakisoba, and Mitsuya Cider. The okonomiyaki was thin but all the dishes were generous in portion. The food is cooked in the kitchen and then brought to your table. The surrounding environment and interior were atmospheric, and despite being in Gion, the prices were reasonable and the food was delicious. I was very satisfied.

I was guided to the dessert section just before the restaurant closed, and I got to try their summer limited edition handmade shaved ice. They had summer mandarin shaved ice for ¥500 (tax included) and a triple ice cream for ¥500 (tax included) with matcha, hojicha, and vanilla flavors.

Gion Tan-to in Gion Shijo✨ I visited this restaurant a few years ago and remembered that something was particularly delicious, so I decided to visit again to confirm. First, I ordered the popular menu item, Yuba Tamago. It was wrapped in plenty of yuba with flavorful dashi and fluffy egg, and it lived up to my expectations❗️😊 I also tried the soy sauce-based yam and leek okonomiyaki, which was delicious with the crispy Kujo leeks and the savory aroma of soy sauce. The fluffy yam and plenty of ingredients made it a satisfying dish✨ The okonomiyaki with tendon was moist with delicious cabbage and tendon, and the special thick sauce made it tasty even when spicy✨ This restaurant in the middle of Gion offers comforting okonomiyaki that makes me want to come back again. I look forward to trying it with beer next time~

Today, I visited Gion Shinbashi in heavy rain and strong winds, and tried okonomiyaki. I had always wanted to see the view from here to the Tatsumi Bridge, so I decided to come. I ordered okonomiyaki, negiyaki, pork kimchi, yakisoba, and ended up with a hearty lunch. We ordered quite a lot, along with the young staff. The portions were quite large. Among them, the okonomiyaki sauce was thick and delicious, the negiyaki was very tasty, and the pork kimchi was perfect with beer. I enjoyed a lunchtime drink like a father. The yakisoba was also easy to eat and delicious! I recommend going for lunch as it's a casual and enjoyable experience.

This is the essence of Gion! Okonomiyaki "Gion Tanto" The okonomiyaki craze has calmed down a bit recently, but sometimes I feel like going. On this day, I invited my friends and went to "Gion Tanto". It's located just across the Tatsumi Bridge in Gion. The atmosphere is outstanding. It's a place where people take pre-wedding photos. There's a long-established okonomiyaki restaurant in such a place. It's recommended for tourists too. It's nice and Gion-like. The interior of the store is covered with tatami mats. There are three 4-person tables and a counter that can seat about 7 people. The counter has a dug-out area at the foot, making it comfortable. I prefer to relax at the table. Although I was the first to arrive and the place was empty in the photo, all the tables were filled later on. It's better to make a reservation. You can see the Tatsumi Bridge from the window, creating a great atmosphere. It's elegant to drink from noon. I couldn't stop drinking from noon. The menu includes not only okonomiyaki and yakisoba but also a variety of teppanyaki dishes. I ended up eating and drinking too much from noon...! Kimchi Cheese Tonpei 900 yen Plenty of cheese and kimchi sandwiched in between. Crispy and melty. Seafood Hormone Mix 980 yen Squid, shrimp, scallops, and hormones in a sweet and spicy sauce. It's lively. Tatsumi Yaki 1250 yen This is a specialty dish. The name is probably taken from the Tatsumi Bridge. A thin okonomiyaki with tendons, squid, and yam. It's a characteristic to dip it in broth before eating. The taste is similar to Akashiyaki. The gentle broth matches the image of Gion. Tororo Yaki 1000 yen This is also an unconventional okonomiyaki. It's similar to monjayaki with plenty of grated yam. It's cooked with only one side browned, and it's eaten in a melty state. It's rich in broth. Tendon Salt Garlic 850 yen Stir-fried tendon meat with a mountain of garlic chips. I can't stop drinking. It's tough. Okonomiyaki Pork Modern 1280 yen The okonomiyaki is cooked in the style of "batter okonomiyaki". (Many people mistake it for Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki) The special thick sauce is quite spicy, so please try it as an accent. Yakisoba Seafood 1380 yen Yakisoba to finish off. Ate a lot. Drank a lot. It's fun to explore okonomiyaki restaurants in Kyoto. There is a charming shop in Gion where the sauce has a good smell from the vicinity and makes you hungry. I went there 30 minutes after opening, but it was already full and had to wait for about 15 minutes to be seated. There are a lot of foreigners here. The beef tendon yakisoba for 900 yen has a sweet flavor, with tender beef tendons and mixed pork, squid, and shrimp for 1280 yen. The ingredients are large, the thick noodles are deliciously coated with sauce. The grated yam for 500 yen is also good. I would like to try the okonomiyaki as well, but I have another place to go, so I'll end my meal here. Please try the yakisoba in Gion, Kyoto.

The mixed yakisoba was delicious, but the mixed okonomiyaki was like a Hiroshima-style version with the top and bottom reversed. It had a crepe-like appearance with toppings on top. It was the type that couldn't be cut with chopsticks. It was like a thin crust pizza. The restaurant was small with tight seating. Maybe worth a visit once.

I tried "Negiyaki" for the first time and it was delicious. The view of cherry blossoms from the window of the restaurant was beautiful. ♡

We had a fun and delicious meal. Okonomiyaki and yakisoba were delicious. And cherry blossom viewing season is the best time. It wasn't open during the inbound season, but now with COVID, it's open sometimes, or closed, but private reservations are possible.

The cherry blossoms in the borrowed landscape make the scenery at Gion Shirakawa's restaurant feel luxurious. The location is excellent, making it surprisingly affordable to enjoy Kyoto. The taste and service are both good, giving a sense of value. It should be fine to go alone during off-peak hours. It seems like reservations might be needed for a good seat during peak season, but I was lucky to get in without one.
