My husband and I went to this restaurant together. It was my first time visiting this place. It is located in a peaceful location a little away from the city center of Kameoka. We tried five dishes today. They were so delicious that I ended up overeating and feeling full!
- Seasonal grilled dish (Man-ganji pepper, soy sauce): I don't dislike vegetables, but I had never thought that peppers could be so delicious. The refreshing aroma of the pepper combined with the savory soy sauce flavor was amazing. It set a high expectation for the next dish.
- Salt yakisoba (Mixed, original sansho pepper flavored oil): I already liked salt yakisoba and often ordered it at okonomiyaki restaurants, but the yakisoba here was the best I've ever had. The difference lies in the unique flavor of the sansho pepper that spreads when you eat it, creating a wonderful sensation. This dish is a must-try for those who love sansho pepper.
- Okonomiyaki (Mixed, sauce): Thicker and fluffier than the usual okonomiyaki, this dish had a strong focus on the ingredients' flavors. Although it looked like a regular okonomiyaki with sauce on top, the taste of the ingredients was prominent, making the sauce almost unnecessary.
- Seasonal grilled dish (Trefoil, salt): Have you ever had a dish where trefoil is the star? The aroma of the trefoil spreads as you take a bite, and the subtle addition of lemon makes it very refreshing. It's so delicious that you can eat as much as you want.
- Salt yakisoba (Vegetables, original green onion flavored oil): Encouraged by the delicious sansho pepper flavored oil, I decided to try the green onion flavored oil as well. While the sansho pepper was outstanding, the green onion flavor was also impressive. The aroma of the green onions made the dish incredibly tasty, and I couldn't resist finishing it even though I was already full.
- Parking: There is ample parking available at the shop's storefront and the vacant lot across the street.
In summary, you can enjoy the taste and aroma of seasonal vegetables and wonder, "Have vegetables always been this delicious?" I learned that they source fresh Kyoto vegetables from the morning market near Kameoka. This time, the Man-ganji pepper was a new addition. According to my husband, the owner always recommends seasonal Kyoto vegetables and flavor combinations. They value aromas, so those who like condiments and aromatic vegetables will love it! I'm a big fan!
Although it's located in a peaceful area, I highly recommend this restaurant to city dwellers. I live in Osaka and have tried various flour-based dishes, but I never expected to find such a delicious flour-based restaurant in Kyoto. It's a revolution in okonomiyaki! I was touched by the owner's passion and love for ingredients. There are still many dishes I want to try, but I'm full today, so I'll have to come back another time.
[Update] I revisited in September 2011. When I asked the owner for the current recommendations, he suggested the seasonal grilled dish (Man-ganji pepper, miso), the seasonal grilled dish (Myoga, plum jam), and an early taste of autumn with the salt yakisoba with maitake mushrooms and sansho pepper flavored oil. The Man-ganji pepper seasonal grilled dish was made with miso this time to offer a different taste experience. I was happy that he remembered my previous order and made a new suggestion based on that. The recommended ingredients change with the seasons, so you can enjoy the restaurant anytime.
