<Introduction> I am looking for a lunch spot around Shimogamo with two staff members from my company in Kyoto. I used to live in the Shimogamo Izumigawa-cho area, so I was quite familiar with this area, but recently I heard that a soba restaurant opened where the animal hospital used to be, so I decided to check it out. The restaurant is new, bright inside, and has a stylish interior, giving off a vibe that targets female customers. The location is right next to Shimogamo Shrine, so the menu pricing seemed a bit on the higher side, but we decided to each order a different menu item with the two staff members. I, being a fan of yuba, ordered the yuba soba without hesitation, while the male staff member ordered the herring soba, and the female staff member ordered the summer vegetable-filled beauty soba. The naming of the dishes might make it a bit awkward for male customers to order, haha. Also, I decided to order the yuba soba with a set menu for 3000 yen to share among the three of us.
<Yuba Kake Soba (Cold)> In the end, we didn't end up sharing the soba, and I enjoyed the yuba kake soba on my own, which was quite delicious! I had tried yuba soba at a different restaurant before, but it didn't taste as good as this one. The yuba in the soba and soup at this restaurant matched really well, and I was able to enjoy it without any discomfort.
<Maguro Bushi Gohan> I chose the maguro bushi gohan as part of the set menu, and it had a simple taste but was very delicious. For someone like me with a sensitive stomach, the combination of yuba soba and this maguro bushi gohan might be ideal. If they could offer these two sets for 1000 yen, the restaurant might become quite popular.
<Overall> Being close to Shimogamo Shrine, it's a great location for a restaurant to stop by while sightseeing. The interior design and menu structure that cater to female customers are well thought out. I particularly enjoyed the yuba kake soba! I graduated from a school called Rakuhoku High School in this area, so I asked the staff if there were any employees who also graduated from Rakuhoku, and it turned out that one of the part-time staff had a junior from the same school, even in the same brass band club. It's just heartwarming to have a junior from the same high school, let alone from the same club. It's a bit of a tangent, but this restaurant made me want to try out more things.
